Tune Hotels - Kota Bharu City Centre

I can't speak for any of the other 'Tunes', but this one in Kota Baru seems to miss the mark, trying hard to be an upmarket budget hotel, pitched at short-stay business guests who are passing through, and failing miserably. Firstly, this is one of the cheapest parts of Malaysia. So a budget hotel elsewhere in town is going to cost you around the 50 R point - $15 or so. This hotel comes in at about $20 - $33, depending on how you book it (online or walk-in). It's been modernised, with smart date-set key cards, new and glitzy rocker switches with blue LEDs showing on/off, a comfy bed with duvet, aircon in each room, and modernised bathrooms (with a power-point and hair dryer) There's a meeting room on the 2nd floor. The room I stayed in had both a big ceiling fan and aircon. All of which sounds good. But it fails miserably on some of the absolute basics. The two main ones are that there's no restaurant (thus no room service) and not even a coin-op hot/cold drinks machine anywhere - indeed, there's not even a phone in the rooms and the wake-up call is some kid thumping on the door at round-about the time you requested. It could be justifiably argued that today everyone had a smart phone/device, so a phone really isn't necessary - and there's free WiFi anyway. Which is the second point - the WiFi is nominally 2 Mbits max, and is in fact unusable. I ran several speed tests and before midnight it was so slow that images couldn't appear on my web browser. The fastest download speed (around 2 am) showed 25 KILOBITS (Kbs) per second - that's the old modem kind of speed from around the year 2000, before broadband became common. And before midnight it was so slow that the Ookla broadband speed test couldn't even register it - I'm guessing maybe THREE Kbs. Utterly ridiculous! Then there's a lot of very small points which by themselves are not much, but taken in with the rest of it paints a sad picture - if this hotel was a kid at school then the annual report would say - "Johnny Tune is always pleasant and tries his hardest but unfortunately is overshadowed by the rest of the class and seems unlikely to succeed." Little things - it's an Asian hotel in Asia, so the toilet seat is only about 20 inches off the ground and most Caucasians will be sitting there with their knees around their ears. The same with the bathroom sink - it was at about the level of my mid-thighs. There was a remote control for the ceiling fan, but not one for the TV. There is no fridge or mini-bar for those soft drinks etc that you have to go out to buy. The towels are dishcloth-sized, and there was only one of them. There is no wardrobe; just 4 hangers on a small rail. I had to hunt for a wall socket to use my phone charger, and there isn't one so I unplugged the TV and used that. Fortunately - by sheer accident - there just happens to be an excellent cafe (vegetarian but with extras) right across the highway overpass outside, plus food and drink from McDonalds and KFC in the shopping mall opposite. But even that simply cannot make up for zero WiFi. All the TV channels are in Malaysian, so that makes WiFi even more indispensable - and just this one aspect alone, no WiFi makes the whole hotel dead in the water before you get past the doors. (I ended up spending the evening in McDonald's because their WiFi is at least fast enough to actually send emails!) Sorry, Tune, I know you're a budget hotel, but until you spend just a few dollars more each month for a decent WiFi account, and a dozen of router-repeaters, you are appealing to nobody at all in 2018. And then get a flippin coffee machine in the lobby, too!

Not an enjoyable stay but it’s a business trip so I got really no choice. Staff could be friendlier. Bedsheet could be cleaner. Location is kinda strategic considered it’s just beside kb mall. There is good breakfast on the 1st floor. Not free though of course.

The hotel was alright. I have no complaints but nothing to brag either. On the plus side, it is considerably less expensive and is among the "luxurious" hotel nearby that area. It is just beside the mall in Kota Bharu, KB Mall and you can find a lot of things here. Fancy something to eat, just hop inside or dine like a local at the street shops. Staff was alright.

Stayed on a Pre flight room only basis - checked out by 4 am as I found the airport more restful than the hotel. Place is clean - but travellers arriving at all hours through the night meant I had no sleep whatsoever !

Taking in regard that the hotel is pretty cheap and that the room is clean with the KB mall just across the street makes it worth the money spend. Just stayed for the night before heading to the airport.

Every once a month will stay in KB Tune Hotel, it's all because of good location. Opposite where the KB Mall located and surrounding plenty of coffee shops and restaurant nearby. One lift not working since in month of March 2017. The toiletries downgraded from tube to packet of shampoo. Towel and bath mat are old, it's time for change. Bring your own water, cause they did not provide the complimentary mineral water. Because the hotel located at the roadside, sometimes middle of the night it is bit noisy of the vehicle. Positive side, the air-conditioner is cold enough and water heater work properly.

I spent RM150 per night to check in this hotel after a long drive from Kuala Lumpur. Schedule to attend business appointment next morning. I m very dissapointed instead of having good rest but I have a restless n sleepless night till next morning due to the super irritating endless noises of the highway beside this hotel. Not worth to spend money to check in a restless hotel, no peace of mind, I regret that never realize the highway beside it. And moreover, no drinking water provided. This is too much.

The hotel is located in the Town Kota Bharu and just after the KB Mall, which is the one off the shopping mall in Kelantan. Its just about 2 minutes walking distance. Overall it is okay for me. Nice place

The hotel located at central of KB. KB Mall just beside. Though newly opened Aeon Mall is more popular now. Easy access to other parts of town. Rain shower head a let down, rather hv shower head with flexible hose.

Stayed at Tune Hotel overnight. We have stayed here before about a year ago but the hotel has gone from okay to bad! Staff are not friendly. The room is dirty with stained walls, stained sheets, awful bathroom with mould, slimy floors, hair and a really bad odour. For the price, this hotel is a total rip off!
