That hotel has the best location and very friendly and helpful stuff. All main attractions and place to eat in walking distance.City is beautiful and a lot to see.
This hotel is a sister of the 4 star hotel colon and shares many aspects including amenities and location. The room is large and comfy, the breakfast option was well priced and after 3 nights in the 4 star, we moved here to save $45/night. This was easy and worth it to us and we were very happy. We even had a small window (above the tv) which opened to a view of the ancient cathedral spires across the plaza. As a nice 3 star place, I advise to take the deal- plenty fine and you can spend the savings elsewhere.
The hotel is at the best location, 10 minutes walk to La Rambla, 10 minutes to Plaza catalunya where all tour buses stop, Aerobus (airport shuttle), hop on hop off, turistic bus, ... subway entrances are also in La Rambla. The room Is not very spacious, but it is good enough for a couple, probably total of 4x5 m bedroom plus the shower and bathtub room, hardwood floor, our room has a window that could see the tower of Gothic cathedral (or also called Barcelona Cathedral or Cathedral of Santa Eulalia), which is on the next block. The other window faces the street. Food (resto, bar, cafetaria) is everywhere, within the block, on the next block and so on. the hotel seems in the middle between La Rambla and hothic Cathedral. Small supermarkets are also everywhere for you to buy inexpensive bottled waters. La Rambla has Carrefour super market. The hotel is clean, all staff is nice. The only negative point is that there has been a block debelopment that is noisy in the early morning and the bell of the cathedral is also running every half hour in 24 hours all day and night. the room is not really soundproof, but it did not affect us. Check the windows when every time entering or leaving the room.
Stayed a couple of nights pre cruise and we enjoyed the hotel very much.Excellent location to walk to Old Town, the waterfront and Las Ramblas. Many good restaurants nearby. Front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful. Would most definitely stay here again.
Came in very early from cruise and Regencia Colon had no rooms so they upgraded us to their sister hotel across the street, which was a four star. The staff stored our luggage until the room was ready. Front desk took care of our needs and were very helpful. Rooms were clean and we would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again. Very well located to shops and las ramblas.
The hotel was in the heart of the old city so it was a close walk to everything, including the tour guide meeting places and tour bus drop of point. There are a lot of tourists in Barcelona and it can get loud, especially late at night and the hotels are old and poorly sound proofed. So even though this hotel was in the heart of the old city, it was on the edge of where the noise is so the hotel was relatively quite. The hotel and room were very clean and comfortable by it was very plain and outdated. Because it was outdated, I wouldn't stay there if I was trying to have a romantic stay but fine for all other visits. The staff was very friendly, spoke English and made a great recommendation on a tour bus and flamenco performance. Price was very good, especially for the location and cleanliness.
Very good location (could easily walk throughout old town Barcelona and not far from a subway stop) and good value for a medium priced property. Stayed one night prior to cruise.
The Regencia Colon is smaller than the Hotel Colon that is behind its big brother that fronts the plaza. It is also about half the cost with less amenities. The room was clean, the bed was firm, and the bathroom equipped with the usual amenities including shower gel/shampoo, soap & clean towels. The staff is helpful, but generally limited to the men working the front desk. The single elevator is small, which can be a tight fit with large luggage or more than 4 people. The hotel is small (50 rooms) & lacks a dedicated computer to print out boarding passes. The location is generally excellent being a stone's throw from the old cathedral and on the route of the Hop-On, Hop Off bus tours.
Great location just around the corner from the Cathedral and Las Ramblas. Very clean and nice. Friendly staff who are very helpful. I like this better than their big sister hotel across the street call the Hotel Colon. Would definitely book this hotel again.
Needed a one day stay in Barcelona after a side trip. Hotel was one block from cathedral and perfectly acceptable given we would be touristing most of the day and then heading to the airport. Staff were ok but if you needed help with your luggage or wanted them to make a restaurant reservation (they said the restaurant we mentioned wouldn't need one) you might want to go more upscale. Still happy with the room given the price.
Loved being in the Gothic area--so charming-- and able to walk anywhere. Airport bus, tour buses, and metro are a short walk to Plaza Catalunya. Good breakfast buffet and great staff. Room was very nice but a bit noisy -- the connecting doors between the rooms could use some sealing. Mattress was hard as a rock for my aging bones.
The room was exactly what you would want from a good 3 star hotel - certainly nice enough, and the bed was comfortable. While the decor certainly wasn't new, everything was fine. The wifi worked fine in my room, and the staff was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The location is fantastic...a stones throw away from the Barcelona Cathedral, so if you want to wander around the Gothic Quarter (as I did) then this is a great place to have as your base of operations. Some here have complained about the noise levels, but I feel this is understandable considering the location. The buildings in the Gothic Quarter are older, so they won't have the same degree of sound dampening as you would expect from modern construction, plus the streets are very narrow, everything is close together, and you're in a city that is known for being active late into the evening. If you're going to stay in the Gothic Quarter, I think some noise outside is to be expected. That said, I was on the 4th floor so it would have been nosier on a lower floor. Even still, I was there during La Mercè and I was still able to get a good night sleep every night. (And at earlier times, it was nice to have the window open and hear the activity and music going on outside.) The only noteworthy criticism I can offer is that the hot water did cut in/out on me sometimes, and I think it was probably due to the level of usage around me. That part wasn't so good. But all in all, I was pleased enough for the price that this one issue didn't bother me much. So little, in fact, that I certainly wouldn't mind staying there again if I return to Barcelona at some point.
Excellent hotel in the middle of the action; fairly priced. Even with prime location -- five minute walk from Las Ramblas -- room was nice and quiet. Very nice place to stay. I would stay here again.
I had a good stay at the Regencia Colon. Staff was supportive and had an answer when ever I needed it. I walked to most all of the major things to see plus finding more. I stayed for 9 nights and new the area well. The only thing I had a hard time with is the Cathedral bells as there are two within hearing distance. So every hour they ding...so I never went to bed before 12 as after 12 its 1, 2 & 3 dongs. This is an issue in most of BARCELONA as there are several Cathedrals needless to say.
The Hotel is in great location close to the Cathedral, clean, the room is comfortable, the stuff id friendly. We enjoyed the stay.
The staff were awesome and helped us with our rooms, the area, questions, and going out of their way to make us happy.
We were very happy with our experience at this hotel. The desk clerk was very helpful when we checked in, and gave us Room #261. This room has a huge outdoor patio with table & chairs. You can look down the street and see the Cathedral, and there is even an electric awning for rain or sun protection. It's in the Gothic area, an easy walk to lots of tourist sites.
This is definitely not your today's modern day hotel. Old hotel with old decor. No American voltage plugs. We were not able to plug in labtop, cell phones, camera/video camera recorder for re-charging, etc... No washer/dryer, gym, restaurant on site. They did offer laundry service and continental breakfast but for a steep/hefty price. The bed was rock hard. Only (2) cheap/flimsy pillows were provided. Very uncomfortable!!!! Staff unfriendly and unhelpful at times. We will never stay here again. But, with all that said, the location was fabulous. The only good thing about the hotel. Beware: when using the cab service in Barcelona, ask the cab driver in advance for the rate to your destination. We unfortunately did not do this and were taken advantage of. Also watch for pick pocketers/purse snatchers. Very big in Barcelona.
Excellent location, friendly staff, and big clean rooms!! We really enjoyed our stay!
The hotel location was perfect. It is in the heart of the Gothic quarter of Barcelona - literally around the corner from the famed Gothic Cathedral. It is also only a short walk from La Rambla and some great little restaurants. The rooms were pretty sizeable - we had two twins squeezed together and another twin in our room - but the bathroom was a little small (but hey, it worked for our one night stay while touring Barcelona and waiting to board the cruiseship). The staff spoke quite a bit of English and were very attentive. They collect your room key when you leave (the area around La Rambla is known for pickpockets and it's nice to have one less thing to worry about) and have someone at the desk 24hours so you can collect it. They also have a room safe you can set for you personally that is great - leave your passports in the room there. We were leaving on a cruise the next afternoon and our ship didn't leave until 5pm, but the check-out time is 12pm, and we wanted to see Barcelona, so we had to do something with our luggage. The hotel will hold it for you in a secure room. We left our luggage and explored the city. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this hotel for others.
