We spent a couple of days at the Coral Sands Resort before relocating to the Hilton. The location was terrific, it's within walking distance to great restaurants, there's a really lovely beach in front of the hotel, the rooms are much larger than average with a full kitchenette, large balcony and cute "beachy" (if somewhat dated) furnishings. The pool is small but adequate and well cared for. The mattresses and pillows are a little rough, you can tell it's been awhile since they've been replaced. The biggest issue we had during our stay was the really awful service. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, the lady staffing the front desk is somewhere between ambivalent and annoyed by the presence of guests-- (don't expect an enthusiastic greeting or warm smile). We ordered dinner at the bar because we were very hungry after travelling all day. We waited... and waited... and waited. After an hour and a half, the bartender received a phone call and told us that the fryer in the kitchen was broken- did we still want our food? Umm... 1) you're just now figuring this out?.. an hour and a half later? and 2) if the fryer is broken- then how can you cook the food, you're asking me if I still want? We were nice, said we were very hungry, if they could at least bring the burger, we could split it and then go elsewhere. After the bartender disappears for awhile she says the manager is re-cooking the meal (apparently the fryer was now fixed) and it would be on the house for our trouble (note that there were not really any other guests at the bar or in the dining area). Two hours later, they brought us some cold, really bad food. At checkout- it was not removed from the bill and the kitchen manager argued with us that they "would never comp food. period." I really could care less about the $40usd- but it was the principal of the matter. Not even an apology for the confusion or trouble. At 8am Sunday morning, housekeeping was vacuuming the room next door and front desk staff were talking and laughing loudly (the walls are pretty thin overall so expect to hear A LOT more than you might wish)... if you like to sleep in on vacation, be aware that the hotel isn't very considerate of that. So, I would overall say that if you're looking for a less expensive place and you don't care about hospitality, but more the setting and the room-- this is a good choice (minus the bad bed). The view and the balcony were pretty awesome. If you prefer that the staff actually care that you're happy with your experience-- go elsewhere. This is not it.
This was not our first trip to Barbados, but our first time at the Coral Sands. When we first walked in and saw the view of the pool and the ocean, we knew we made a good choice! We had a ground floor suite, which is a plus at this particular resort - you can walk right out the sliding patio door to the pool area or the beach. This was so handy, my husband and I went swimming twice a day for our entire stay. The ocean at the South Island is a bit more turbulent than the west coast, but here there is a reef which acts as a natural breakwater to make swimming easier if you don’t like big waves. The room is a good size, and has a well-appointed kitchen if you don’t want to eat out for every meal. There is lots of closet space and storage if you have a lot of stuff or are traveling as a family. The property is set back from the main road so it’s nice and quiet - my husband and I really appreciated that. The staff are very friendly and helpful as well. If there was any downside to our stay, it would be the sewer issues that are happening - Worthing is one the areas hit hardest. There is a smell of sewage when you walk out to the main road and there is standing water in spots. It’s not a fault of the hotel, but it’s unfortunate that the sewage issues are occurring so close. The room came with a kettle, so as a precaution we boiled our drinking water. Other than that, our stay was fantastic and we’ll definitely stay there again when we’re back in Barbados.
The Coral Sands is not an upscale resort. It is clean, well kept, on a beautiful beach with calm water for swimming, and walking distance to several restaurants and bars. I felt like we picked the perfect place to stay for our 2 week first time trip to Barbados.
I love this hotel but this trip the mosquitos were brutal even with bug spray. It seems to be because of the sewer issues. The hotel is wonderful they will spray the room for bugs. The ocean is so close and perfect we had alot of seaweed one day but it cleared right out. The water is fabulous. They need to fix the sewer and get rid of standing water. No relection on the hotel it is wonderful. The pool is very nice.
