This is my first hotel review. I go on holiday with the mantra I going to have a good time whatever. I went to Mango Bay Hotel on the 26th November 2017 for 14 nights. I am writing now because a false picture is being described and I wanted the version I saw and experienced told. I agree that a lot of guests were repeat bookings which when you experience other Barbados hotels you wouldn't go back. This was my twelfth trip to Barbados, staying in 4* hotels mainly along the West coast. I booked and looked forward to this hotel on the recommendation of reviews on Tripadvisor. This is the worst one we have stayed in. We have in the past booked a standard room and upgraded on arrival. All superior rooms were taken and that is a lesson we have taken on board. Our room on the top floor was ready for refurbishment but was clean, very good shower and extremely comfy bed. That is the good bit. The noise on the night of arrival from the back street bars was unbearable Karaoke and went on until 3 am. We complained next morning and was told the Karaoke was only on Sunday nights. Every night the NOISE was unbearable and spoilt our holiday. No room to move to that was further from the noise. There is only one restaurant and you book lunch and dinner at breakfast. The staff were obliging and tried to accommodate the time and favourite table if possible. The food is very monotonous and simple changes would make a big difference. The salad was not on the evening menus. We made friends with a lovely couple from Thirsk and she made a plate of salad most lunch times and asked staff to save it for the evening meal. I had soup twice a day for the starter course and most desserts I had cheese and biscuits because the desserts were so poor. All hotels have small negative aspects but the food makes up a large part of satisfaction.

Having spent 7 days on Grenada we flew to Barbados on 12/2/18. It was my husbands birthday on the 11th so he had one celebration there and another ( which we didn't expect) on Barbados. After a 45 minute flight we were transferred to Mango bay by a delightful driver ( thank you Virgin) . On arrival @ the hotel we were greeted with a rum punch & a very welcome cold towel. We were then given a personal tour of the grounds by the ever smiling Cara, she then informed us that we had been upgraded. Our room was on the 3rd floor, but it is really the 2nd as the 1st is ground floor, our view was pool to he left & beach to the left. Minutes into our room a cake arrived for my husband with his name on. That evening we met the incomparable Pedro who led us to a table specially decorated for Phil, even the menu was dedicated to him. Then there was Valentines night, the restaurant was decked out with balloons and the chairs were all covered with white covers & red ribbons it looked stunning. On Friday 16th we went to the Holetown Festival the marching bands were fantastic. All the rest of the party arrived from Oistins on Saturday in preparation for Sues party on Thursday- but before that we had the fantastic Catamaran cruise on Tuesday- Jammin Cruise was our first but would definitely do it again. Thursday - Sues birthday ( our sons mother-in law). Mango bay stepped up again, breakfast table for 22 people. Thursday night off to Tides restaurant , again the table was all set out & we ate by the ocean, it was magical. Lastly all I can say is please Maxine Clarke there are far too many people to say thank you to for such a memorable holiday, perhaps you will convey this at your next Managers cocktail evening. We visited here in February 2018 for the first time. I have to say it is one of the best holidays we have ever had. The hotel has a great location and only 25 mins from the airport in a taxi. We stayed in a standard room which did suffer from some noise on a couple of nights but not enough to detract from our enjoyment. The food was far better than we expected with a decent choice of menu without resorting to buffet service every meal. The choice of drinks was excellent with the fantastic bar staff happy to make you anything you fancied with proper brand name drinks. The facilities on offer were also excellent with plenty of sun beds serving the beach lovers and pool lovers. But the thing that makes the hotel and Barbados is the staff and people. Everyone was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We were in the minority of guests who were first timers and we can now see why. We are already planning our return. Many thanks. Another amazing holiday at Mango Bay. 24 nights and we never tire of the place. Fantastic location, great food and people. We have made many friends here and still continue to do so. The staff are the backbone of the hotel and they are amazing - very friendly and always sad when we have to leave. We stay in a deluxe room on the top floor and the views are amazing. Nice and quiet away from 1at street which can get a little crazy at the weekends even in the rain. Mango Bay is a home from home for us with everything we need close by. Thank you to all the girls and Pedro for making each meal special and to all the bar staff and beach boys that make our stay a little bit more special. Can't wait till next year.

We have just returned from another visit to Mango Bay. Although in need of an update we found the welcome and friendliness of all the management and staff as good as always. The plus of a small hotel is that we were all individual guests not just a number. As they said to us this is your second home. The food was as good as always with as much choice as we needed and the quality as good as always. We had more rain than usual but this did not affect our enjoyment of our stay.

