This is a historic government-run hotel with all rooms on the ground floor facing either a pool or a landscaped garden. The room had a veranda, very high ceilings, a large bathroom with a tub, TV and individual air conditioning. The location is excellent, being a short walk from the Bali Museum and a fifteen-minute walk from the market where I bought three tie-dyed sundresses for a total of $24. Breakfast is included in the room rate which was an unbelievable USD$68 for three nights. This was my second stay here; the location and price can't be beaten!

This is a great place to stay - would not stay anywhere else in Denpasar! The setting is lovely - restaurant, where we had breakfast, opening to the pool area. Bedrooms huge set either around the garden with pond or garden with pool. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast offered a good choice. This is a character hotel and an absolute delight to stay in.

Stay in the same hotel as Queen Elizabeth, Charlie Chaplin, Gandhi and the first President, Sukarno himself! Ask one of the very cheerful and industrious staff if you can see Room 77 on the Garden Side of the road (the hotel spans both sides of the street, and is all on one level) Of course, being very old (built in around 1927 in its original format, but obviously expanded since then), it doesn't have the modern glossy feel that new hotels have. But we loved the gardens, immaculate pool, friendly staff and calm feeling in the midst of Denpasar (away from the typical tourist havens of Kuta and Sanur). You can walk down to the historical locations of the freedom fighters (Puputan), the Bali Museum, visit the fascinating Bird Market (and many other animals!) nearby, and the Pasar Badung. The air con may rattle a bit but it works just fine, and the glass in the bathroom may be a bit dusty, but the shower and bath are huge, the bed is positively vast and very very comfy, and the breakfast (brunch!!) was fantastic. We ate enough for both meals and my husband had a one-on-one lesson on omelette-cooking, which I anticipate will benefit me way beyond the end of our holiday ;) Will stay again, just for the peace and quiet in the garden rooms near each other with our Balinese friend, who thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Twin room very good size. Pool very nice and staff helpful and friendly. Hotel taxi very well priced and pick up arranged from airport excellent and on time. Only complaint would be that they need to pay more attention to cleaning bathroom tiles and taps. Mildew and built up streaking on taps that a good strong cleaner would remove. A short walk to fabric and batik shops. Heaven if you are a quilter or sewer.

The facilities and services were rather basic, and everything looked like it needed a bit of a repair and paint. But room was large, clean and had a good bed. Staff were very helpful and friendly and Hotel very well located with good parking. Price very good for the standard and would definitely recommend if looking for a good budget hotel. Great swimming pool.

this is on many times i don't remember stayed at this hotel every time i go to Bali. It's always wonderful stayed as it quite, peaceful far away from a group of crazy school kids yelling on hall and talking all night trough thin wall like a buzzing bees ha! love the hotel with an old Deco building, near to attractive Bali Museum, buy some nice cheap Kebayas at Jl. Gajah Mada. easy to find food as they have Shinta Cafe, walked to Ayam Goreng Pemuda or just hang out enjoying cold beer or whatever you want at cozy Volvet Cafe near hotel. the room are spacious and clean, the swimming pool is clean. the breakfast is so simple and not impressive, but i'm good with only have fruits and omlete! keep the door close, mosqitos attack!

We had no hot water for 3 days . After many complaints they offered to give us a bucket of hot water to wash in. That is when I demand that we be moved and after I told them We would leave we were moved to another room The place is bery tired and in the need of a good refurbishment

What a lovely hotel. Beer was cold and cheap and the staff very friendly. Couldn't ask for anything more. Would recommend a visit if your in Denpasar at any point during you're stay in Bali Oh and free wifi is always a bonus :)

I stayed at this hotel for 2.5 weeks on a business trip to Bali and found that it met all my needs. I much prefer it to more upmarket (and expensive) places that I have stayed in Denpasar on business. Why? Because it is well-located for government and other offices, is small and friendly, has old-fashioned but immaculately clean facilities, excellent wi-fi, and above all it is quiet, peaceful, and the staff are kind, helpful and well-trained. Much of the hotel's clientele is there for meetings, conferences, parties and celebrations, and it is an excellent place for people watching and meeting Indonesians. The restaurant provides modest breakfasts, and there is a small menu of dishes for lunches and evening meals. The swimming pool is immaculately kept and very under-used. Some rooms have large terraces overlooking the gardens - a good place for a quiet cold 'Bintang' in the evening. The Art Deco building is an attraction in itself, in an historic area of Badung. It's all on one floor, so no need for lifts and reasonably accessible throughout.

It was built in the 1920s so what could go wrong - right? Well for us - nothing went wrong. We enjoyed our stay there very much. At $40CDN a night it was a good value. The rooms and grounds were well kept - and quiet - a nice refuge from the noise of the street. The bathrooms are a bit old looking - but everything worked well. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to visit the sights shopping we wanted see. The reason we stayed in Denpasar was to access the airport at the end of our stay in Bali and Lombok. At the end of our two day stay staff helped us get an early taxi to the airport.
