Not possible to love a hotel, but it is possible to love the people. I completely enjoyed my experience at the hotel. From beginning to end, my experience was superb. When they fell short, they recovered and excelled. I strongly recommend a visit. I would not say it is the Ritz, but it is an excellent option. I have to commend Maria at the front desk, and the entire concierge team that did everything from hail taxis for me and provide driving recommendations into France for me. I left several items of clothing in my hotel room and fortunately had to pass back through the city. Not only did they collect the items for me, which included a new Barca shirt, they laundered and folded the items. Ridiculous!!! In summary, if I ever go to Barcelona again, I know where I can feel safe and comfortable.

Although our stay at the Fairmont overall was a positive experience, we had a terrible issue with the doorbell on our room. It would ring at odd times during the night (several times at 2 or 3 am) and no one was at the door. When I complained, I received an apology with an explanation that it was an electrical issue, but that's it: no offer to have us switch rooms, or to reduce our room charge, or even a free drink at the bar. It was very frustrating as we came from the US and were all jet lagged and needed our sleep. I often struggled to fall back asleep when I was awoken by the bell, as it was kind of creepy. Our children were in a different room and had the same experience, which bothered me more as the oldest is 19. The customer service we received from Fairmont was really not what I expect of the brand, and I will now be hesitant to recommend it to anyone or to stay there again. Also, an irony is I tried to upload this feedback to their customer service site, and it would not let me.

Stayed there for a week and had nothing but problems. Biggest issue was AC. It never worked properly, turned off randomly, room never cooled down properly. They seem to have motion sensors and if you are not in room or any motion (ie sleeping) it turns off! Called maintenance and no help. Also our doorbell randomly rang so must have been a short in it. The location is awful bc it requires a 20 minute cab ride to get to any sites downtown. Room smelled musty and I feel like must have been mold in there. Both of us were sick when were returned home with respiratory infection. Had other people with us and experienced same problems with AC in their rooms. We stayed first 2 days at Hotel Des Arts by the water and soooo much better.

This IS NOT a typical Fairmont. My wife and I have stayed in the Fairmont in Manila (20+ times, NY, London and Germany. Real 5-star hotels. The Rey Juan Carlos is ok, maybe a high 3 / low 4 star, but no more. Outside of Barcelona you will get a fully fitted and modern IT suite, big rooms and staff that simply want to pamper you. Gorgeous hotels. Tonight our A/C went down; I reported it 4 times between 7.30pm and 10pm. Front desk kept promising the guy would come. He never did. To add insult to injury they put on some sort of music festival right outside our room, on the lawn, at full volume. The night manager alleged that signs had been placed around and in the elevators. My wife and a family friend agree with me. She was lying. There were no signs. I took ill on the flight over from the Philippines and had an emergency eye operation next day. I'm supposed to be resting 24/7. Middle of Summer in Spain, no aircon, and a music festival outside my room. at 10.30pm. Fat chance. No engineer ever turned up, and we were offered a new room at 10.30pm, when we could have moved at 8pm had the front desk been honest with us at the outset. I am currently almost blind and in pain, and could not face a move so late in the evening. I'm writing this because sleep is impossible right now. This hotel is over-priced and over-rated. It is NOT a genuine Fairmont. It is a shabby replica of a brilliant concept. I would advise readers to compare this hotel's web site with ANY other Fairmont on the planet. This is a Fairmont in name only. It's a rip-off and I regret booking it.

Impressive building, inside and out, the view down onto the lobby was stunning, especially at night. Good sized rooms and we had the best night sleep on the most comfortable beds. Great ameneties and the room was spotless each day. Fantastic pools and beautiful grounds. The only downside was the food - the bar in the lobby and terrace was okay/passable, but the breakfast was extremely average, which was dissappointing to say the least for such an establishment!