This hotel went beyond our expectations. Unbelievably friendly, attentive, happy and helpful staff. Excellent menus. White sand beach and pale blue sea.Cold towels and sorbet brought round the pool and beach. Drinks service by pool and beach. A visit from one of the managers every day by pool and restaurant to check if everything was okay.Free watersports even watersking. Entertainment every night. Been back three days and have already booked for next year

This was our fourth visit to Mango Bay Hotel. Many of the staff are the same all very friendly helpful and very welcoming. They make it a pleasure to return. The lovely new manager comes to talk to you regularly and make sure everything is ok as do the other staff We were in room 406 at the back of the hotel which can be a bit noisy at the weekend as you can hear music from the nearby bars but ear plugs solved the problem. We were prepared as we had stayed in this room before. So we both had good nights sleep every night. The food as usual was very good. The sea was unusually rough for a few days so we swam in the pool instead. But warnings were clear not to swim with red and then yellow flags flying as appropriate. Thank you everyone for another great holiday.

This was the second time we have visited Mango Bay. We upgraded to a sea view room as this is important to us. We were over the moon when we were upgraded to the penthouse which was delightful. We were delayed four hours so arrived late, we were told to get some rest and to sort out the paper work in the morning which was so helpful. In our room were had been given a bottle of bubbly and a plate of sandwiches and a lovely returners note. We truly felt like we were coming home. Fabulous start to our holiday. We returned to Mango Bay because of it's location to Hole town and it's community, we love using the buses. Our main reason for return are the staff, so friendly and each greeting you with a smile and a 'hello'. We have travelled to Barbados for the last 15yrs and many other places in the west Indies but always return back to Barbados (our second home) Mango Bay is a small hotel with only one restaurant, this is what we like, the food can be a bit up and down either mediocre or very good but always something nice to eat. Because it's a small hotel you get to see the same staff but you won't get the glitz and glamour of some of the bigger hotels. If you want an authentic Barbados experience you will really get it here. Beach is fantastic and we always got a sunbed as and when we needed one, beach/pool staff were always at hand to help. Mango is having an update soon and the only thing I would suggest is to extend or create another bar which would be good. Also some of the evening entertainment is a bit too sleepy for us so we often went out. We had the best ten day holiday and were sad to leave. A massive credit to management (Maxine) and long serving staff. We will definitely be back very soon. Thank you Mango Bay

I really want to give Mango Bay more than 3 stars but even that is challenging. We had high hopes with all the hypes and reviews, especially with them being a selected gift on a major television show .. but it just wasnt there. First, it is a 30-45 minute drive from the airport which one does not know until they arrive (BTW .. the airport is a DISASTER both coming and going. Very inefficient which requires much more time than expected - plan for it! Also, dont expect the people at the airport to be friendly, they are just an introduction as to what you will experience on the island ... lots of unfriendly people). Once we arrived, we did have a friendly and efficient check-in. Our standard room was nice and housekeeping was excellent. It is important to know that the standard rooms are over by the street which has LOUD music on Sunday nights . Many reviews mention this. Either be prepared (we used earplugs for that one night) or stay in better room. BTW ... free wifi in the rooms now and it works well!! Everything was OK until our first meal. Here, we found most of the staff as unfriendly. Most did not smile and were difficult to work with. We encountered issues in getting coffee & water (first cup good .. trying getting a second cup and if you get up to get it yourself, you are literally yelled at and they say they will bring it to you .. but you will have to ask again since they often forget even after they yelled at you). At breakfast, we came early, expecting to have a little something from continental breakfast we were told about. The staff became very upset that we showed up early (7:15-7:20a. Continental breakfast is supposed to start at 7a and full breakfast at 7:30a) just to get a coffee or juice (which was rarely made). Our group was divers and were picked up early so needed to start off early. Food was ok. Most of it was nothing special though there were a few exceptions. Desserts were always the same. Bonus is that you can have extra if you want. Hope you dont mind flies and birds because they are all over and often attacking your food. We have been all over the Caribbean and know this can be addressed but Mango Bay does not do anything to stop it. Though I am being very negative about the meals and staff, I do want to point out that it was not everyone. A big shout out to Randelle, Quenlle (sp?) and Natalie and all the bartenders. They were great the entire stay and the reason we are giving this resort a higher review. The week we went, it appeared we were the only Americans and the rest were Brits. Nothing wrong with that but they do have a different culture. Though we were not supposed to reserve beach chairs .. well, that does not happen. By 730a, most chairs along the beach and the pool are "reserved". And BTW, realize that any chair outside a room is THE ROOM's chair. I dont know if that is correct but the guests made sure that was the way it was. Again ... not terrible but there was so many things that could have been done better, more efficient, and made the trip more pleasant. I guess that based on the hype and the cost, our expectations were higher. The diving was good (hats off to High Tide Dive shop) but I highly doubt we will return to Mango Bay or Barbados.

this is a old hotel but the service and staff make up for it the food is good the staff are excellent and cater for your needs well . it could do with a make over to keep up with there excellent service and I would go back again saving up now LOL
