Very nice hotel in a most beautiful location. The building is very well taken care of, the service excellent and the restaurant very good. The spa is huge and offer very good treatments. It is very nice they kept the original style of the palace just adding modern features.
It was disappointing that, when we visited, the garden / swimming pool was not available due to extensive building work. The work being carried out will add greatly to the hotel offering. However despite the management making very great efforts to minimise the impact if you are not a regular visitor the hotel has to be right when you choose to visit. Therefore the score has to be reduced by 1. Food, staff, ambience are all excellent.
Hotel itself is old as a facility but beautifully renovated. All staff are so professional and offer elegant service. We really enjoyed our stay in Biarritz. Spa was very well equipped with newest machines and such a expert trainer to give us good advice. B’fast buffet cost €50. So if you wants to enjoy your lunch, order room service for good croissant and a pot of coffee.
This hotel is beautiful and amazing. It is full of rich history and architectural beauty. The dining room is so classic, and the grounds are beautifully kept up. It is a gem. It seems as though many of the hotel rooms are continually kept/leased by wealthy people from around the world. It is an interesting glimpse into another world!
The hotel is a remarkable experience in many ways, with great history, location, decoration and service. Our biggest disappointment was the climate in the room - with an airconditioner that did not work. The staff said they would look into it, but it made no change. I Wonder if it is even working. The outside area is a Complete Construction area. I Guess it will be very Nice in the end - but right now it is very disturbing.
The hotel is impressive in so many ways. You can see how it was built for a queen. The location is just magnificent looking over the water and beach of Biarritz. Facilities are very good as well with a spa with an indoor pool. There is a a large outdoor pool for adults but also a small playground for the kids which is great and the beach is just outside the hotel gates. When eating breakfast in the beautiful room and looking out through the windows out into the Atlantic you can wonder if life gets any better. Then you go to your room and see how it can. I can imagine it's hard to renovate the hotel and keep it's identity but rooms are definitely showing signs of wear. Bathrooms definitely need an update and the decor needs some freshening with a somewhat damp smell. Service was overall fairly good though some of the staff were not the most friendly. I would stay again given all it's positive attributes but there is room for improvement.
From the moment passing through the gates you can feel this is no regular hotel. Feels like an old palace in every way. On the way to our room we saw many rooms with famous names on the door. I guess that’s where they used to stay when they came to town. Our room had very high ceilings and although the floors in the corridor are creaky, the doors are doubled so you don’t hear a squeak in your room. Nice touch. The breakfast is out of this world. It takes place in what looks like the old ballroom overlooking the ocean. The window is all the way around and there isn’t a bad seat on the house. Spent an afternoon in the indoor pool which was heated and very nice. Facial at the guerlain spa was once of the best of my life. My treatment room was in the corner with ocean views on both sides. Only wish we could have stayed for longer. It was so wonderful!!!
Elegant five star palace in the traditional style. Impeccable service, beautiful situation overlooking the ocean. There is a great spa open to guests. Outdoor pool area was being refurbished while we were there but will be open for summer 2018 Doesn’t come cheap but well worth it for a touch of luxury
I wanted to make a booking for the hotel and to dine in the L’imperatice restaurant. As I was in Biarritz, I decided to do this in person. However, there was a doorman at the front gate who refused to let me in. He said ‘l’hotel est complète’ (hotel is full). Clearly this door guard felt I didn’t merit staying in the hotel. I was dressed nicely, blazer and nice trousers. Hmmmm. I stay in 5* hotels around the world. I have NEVER been refused entry. I am a professional person. Just what was his problem? I know not, but this property seriously needs to review this door policy, as they have forever lost any possible business I could give them. And I will be sure to let as many as my friends and colleagues know of this snooty, outdated attitude. But I have to thank them in the end. We went to a 1* Michelin venuebelsewhere and enjoyed a thoroughly sublime repast, welcomed warmly and we are already planning on returning. Hotel du Palais: we won’t be seeing you!
Hotel du Palais was a real pleasure for a special celebration. The service was impeccable and all our wishes were attended to very discreetly both in the bar and the restaurant. Although expensive the ambience justified this and even small details attended to! The overall effect could only be praised!