very disappointed from the hotel, As an Accor Gold member since 2007, its almost 12 years that staying in the group hotels, but this is not the service that was expected, This Fairmont is not have any link to the service and quality of the any star hotels, Noting at all, our experience is harmful,I send message to hotel 2days early that as We(me,wife,10years son) will arriving around 11am, please check that availability for our early check in ,without any response , Then we respect and arrived at 13:30 on Aug 4, Huge and long ques At the reception and they said that check in time is 14:30 which we respect and went for lunch and coming back at 15:30, the reception said still the room is not ready !!!.... It was first impression , After I lose my temper they manage and give us the Room 1036, OMG ... OMG... Room Air-condition has problem and room was so hot, I call the reception and they said they will send some one to repair, the maintenance guy show up and he said that the issue is the windows and he check and he left without doing anythings !!!! We went out for the Football match and back while was late and we went to sleep, Next day, Aug 05, After having breakfast at 10am I call again the maintenance and they send the guy even don’t talk one word of English in 5 Stars hotel,!!! He played with the sensors and after 40min while the room temperature went over 35 degree he said that is better if I leave the room and he will fix, again I went to reception and I ask them to manage to fixing the A/C and they said they will do for sure , we left the hotel and having lunch out side and after some shopping we come back to hotel around 20:10 and enter the room,... OMG..OMG…. OMG …Same as before and room was sooooooo HHHHOOOOTTTTT, almost 37, then I went to the lobby and lose my temper ,reception said again no need to worry as they will fix.... she informed by hotel team that the 1036 A/C is broken and could not be repair as far as they didn’t send any letter or telephone voice message to my room …!!!! it was the time that The lady said she need 5 to 10 min to change our room, .... Almost after 30min in bloody hell hot temperature room I called again to reception and she said she will manage to change our room !!!!! as far as all of our languages were open and with Kid stuffs was so hard to move to other room, any way at 21:30 we went to new room 1502 which is Suite but this suite is not the answer for destroying my family 2nights of vacation after 9months hard working days... honestly I can not forget how they demolition our vacation ,.... and this story happen while Mr.Gamarra as general manager while sending welcome POSTAL card, didn't show up or call for any apology

My husband and I spent the weekend at this hotel. Our favorite spot in the hotel were the pools, but the BEST quality of this hotel is the impeccable service. Specifically, our check-in process was with a young woman who was extremely warm and welcoming. She gave us recommendations on where we should go out in the evenings, and a spot for the best views of the city. However, the most impressive service we recieved was with the concierge. After a long adventure in the city, we were running late for our dinner reservation. We were greeted by the concierge and he inquired about our day. As soon as I said our dinner reservation was in 8 minutes, he whisked us over to his desk and let us know he would call the restaurant and reschedule for a later time. He did all of this unprompted, like he was anticipating our needs. He then assured us that a taxi would be available for when we departed. Needless to say, I was a little overwhelmed with how perfectly he handled our situation. An amazing hotel and vacation.

Don’t listen to the negative reviews. This hotel is top notch. It is modern, clean, with luxury accommodations. The check-in was fast, breakfast has hot foods any anything you could possibly want or need, try the latte macchiato. Staff was amazing and will assist you with anything you need. Eating at the hotel is a little pricey but not out of the ordinary for a luxury hotel. Walk to the train was easy and quick to get to Barcelona (20 mins) or any of the amazing beaches. You can also take a taxi to the city for about 15 euros. It’s outside the hustle and bustle of the city which was nice. I highly recommend this hotel.

My first experience of this hotel was them taking the payment twice. As a 5 star hotel, it’s hardly cheap and this maxed out my card. The hotel didn’t reply to me for around a week and when they did reply they denied having taken it. This was all dealt with by my bank rejecting the payment as opposed to the hotel being remotely helpful. Our next experience was arriving at gone midnight and being sent to our room on the 10th floor. Said room was full of the last guests rubbish, dirty towels and half made beds. We went back down and were told this was the only room available and sent to the bar for a free drink. At almost 1am, we didn’t want a free drink, we wanted to sleep. We were offered breakfast for free but the staff weren’t particularly apologetic. The rest of our stay was better. The rooms are lovely, the beds very comfortable and the pool areas stunning. The prices for drinks are extortionate so we didn’t have much. The breakfast was really nice and the service there great. However unfortunately we also experienced further poor service with next door’s room service being left outside the room for 3 days until we moved it ourselves - not acceptable for a 5 star hotel. Finally, when we asked reception how much a taxi would be to the airport, we were told to get the metro and not feed the greedy pigs. Very ironic for a hotel that chargers €8 for water.

This hotel has it all. Beautifully well maintained gardens, swimming pools for adults and children (incl great entertainment and hospitality), a hotel lobby where one could just spend hours to entertain the eyes. Room amenities are pure quality and spacious. Housekeeping is the best I have come across thus far.....worldwide!!! The grill restaurant is reasonably priced and with superb staff (Adrian, Rosi) and not to forget....excellent food!! The breakfast (Market style) is on the ground floor and with all one can wish for. Maybe they should consider serving fresh coffee instead of only Nespresso machine coffee. The location is just next to University area and Camp Nou (Barça home stadium). The only little negative is the Front Office; not quick, not very friendly (we have been helped by 5 different staff and the aforementioned applies to all of them ( sorry guys but it was just not good nor professional). Emma at the pool restaurant is super friendly and attentive. Although a loud American business group was in house (obnoxiousness as Americans can be) the staff was all very mindful of all the other in house guests. Long story short; our sincere compliments to the staff and management of Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos
