We stumbled into this bar after a night out in Dublin. There were people from all over the globe, live music, friendly bartenders. It was a great time! Free wifi as well! The locals were welcoming. No one gave us a hard time about dancing, the bathrooms have a code to go into them. It was a blast!
I had to stay here for a work related training...it's not fancy..it's not exotic..but it is clean..I had a 2 bedroom unit with full living room and kitchen..they advertise breakfast so I paid the extra 15 dollars per day for breakfast..if you are smart you will not do this..i received a knock at the door for breakfast..the guy brought me a loaf of bread from the store a couple boiled eggs..and a box of milk..needless to say i didn't eat much while there..the room itself was adequately cleaned and had great wifi..the hot water works which is always a plus..the hotel is in a residential area with the bus stopping right at the corner..not really much around the area so buy your items before check in
I stayed only for 1 night while in transit, but I would never, ever, come back there. I had bed bugs in my room and I ended up sleeping on a floor on towels and extra sheets. I arrive late and left early, so there was not much I could do. The owners is very kind and she tries hard to make this place work, but seriously, I travel a lot (60+ countries) and this place was pretty bad. So many other things that I could point out, but if the bed bugs will not get you convinced than I am not sure what else would...
In reading the reviews and seeing everyone say "do not stay here" I stayed here anyway. Before giving a negative review you need to take into consideration that this hotel is priced at $45 per night. I stayed here alone for 3 nights and I will admit that it is not the cleanest or nicest place but it is Belize City...One of the better things about this place is the location. It is in a quiet residential part of Belize City called West Landivar. I would suggest staying here (especially if you are traveling with friends) and spending money excursions like cave tubing, Myan ruins, jungle, zoo, etc. There is a market down the street that sells food/alcohol. The 11AM checkout is strictly enforced. My one complaint would be that at 10:55AM (while in the shower) the power in my room was shut off and I was told that if I wanted to stay 2 more hours, I would have to pay $50. Nancy, the manager, is very friendly but she means business. She will call you a cab at any time. Enjoy!
Nancy and Lydia were gracious to me when I arrived. They made sure I had amenities in my room, which was spacious. Good water pressure in the showers. Working mini fridge. Comfy beds. Fans to keep you cool at night. Awesome views from the roof deck. They helped me get to the store to get snacks and beverages. I would stay here again. Yes, the rooms are locked with padlocks, BUT I never felt my belongings were unsafe!! If you're looking for a fancy place this is not it, it's a place to rest your head.
Hell no. Dont do it. The pad locks on the outside of the doors should scare you off as soon as you arrive. There isn't actually a real shower in the rooms. The place is dumpy. Stay somewhere else. Anywhere.
Their cleaning woman Shakira stole cash from our clothes while she was cleaning. We had to get the police onvolved and everything. Nothing came from it and we lost $130.00 US. The manager gave me 50 Belizian dollars when I keft but that doesnt make up for ehat we lost or for the feeling of being volated.
We were shown two dirty rooms, one which did not have a window in the bedroom and dirty toothbrushes. All rooms are locked with padlocks which essentially you can unscrew with a padlock. Needless to say we did not sleep here.
When you are a seasoned traveller (especially a back packer) you learn to appreciate the small things...a hot meal (even out of a can), a shower (even if it is in a sink with a cup), a bed that you can sleep in without the precautionary sleeping bag. You can tolerate these things because usual at these places where the facilities are lacking the staff and fellow travellers are awesome....a warm welcome goes a very long way. Upon arriving at the hotel (despite having a reservation but I will get to that) everything was gated and locked up. I rang the bell several times and noted that inside the office a laptop was on so waited...and waited and waited. I rang the bell again to be met by a sullen teenager from behind the gate asking me what I wanted in an unpleasant tone. I was then met by the equally unpleasant manager who told me that the booking that I made through a very highly regarded and trusted third party website was not something she wanted to deal with (ie a contract), that she was going to charge me more for the room than I booked and paid the deposit for, and that 'If I didn't like it I could go elsewhere'. Being that my cab left and I was in the middle of nowhere I argued with her and she charged me as per the contract...what a welcome. Yes there is air and it is en suite and it is clean but there was no shower curtain, the sink was a spigot, there were cleaning items that I could imagine for the whole property stored in my bathroom. Again for the price the tv and aircon and overall cleanliness of the place is ok but to be treated that way upon arrival was really not good. So I went to the Best Western...see the other review.
We had 2-room suites that were clean. Air conditioning, good internet, fans, elevator, off street parking all at $45 Belizean per night per room. The owner was also kind enough to order Chinese delivery food for us that was delivered directly to our room (also at modest prices).
