Short distance to downtown Banff, rooms and amenities are dated.

We stayed here for four nights. The apartment is roomy. The downstairs has a private bedroom with a queen size bed, a living room with a pull out sofa bed, a full bathroom, kitchen with microwave, a big refrigerator, stove with cooktops, cookware and utensils. Upstairs has a big loft style room with two queen beds and a half bath. It has central air and heat. The wifi worked quite well. The lobby staff was very friendly and helpful. we took advantage of the free bus passes to go to downtown Banff. The bus comes hourly during weekdays and twice per hour on weekends. It's very convenient. There's laundry facility. There are many washing machines and dryer. It costs $4 per load for washing and 25 cents per 5 minute for drying. I thought it's very reasonable especially when you convert that to US dollars. I took away one star due to very minimum housekeeping. The first time a cleaning lady came early in the morning and we just asked for some towels and asked her to remove the trash. The second time cleaning crew came when we were back to the apartment. We just asked them to clean the bathroom. The third day we asked them to do the cleaning while we were gone during the day but they did not. They came by when we were back in the apartment late afternoon. We skipped housekeeping and took out trashes ourselves. So no one ever made our beds during our four night stay. It's not a big problem considering all other pluses.

The hotel is nice, ~20 min walk from downtown Banff, which is ok. The room was very comfortable and underground parking was a nice bonus. My only complaint is that we asked for a crib, I specifically emailed a few days before arrival, saying I'll be arriving late (~3am) with a baby, and ask for the crib to be ready in the room so she can go straight to sleep. When I checked in, I asked: the crib is in the room right? and the person said yes, I can see you asked for it, I can see you sent an email, all is good... Of course, as I enter the room, there was no crib there... And this is a family resort... So had to keep the unhappy baby for 10 minutes before they went to find the crib, and then get me sheets for it etc... Which was a bit annoying. Otherwise it's a nice place, a bit closer to town would have been nice.

Nice accommodations with a fridge and microwave. Reasonable but not great value given we've stayed there on the weekend of July 1-4 and reserved a couple of days ahead. A little far from the center of town, but not a problem during the summer.

The hotel is dated by cozy and we enjoyed evenings around the blazing fireplace. Would have enjoyed a coffee shop or dining room however the trip down the hill to restaurants in Banff is short. On the other hand, the kids enjoyed the water slides and play zone immensely. Lots of wildlife nearby, including a buck elk grazing next to the lodge. Staff was very helpful and polite. All, including the kids, certainly felt welcome.

We love this place although it has good and bad points. The pros...the staff is friendly and triendly and tries their best to accomodate you. The playzone is a blast and the pool and waterslides are lots of fun. The cons: They don't clean the room daily nor do they make your bed...I mean, that's the fun of staying in a hotel (having your bed made for you). Also the place is kinda dingy, it doesn't have a new clean feel and the waterslide water is a bit cool. All in all those are minor things and we would stay there again.

the staff were very friendly and the room had a kitchen and a wood burning fireplace.the pool and sauna were good and the surroundings were attractive ,i will definitely stay there again.

We had a really fun time. It had two waterslides, two jacuzzis, kiddie pool and regular pool. The rooms were nice and had many amenities. The kitchens were fully equipped and you could cook your meals including barbecueing if you wanted to.

The Douglas Fir is very close to the downtown of Banff. You can walk or take the free bus that picks you up directly in front of the resort. My partner and I enjoyed a great day of skiing, a nice night out at a Greek restaurant, and a great couples massage. The room had a big balcony and an even bigger television!! It was quiet at night and it was overall a fantastic time!!

The staff was friendly and helpful. However, the units were dark, dreary and small. It was much more rustic than described. There were many steps with no rails. It was not worth $127 a night. I would not go there again. It was a very disappointing place to stay.

The room was clean, quiet and very accomodating for a family of four. The children loved the waterpark and it was great to have a little store on site. Very well maintained and the staff was awesome! Will recommend this resort and will be returning! We vacation in Banff at least once a year!

We felt the hotel was ideal. The location just outside of the crowded Banff town center was perfect. Your room key shown to the bus driver is good for free travel throughout the entire Banff area. The water slide is great for young and old alike. The desk clerk was very helpful with suggestions for hikes, gas, groceries and getting around.

The rooms are small but clean and have a wood burning fireplace in them with free firewood. We had a one bedroom. The hotel is about a 1/2 mile out of town, but we preferred that, since we didn't want to be in the hub of things. The nice thing is that you can catch the bus into town and it is free if you show your room key. The bus stop is right across the street. The hotel has an awesome tube slide & pool for kids, and also has a laundry and small grocery store & liquor store on site. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, basic place to stay where you can cook your meals in-house, I definately recommend the Douglas Fir Resort.
