Super 8 Baltimore Essex Area

It had been years since I last stayed at this Super 8 Hotel and it appears a lot has changed, I arrived rather early at 8:30 in the morning was told I couldn't check in until 3 pm, but if my room was ready earlier they would call, I went site seeing came back after 4 to be told that my room was still ready.

Honestly we aren't a picky family and we just wanted a place to lay our heads for the night nearby family while in town visiting. Room looked nicer than we expected for the $85 we paid but it was HOT in the room. I think the hotel could keep a few rooms cool for arriving guests. It took better than 3 hours for the room to cool off to even sleep with a sheet without sweating. The room finally cooled off in the middle of the night but it put a damper on everyone's mood. We considered changing room but figured it was the hotel's policy not to keep the air on for arriving customers. A policy I would definitely change if I was them as we probably won't stay there again in the summer months. The beds were comfortable enough and the free breakfast was adequate for us (raisin bran, juice, oatmeal, Danish, toast and waffle maker and decent coffee). Seemed not much extra laid out but the man at desk filled everything empty promptly for us. Like I said everything was fine for the $85 minus our room temperature which is a BIG deal for most people.

I would recommend noone to this hotel. Employee tried to enter room twice in the middle of the night. There was also a fight happening at the hotel. Bed was fine, but place was not very clean. Was not a pleasant experience.

The service was not good. He didn't say anything friendly for our welcome, he didn't give us some informations for breakfast or where our rooms are. There was a guest who screamed the whole morning long! No one did anything!

For what u pay..that's what u get. Room was spacious

The rooms are very clean and comfortable beyond the price of the rooms. At the price, you really shouldn't expect 5 stars and a red carpet leading from the lobby to the room.

This was the worst hotel experience of my adult life. I travel several times a year both regionally and across country for work and occasionally vacation, and almost always use this site to book my room. When I booked this room, I was not looking to pay a fortune, as it was only a one night stay, but I also didn't want the bottom of the barrel of hotels. In searching for a room I came across the Super 8 Hotel in Essex, MD. This was ideal, as my business trip was in North Baltimore (White Marsh), and it was a quick ride. When I got to the hotel, they were doing construction outside, and the parking lot in front of the building had piles of trash on the side. Ok, it's construction, I understand. When I walked inside, there were bare wires and pipes all throughout the first floor. The elevator was down. etc. I went to the front desk where I was assisted by a rude lade who seemingly had no idea what she was doing, yet she was training another lady. That experience left me thinking I might leave right then, but given that I was there and only staying one night I decided to stay. They told me I needed a parking pass, and they commenced to use a magic marker on a piece of white scrap paper that my kid could have made to make up a parking pass that said the name of the hotel and the date. Then they were having a hard time getting my information into the system, so they said when I came back down they would give me the info, and have me to sign. I went up to the room. It was supposed to be non-smoking, but smelled like a smoking room. The smoke detector was missing, with wires hanging out of the ceiling. The sprinkler head in the room was taped up. There was a curtain on both floors saying construction area, do not enter, but I could have walked right through the open curtain easily. I went back downstairs, taking pictures of the absolutely disgusting hotel, with wires and pipes all visible up and down the halls. I stopped at the front desk to sign my acknowledgment, and the clerk said 'what's wrong'. I could have given her an earful, but decided to just remind her that she needed to give me the check in info. She said the computer was acting up, so had me sign a blank piece of paper with no details, and then said, we will take care of the rest. The next morning I got up to check out, and the printer evidentially was down, so I was asked if they could email the receipt. There was no continental breakfast, no recliner in the room as was stated in the online ad, and now I couldn't even make sure that they billed me properly. The next morning (today) I printed the receipt from my email address at my office. The receipt showed (according to the clerk at the hotel that I called to make sure they didn't bill someone else's card) the booking sites American Express payment info and also the rate that the booking site paid the Super 8 Hotel. I told the clerk when I called the hotel that I have no problem with this booking site making a few bucks on the reservation, however, I can't imagine they want the clients knowing that information. Looking at the receipt, you would have thought that they just billed the wrong card. I have never had this kind of a problem before, and I hope I won't again. My suggestion would be that this booking site reconsider making this hotel an option for future customers booking on their site. By the way, I have pictures/video of the hotel.

