My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. The setting is just beautiful, so peaceful and calm. The rooms are lovely even if they lack storage (I wasn't able to fully unpack). The staff go out of their way to help you. One of the activities suggested is a local walk, the hotel give you the route. My husband and I attempted this however, although the section through the rice paddies is fine, the part along the main road was extremely dangerous due to the roads having huge run-off style edges. We cut the route short and wouldn't suggest undertaking it. We felt Ubud itself was a bit of a disappointment, nothing overly spectacular but it didn't matter too much as we ate in the hotel. When we asked for milk in the room to make tea, it was brought almost instantaneously. Overall a really beautiful calm place to stay for a few days.

We have recently returned from Bali and the highlight of our trip was the time we spent at the Alila. It was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at. A beautiful, tranquil location with fantastic views. The food was incredible but it was really the staff who made the place so special. They all went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay and their genuine warmth and kindness was evident at all times. We would definitely return!

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Tranquil, good central location, fabulous spa treatments and a haven for wildlife. I recommend the walk from the grounds to the village. Lots of birdwatching and friendly locals.

We stayed at the Alila for 4 nights at the end of our honeymoon after 6 nights in Nusa Dua. The hotel staff were an absolute highlight - all genuinely interested in sharing their culture and determined to do anything they could to improve our stay. Our room was great with outstanding views and closely situated to the restaurant and pool. The pool was tranquil with fantastic views and very attentive staff. Pool snacks were amazing and the complementary ice creams very welcome. The optional star lit cinemas around the pool were excellent (again with complementary popcorn). The food at both the Plantation and Cabana restaurants was outstanding with personal needs fully taken care of. In addition to the delicious menus, the free Balinese meal was delicious and the Spice Market entertainment and buffet style meal was exquisite. The spa was excellent with very good value for money and again brilliant service. The monkey visitors topped it off! This was by far the best hotel I have stayed in and I would be certain to return if I ever went back to Bali. Perfect for honeymoons!

We stayed for 3 nights on our honeymoon and the room is probably the nicest we have ever been in. The bed was very comfortable and the view over the valley and forest was incredible. The sounds of the jungle and the visit from the odd monkey was great! The staff were attentive and friendly and brought us fruit and chocolate cake to congratulate us on our marriage. The pool is beautiful and the views from the deep end are amazing- although it was too cold while we were there to stay in too long. The location is out of the way and you can do some small walks around the rice fields and meet friendly locals. The hotel is too far from Ubud to walk, but their free shuttle is useful and reasonably priced taxis (£5-10) are easy to get you back. The only downside of the hotel is that you feel a little cut off while you are there and the restaurant is very expensive if you are to eat there every night. The bar menu is cheaper, but 3-4 times more expensive than if you were to eat in Ubud. Having said this, the food was some of the best we had while in Bali. Would recommend this hotel if you really did want to escape it all and enjoy luxury.

We stayed here on our honeymoon for one night. The view from the pool was amazing and makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the jungle. We had a fantastic room with lots of wow factors e.g outside bath and a private pool however we had a few small problems broken air con (which was fixed) broken tv (which was not) and a boiling shower which we couldn't make cold. These small issues did not put a damper on our stay and we would highly recommend the hotel. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The additional complimentary shuttle bus was a huge help into ubud town centre. We found lunch delicious however not a huge selection for breakfast. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alila.

I went to Bali for the first time in 20 years. This was our third time of visiting Ubud. First of all What's not so good about this hotel is that ... * When Alila's driver picked us up, he encouraged us to join rafting tour as soon as we got into the car. We have had it with him. Alila should prevent this from happening. * Though they should have known our check-in time, our room was not ready. They took us to a completely different type of room by mistake, and after that they took us back to the lobby. We got tired. * In ShopAlila, a female store clerk recommended Alila SPA's products like mad. We couldn't leave till we bought. It was the most disgusting event during our stay. * The infinity pool was so crowded and noisy all day long. So we couldn't get close to the poolside the whole time during our stay. Our daughter was dissapointed because she brought her swim suit. We want Alila to try to make everyone enjoy themselves. * Daily Newspaper is one of the privileges of Discovery Member, but we didn't get. * We had told Alila our return flight beforehand, but we had to explain again at the front desk. Didn't they note our information? Next What's good about this hotel is that ... * We could see trees near by from every window (even from the bathtub!!). In the morning, many squirrels came to breakfast. At noon, a monkey came and sit on the balcony. At night, a big gecko was on the door. We could be relax and fall into sleep, listening to frogs' chorus and sounds of insects. What a wonderful room in the middle of the jungle!! * We went for a walk around the hotel and we met many ducks and chickens in the rice fields. It was so fun! * Meals were great and smiles of the waiters made us happy. We are so sensitive because Japanese are often treated badly even in a five-star restaurant. But we weren't at all in ALILA UBUD. They offered the best service. * The energetic boy who brought breakfast to our balcony every morning. The man who was always breathless with coming at once. The female house keeper who always gently smiled and helped us. You take pride in your job and we respect all of you. Finally, the green room and the staff were awesome so we forgot all of these: the trouble at check-in, a window with broken lock, the broken shower, the broken phone. I will definitely stay here longer next time. See you then, ALILA UBUD!

A fantastic location which can't be beaten, the atmosphere was perfect and the service outstanding. All the staff were very attentive and we didn't have one complaint about them whatsoever. However, very minor points to note. The bath was full when we arrived, once we emptied it we found 2 frogs inside! - not complaining about it as we were in the jungle and expected it! Also, during the Bale Begong we booked for 1900 but no one was around to meet us as I was told earlier in the day, I had to go find someone after waiting 30mins. Animal noises are amazing and you'll find lots of critters during the day and night to keep you entertained. Very chilled out few days, wish we booked an extra day so we could explore a bit more of the Ubud - took 2.5hrs from the airport due to traffic (and arrival time of flight). Lovely hotel.

The hotel is about a 20 minute cab ride from the shops and restaurants in Ubud, pending traffic and probably an 90 minutes from the airport. The staff are friendly and welcoming and they wanted to do everything to make sure you're on holiday. The infinity pool is nice but there isn't an abundance of sun beds or bean bags around the pool so you have to claim one early. The outdoor shower in the room is absolutely unbelievable best I've ever experienced in my 42 years. However the room does not have a TV which is not a problem but it also doesn't have an iron which is quite inconvenient. All the towels don't seemed to get changed so some are damp and just hung up when you return to your room in the evening. Hotel has no fitness suit. Should possibly provide more shuttles into town because the last one back is at half three in the afternoon. Housekeeping mistook a towel of mine for one of their own (it's plain white) and when I asked reception on two different occasions if they could look for it or if they could get back to me if it turned up to me the issue remained unresolved and I was left in the dark and towel-less. There's monkeys running about all over the shop during the day. Some are cheeky enough to put their hand in your glass of water and help themselves. But the hotel is situated in the middle of the jungle. There is a fee in the region of 15-20% service charge added on to your stay at the end but after every drinks purchase or meal there is also the same charge. We were also promised a free meal during our stay which was arranged through our travel agency but obviously this was not communicated between the two parties and the fee they were charging was £130 for a satisfactory meal that didn't fill a very big hole. Lots of steps around the hotel which isn't wheelchair friendly.

A tourist trap! wonderful place but very bad service. 25 USD per person for a cup of tee and some nuggets. Not really aligned with level of hospitality we experienced in Bali. Definitely not in my list for my next trip to my favorite island.
