I was touring the whole of the French coast with my husband and Biarritz was definitely not to be missed. This hotel is such a landmark. With its impressive history as well. The room was very elegant, the pool was very pleasant. We did have an issue with long wait by the pool and we were given a refund on everything we ordered as soon as we pointed this out to the management. Very nice gesture. Dining in the main dining room was memorable, as we watched the sunset from our table. The meal was of exceptionally high quality and all the waiters were extremely helpful and very chatty. Overall, very nice experience. Pricey, especially if one chooses a room with a sea view, which we chose, but the view was amazing.
In October, 2017 we stayed at the Hotel du Palais. After lunch I went to swim. Because of the exceedingly rough surface next to the pool I wore little sandals from the spa. After missing an unmarked, small step I slipped on the sandals, fell and sprained my ankle and badly scraped knee. THE POINT IS NO ONE CHECKED IN ON ME AFTER RETURNING FROM THE HOSPITAL TO HAVE X-RAYS. When I returned home the manager finally wrote to me with an offer of a $50.00 upgrade! I responded and requested a reasonable response to my accident. She never responded. This place is all show and no depth. Sorry to report this lack of professional management.
Coffee break only. We went in just to get a coffee if we could. We sat on the terrace looking out to sea and took our morning coffee. Nothing was too much trouble coffee and chocolates were excellent. Lovely surroundings a different age. Everyone should do it once, and again and again. We will go again. L&J
A truly grand hotel with one of the best Atlantic Ocean fronting pools that exists. It’s a beautiful old property that, despite clearly needing an update, is a wonderful experience in a great part of France. The hotel is owned by the municipality and the staff comes off as civil service—fine, but not five star. On balance, still a great property—a true grand dame—and still a great current stay. But please, Town of Biarritz, get a professional top management company to come in.
This hotel is very old world, big spacious suites and hallways on the Atlantic Ocean. We had a beautiful suite (#210) but there is no question the hotel needs a refresh. It is very charming despite this. The pool is one of the great pools on the ocean.
We checked in very late - 11pm. We are a couple in our 50's. The room assigned to us was an older not yet renovated room. We saw a cockaroach climbing up the wall by luck the portee was in the room and he removed it. Naturally we refused to stay in that room and asked for another room. We were informed the hotel was totally booked. After some "argumental" conversation we were offered amroonmin a hihger category meaning it was a higher priced room which they didnt want to give us despite our horrific experience. They should have offered an alternative to us immediateky without upsetting us even further no matter how much more expensive the upgrade was.
Thank you to the the staff of this great hotel. Everything was perfect. Awesome breakfast. The service of the waiters, reception and conscience were amazing. I highly recommend this hotel. Very French excellence. Great location in biarritz
This is a one of those Grand Dame of a hotel with an outstanding location on a hill with an amazing view of the Atlantic, a beautiful swimming pool, and stunning restaurants. Service was delightful and the food excellent. It costs a fortune but is like something from another era.
Disappointed. The building states the finest 5 star quality but the service and amenities are 3 star. Room is incredibly small and awkward. Toilet is in a separate tiny closet behind the main door. Bath in a separate tiny room. I can touch the ceiling without effort. My previous visit to this hotel yielded a vastly superior room. Window is a single "port hole" in the roof looking to parking area. Fifth floor. Likely one time storage converted to guest rooms. No turn down service. No water bottle in the room. No fruit in room. No chocolates. Guests pay additional €35 for use of pool. Breakfast was surprisingly limited and average. No fried eggs or omelette . The hotel seems to make the false claim the actual building had a direct tie to Napoleon 3rd. Not correct per existing structure. I made two protests to reception who dismissed my concerns. Upside: beautiful building, common areas and reataurant. Very elegant and refined. Glorious views of the coast. Staff are smartly dressed.
A beautiful hotel with lovely furniture and finishes. The pools (both inside and out) were a treat and the views were fantastic. The location of the hotel is very central with easy access to the beach.