Unfortunately my most important criteria for finding a hotel was price. Next time I will isten to the other reviews. This was supposed to be a non-smoking room, but there we're burn holes in the blanket. The bed cover had stains all over it which is a bad way to start. I don't think I've ever (tried to) sleep in a less comfortable bed. The hotel had wifi but it was extremely slow. All in all, I will avoid super 8 motels in the future.

I just needed a night to get away. This is a great place for that. The staff is great.

Stayed for one night while passing through. The area felt very unsafe. The first room we were given had ants crawling all over us. We requested a different room and the complied immediately. Friendly staff though. Doesn't make up for the "ghetto" area and old tiny rooms. Wouldn't stay again. Then again, what do you expect for $70 per night?

We communicated via instant message with one of your reservationists. The agent was very helpful and courteous, however, we wish she had shared more with us about the location of this property. The property was located in a very bad section of town. The main entrance of the hotel is behind a building, more or less in an alley. The night manager was very friendly and helpful during the checkin process. The towels in the bathroom were so thin that we thought that they were handtowels. The toilet was unflushed and when we flushed, it overflowed. We killed two birds with one stone and went down to the front desk for better towels and a plunger. The room was acceptable and the linens were clean. I guess we got what we paid for. Should have known that $67.00 a night was a little suspicious

Friendly staff, clean room. Free breakfast not worth waking up for - maybe for organge juice and coffee. Conveniently located by highways and 20 min. from Baltimore inner harbor a plus. No problem with our stay at all, will recommend for someone looking for this quality of stay.

THIS HOTEL WAS RIGHT BEHIND A LIQUOR STORE AND HAD A FEW DRUNKS HANGING OUT FRONT WHEN MY FAMILY ARRIVED. IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING MY FAMILY FROM THE CAR TO THE ROOM, I, UNFORTUNATELY DROPPED A BANK ENVELOPE THAT HAD MY TRAVEL/SPENDING MONEY IN IT(ABOUT $400.00)!!!! I ASKED A FEW PEOPLE WHO HAD ARRIVED AROUND THE TIME MY FAMILY ARRIVED AND, OF COURSE, NO ONE SAW ANYTHING!!! THE ROOM, ALTHOUGH A NON-SMOKING ROOM, WAS STUFFY AND THE VENTILATION DID NOT HELP MY TWO KIDS WHO HAD SEVERE ALLERGIES. THE PRICE WAS GOOD, BUT DID NOT REALLY FEEL SAFE! CHECKED OUT RIGHT AFTER BREAKFAST!

Easy check-in, friendly staff.

Overall the hotel room was as expected. It was pretty clean and the staff was friendly. The worst part of the stay was the room smell. A musty smell that was only made worst when the ac unit was turned on. That had its own smelly order. So we just kept the window open for fresh air.

my bed was very soft and i really slept good

Check out time was 11:00, the front desk called the room to tell us again. Then the clerk banged on the door to tell us check out was at 11:00, and if we were late in checking out--we would be charged additional money. In all my travels, I have never had this happen to me. Fortunately I checked out at 10:59. Finaly there was a seafood restaurant venting their kitchen odors into the parking lot--my car smelled like Maryland crabs.

Easy on & off Interstate. Good seafood restaurant directly in front of motel.

Thank you for staying with us. We really apologize for the inconvenience you had during your check in .There was a shortage of housekeeper and we were trying our best to make up that so, there was little delay. But we will take care of it and make sure it doesn't happen again. Hope to see you soon back again. Regards, Guest Relation Manager
