Thon Hotel Orion (Bergen Brygge)

3.5 out of 5.0

This is an older looking hotel that reminds me of a Motel 6 you would find in the Southern US. The rooms are basic and not particularly clean. The shower is that really annoying type that is in the middle of the bathroom and protected only by a curtain. The location is good right next to Old Bergen and near the Fish Market. The breakfast was also fantastic by Scandinavian standards - a full breakfast.

Parking at the hotel or right near by. Great location and super friendly staff to help you on your way!

A little oudated in the lobby and breakfast areas, but otherwise a perfectly located hotel close to many attractions including hiking trails, fish markets, restaurants, shopping, museums, and much more. Breakfast was very good. Staff was helpful and friendly. 5 minute walk from town square where we enjoyed street music.

The staff of this hotel provided fabulous service with a smile. Breakfast was a delicious assortment of traditional Norwegian and international fare. It was only a block away from the airport bus and a few blocks from the wonderful fish market and funicular. We should have brought ear plugs, thought, to mask the rock bands that played next door during Bergen Fest.

clean, small rooms, average breakfast...nothing particularly bad but nothing that would make this hotel outstanding. Is a decent value.

Great location, value and very comfort.able. Breakfast included was great. Room size was good. The hotel staff need to be more friendly and warm like the Thon Hotel Munch in Oslo.

Good value in an excellent location with friendly staff!

Smallish rooms and expensive but not really by Bergen standards. Pretty good location.

Great location on wharf right next to Hakon's Hall, and very near the Flybussen Airport bus stop. I had a single room on the 2nd floor - a double bed, ensuite, TV, desk, telephone and wardrobe. The room was clean and comfortable, but nothing special. I could hear noise from the two rooms on either side, but it was not excessive. The hotel offered free internet w/ two PCs on main floor, and a lovely sitting area near reception. Best part of the stay (in addition to location) was the wonderful breakfast buffet - hot and cold, wide variety, large dining area. A great way to start your sightseeing day.

Hotel is conveniently located at the old harbor. Picturesque neighborhood. Construction in the neighborhood caused evening noise. Super fantastic breakfast buffet and much more amenities than expected in a "budget" hotel. Convenient to all the attractions in Bergen.

Decent location. Average amenities. Breakfast above average.

The hotel was great once we found it. It is set back from the road and hard to see, especially in a rainstorm. A sign out by the street would have helped. Parking was a little hard to find. Wonderful breakfast with a great variety and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

hotel was in a very touristy area. It did not advertise itself as a budget hotel but its sign noted that it was. There was no soap or shampoo and the shower ran hot and cold. The temperature was poorly regulated. We paid about $185 per night which was vastly more than deserved.

This hotel is wonderfully located for walking all around Bergen. BUT...the room was so small we had to sidle by our suitcases to get to the small bathroom. I was shocked. It is an old hotel and well worn. The beds were very comfortable. The staff was great & friendly. Hotel in the perfect area. If you truly want BUDGET & location, this is the place. There are hotel choices nearby. I didn't realize what budget on this site meant and I will be much more attentive to that description. It was clean, just old and worn. The breakfast is ample, varied and fresh. Also, temperature control is to open your window.

Tolerable

Even though this is considered a discount hotel you get a lot for a discount price. The room was great and the view was just breathtaking! We were so very pleased with everything. Not only did we have a big refrigerator in the room but there was also a pant presser in the room. The location was a few minute walking distance to everything, yet off the beaten path so it was nice and quiet! The breakfast had a huge variety and was excellent. There was also free internet use. Thank you Thon staff for making our stay so delightful.

Thon Hotel Bergen Brygge is very well located in Bergen. It is within walking distance of all the major attractions of Bergen. The room was comfortable with nice cozy comforters on the beds. The big problem with the room was mold. The bathroom had a terrible smell of mold and triggered allergy symptoms. You could see mold on the walls of the bathroom. I asked to change rooms and was told I could the following day (3-day stay). But they never managed to find another room for us. They did send someone up to clean our bathroom more carefully. After that it smelled of both chemicals and mold. Staff seemed to view me as an inconvenience. I could not change hotels because everything was booked up.

Clean, well located hotel. Breakfast buffet was large with a nice variety of foods. Downside: About six steps up from the sidewalk and then four steps up from the reception area to lobby....no ramp...must drag luggage up by yourself. Near the old Bryggen section and fish market, lots of shops and restaurants.