The apartments all face and are beside the pool and sea and are large with two double beds, fair sized kitchen area and large bathroom. Wonderful views over turquoise sea. Easy to walk to restaurants for food. Location couldn't be better .Each apartment has a veranda or balcony area. We were on the ground floor giving immediate access the the pool area. A slight shortage of sun loungers encouraging folk to nab them very early in the morning even when not using them despite a notice not to do this. Rather annoying. Rooms cleaned daily though one day sinks weren't cleaned and microwave had not been fully cleaned from a previous occupant. We hired a car for three days via reception and enjoyed travelling around the island . Reception staff need to be more aware though of choosing/suggesting a reliable company to hire from. We specifically asked for comprehensive insurance. The first person who came with a car immediately did not appear very professional. He kept assuring me that the insurance was comprehensive but was unable to prove it and eventually having lied to me repeatedly he had to agree that it was only third party insurance and so he left with the car which I did not want to hire. Reception did then, with me pointing out more professionally looking companies, arrange car hire from a more suitable company. This was done very graciously.We were pleased with what we eventually got though we had to wait an extra day for it. We know that the fault was basically with the first car hire 'company' not reception but reception to please be more mindful that no-one wants to hire from a charlatan. Barbados is a lovely island and we recommend a holiday here. We missed all the snow in the UK which was very gratifying!
We stayed here last year and were happy to come back again. This time we had room 104 which was so beautiful. Whoever chose the décor here was spot on. We thought Room 101 was so pretty last year, but this was even better. It looked as though it had been recently done. As in my previous review it was spotlessly clean in both the accommodation and the pool area. The reception staff were very accommodating and pleasant at all times. (unlike the Blue Orchid - where we had to book pre-cruise - see separate review). This time we stayed post cruise as we could not get a booking pre-cruise, Thank you for making the end of our holiday such a pleasant experience. I`m sure we will see you again!
There is not a whole lot I can add to the glowing reviews of other guests! I chose our accommodations here based on reviews in TripAdvisor and I was certainly not disappointed. The resort boasts an air of peace and tranquility, while situated mere steps away from lively restaurants and entertainment! We had a ground floor room, which I thought I might not like, but it was actually very convenient. Our patio was lovely, as us the outdoor bar pavilion and pool area. Everything on the premises is spotless! In talking to other guests, there is one common thread - almost everyone is a returning guest and the few that aren’t plan to be! I’d just like to say a special thank-you to Danielle at the bar. My hubby really enjoyed bantering with her. We’ll see you again soon, Coral Sands!
Was about to give this hotel 5 stars when suddenly there was a loud noise from a fan then the smoke came into our room through the vents. Horrible smell found out later that the ministry for Health are going around trying to smoke out the mosquitos with a mixture of diesel and an insecticide. When out later we witnessed clouds of smoke all along the road. The workers wear masks and protective clothing but everyone else is exposed to the smoke. It’s sticky and horrible, hard not to breathe in. I could still smell the smoke when we got back to our room. I heard the fans again next morning at 6am though the smoke was not as bad for us I could still smell it. The mosquitos have survived and are still biting as normal or maybe even more so as the smoke seems to irritate them rather than kill them! I think it has damaged the crickets though as they stopped making noise earlier than normal after the smoke. There is no warning when this smoking is to be carried out so you could be lucky and not experience it. It is not the hotels fault but another reason for people to stay away from the Worthing beach area which is sad as it is a beautiful beach.
We absolutely love this place. A friend recommended this place to us nine years ago and we love coming back here. Centrally located to the Best of the island. Walk 10 minutes to St Lawerence Gap 10 minutes to Rockley Beach both with two of the Best Restaurants, Or public transpertation within steps. Coral Sands has a beautiful White Sand Beach with Beautiful Turquoise Water. Rooms have a Kitchen if needed. The staff is fantastic. We have looked at other areas and this is where you definitely want to stay. Can't wait to come back. Can't say it enough LOVE this place.
We just left after a week stay. 1/22/18 - 1/29/18. I have no complaints and only raves. Room: Comfortable beds, furnished perfectly. Full kitchen which we found quite useful. Room service was very good. Kept the place immaculate. Beach: Area was very nice. Signed our chairs each morning and spent our mornings there and into the afternoon. Pool: Area was perfect. We spent every mid-late afternoon there. Water was warm and pool was maintained. The staff: All were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 406 and enjoyed this resort. We didn’t try the restaurant at the resort and opted to eat out and also buy groceries at the local supermarket and cook in our room. We will definitely come again to this resort.
