The best part of this hotel is their room's sizes and value for money. Breakfast is mediocre, but facilities are at par with regular 3 star hotels in Bali. However, value for money and room sizes that can fit family with children or 4 adults and rooftop plus living room and a working kitchen? Worth 4 stars for those alone.
We stayed at Umalas Hotel and Residence for three weeks and found it to be mostly a positive experience. The high points would be the excellent staff, all very friendly and willing to help out in any way they can. The low point would be it's a bit old and tired and it also has just about the worst Wi-Fi internet connection we have ever tried to use, slow, unsecure and it either drops out constantly or doesn't connect up at all, it's truly dreadful and if you want or need Wi-Fi in a hotel, well do not come here, just straight away look elsewhere, it's really not up to scratch. Arriving late one night the reception desk arranged a welcome drink for us while we filled in the paperwork, it's pretty standard stuff in Asia but still a nice touch. The rooms themselves, or a least our one bedroom room on the first floor was decidedly odd in layout and equipment. There is a small kitchenette in the living space, it has a microwave and fridge but there is nothing much in they way of cooking or eating utensils, the front desk staff will provide anything you ask for though, like plates, bowls, tea-towels etc. Also in the living space is a lounge and a TV and that's where it starts to get weird. The TV is mounted onto a wall and the lounge is sitting under it but a right angles, you can't actually sit on the lounge and watch the television unless you do as we did and drag the lounge across the room and push it up against the wall facing the TV. The other really odd, (or just plain bad,) design quirk is the bedroom has glass sliding doors facing the small living space but no way to shield it off from the living area. If one of you want to get up early or go to bed before the other, well, that's just too bad, the bedroom may as well be in the living room. The balcony leading off the bedroom has one chair (more bad design) we asked for, and got, an extra chair out there so we could both sit on the balcony at the same time. Why they would not have at least two chairs remains a mystery, checking out the other balconies that overlook the pretty nice pool we found it to be the same, just one chair. The location is good and bad, it's away from the main hustle and bustle of Seminyak but the do run a shuttle bus service three times a day into town. That may be good or bad depending on your perspective. There's a few nice cafes and restaurants within walking distance, and a couple of convenience stores up the street. They have a gym without any air-con which makes it pretty hard to spend any time in, it's very hot, and a roof top terrace with a standard hotel restaurant selection to choose from.
Hotel is ok. Staff is friendly. Breakfast is good. Room is in quite bad condition. There are no-smoking signs in the room, but the cigarrette smell is still strong. Room is also dirty. We asked for baby bed and got one. It was missing the lower part though. It was impossible to sleep there. We noted that to the reception but nothing happened. All in all ok hotel for that price (with all the discounts), but the 4 star grading is too much. I would give 3 star at most.
Convenient location if you are walking, no frills, and excellent staff. The path towards the hotel is in sore need of renovation and cars are unable to drive to the hotel and walking is a hazard. Staff were friendly and helpful and the true shining star of this hotel. Some security isssues and cleaniness issues (especially with sheets) prevent me from giving a 4 star review.
Hotel Umalas located in a quiet and quiet area, in the middle of a rice field area. Suitable for those whose looking for quiet place. The advantages are, the room size is spacious and comfortable room, and also with sofa, microwave, refrigerator and kitchen set. The location is also close to some wonderful restaurants that surrounded by rice fields, such as nook, d'sawah and also some nice restaurants in the petitenget area. The staff were friendly, but slow in respond. We asked for help to fix the balcony light and also the toilet that didn't work well, but until we checked out, still not handled at all. The lack of this hotel were, wifi was poor, and some parts of the building that need renovation because it has begun to rot. Breakfast at the rooftop was very nice sights, but unfortunately the menu choices were limited. And i suggest that you better use or rent car or motorcycle while staying in this hotel. I recommend this hotel overall as a 3 - 3,5 stars hotel.
CONs: Dissatisfied with the toilet; not so great location. PROs: Great service; affordable price; as for view, you're pretty much in the middle of everything, some building might block ur view but I'm not picky; there's gym, pool, & rooftop restaurant.
Umalas Hotel & Residence offers spacious rooms & a huge swimming pool + other facilities like free parking, spa, fitness, etc. in a great location, in Umalas. But it's really not worth it. The studios' layout is a bit clumsy and the interior spaces smell moist. Rooms are big though, but no charm. The gym is not taken care of, and equipment is a bit outdated + no door in the bathroom of ladies' changing room ?! The only + points go to the swimming pool & the friendly staff. Beside that, I don't recommend that place at all. At all.
we arranged lunch in this hotel at Kopi Langit restaurant. view is good at the rooftop. food quality is so so and need to more improve. we ordered gado-gado, caesar salad, chicken schnitzhel, fried rice. it's really need more improve.
This place is simply perfect! Heaven on earth! Excellent service, staff is always happy to help you out having a great day in this island of dream! I have nothing to complain about those villas. It's literally your home away from home
We went here for dinner.. the price looked reasonable not cheap but ok. As this restaurant was close to where we are staying thought we'd have a try 9f the food here.. first we were told two for one cocktails and beer.. which we though was a good deal we we ordered more than we normally would.. as thought why not have a good night out... When we came to pay the bill not only did they charge us full price for drinks... which increased the bill but then they told us when we paid there was a 21% yes 21% tax to pay... this was so B/S none of this was discolsed to us at time of meal... the food was not even good and cocktails worse... worst dining experience in Bail ever... I would advise going to this place.. all they are interested in is ripping off tourists. the bill was almost doubble what we expected to pay. Almost $50 Australian for crap food... Felt extremely taken advantage of.. and Hope this review does it's justice...
