Rooms are clean and toilet as well. The location is awesome, Gracia is really nice place to live. There is no elevator and you need to go up 3 floors in narrow stairs. Totally worth it for the price!!
57 steps up and down to your room, noisy from above through the night and on our level with people coming and going. Strange set up regarding the windows in the rooms. Not all negative the rooms were cleaned daily and the place is in a really good spot, the neighbourhood has lots going on.
My room had a window that looked directly at the staircase, you can imagine the noise of the people arriving at the pension at dawn; everything was also heard through its thin walls. The stairs themselves, deserve a separate chapter in the description of this hostel. There is no elevator, something expected and in accordance with the low price. The unexpected thing is that the hostel is on the third floor and the access stairs to it are narrow with irregular steps, not very ergonomic and that do not follow a fixed pattern. I visited Barcelona to participate in an athletics competition so it was not an extreme problem for me because my physical condition allows me it but visitors who are not in shape should think it over if they want to stay there, especially if they carry with them a lot of luggage. There was also no air conditioning, only a fan embedded in the wall near the ceiling that pushed the masses of hot air down, so it was not very useful. It is also noteworthy that it is forbidden to shower after 23:00, if I remember correctly. In short, a nightmare! Needless to say, I did not sleep well that couple of nights ithat I stayed house Norma.
If your budget is low and you want central this is the place. Don’t expect much else. The bathrooms are to share and have a sink in your room. Maybe just the right spot for bag packing trip while in the city. Gracia is a happening neighborhood.
I have been there 3 days for holidays. If you only need to sleep this is good place to stay. I have beeb in double room and share bathroom. The location is really good, it is in Gran de Gracia 5 minutes walking from underground station Fontana (l3 or green line), also you can go through Passeig de Gracia until Les Rambles, Rabal and Gotic. Around the pension you have some supermarkets and bar/restaurant. My advice is, do you only need sleep? If it's yes take it if it not don't. The real price for this pension could be around 50€ to my opinion.
There are a lot of stairs (4 floors to the reception) and you can feel the subway pass underneath. Not a place if you are claustrophobic as there are no windows in the room. Only one plug makes it difficult to charge a phone and a camera. Their website is in English and they have signs in English, but none speak English. When we arrived they said they had no room for us and it took them 20 minutes to sort it out before we put our stuff in the luggage room when we returned, the receptionist was not informed that it was already placed in our room and we were not sure where our luggage was.
Budget lodgings; no complaints Clean and comfortable; room was spartan, no frills High ceilings, white walls, no window, no personality You get what you pay for 64 steps up to room More characters as required to submit this review
Pension Norma was great. It is well positioned, right in the center of the city, in a street full of stores, supermarkets, restaurants and near transportation, either bus or subway. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. It's a great place to spend a night while visiting the extremely beautiful country.
I booked a single room for 3 nights (£88). If you are not to proud to use shared bathroom facilities and just need a crash pad then this is perfect, great value, clean and accessible 24/7. It's also away from the hustle and bustle of central BCN. Rooms are basic but you do get fresh towels and linen each day. What more do you want?
I did not expect more from one of the cheapest pensions in Barcelona. Picked it for its excellent location, at the heart of Gracia, not far from Casa Milá and Sagrada Familia, well connected with a nearby subway station and many buses that pass by. The pension in itself was very old, placed on the third floor with a narrow staircase and no lift. So it could be troublesome if you're travelling with heavy luggage. The receptionist that received us was all but lost, was extremely slow and definitely not amiable, did not locate our reservationat first, then mixed up our rooms, could not calculate properly the city tax so we had to do it for him, and was definitely not helpful at all. The rooms were what we expected, really small with scarce furniture and no A/C but with a small fan, but what we did not expect was the awful smell (like sewer smell). Overall, I would only recommend this pension if you're looking for the cheapest option near the centre of Barcelona.
