Being cheaper than all of my backpacker stays so far in Yangon, I stayed at Kaung Lay Inn for six nights - and had a better experience than all the others! The room/bed was massive, and perfectly clean. Love the teak interior, and the breakfast room is beautiful in the morning. Which brings me to breakfast. Pancakes, honey and fruit to start with - then eggs on toast with tea or coffee. A welcome change from the rice and noodles I was served at breakfast at other (pricier) hotels - and filled me up to bursting point. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and willing to go to the ends of the earth to make your stay enjoyable. I felt completely safe and welcome as a solo traveller- really can't recommend this place enough. Top tip: As its slightly off the beaten track, some taxi drivers had difficulty finding it. But its located right next to the throat, ear and nose hospital (which everybody knows) - so ask to be taken there and walk the 30 seconds to Kaung Lay Inn. Enjoy your stay! I'll definitely be coming back.
Although the staff was very friendly, the facilities were very basic. Access to the room is up a quite steep and narrow staircase. If you have health problems you may want to avoid. The Hotel is a bit off the beaten path. We were able to find a decent resturant nearby (which are hard to find in Myanmar).
I spent 3 nights in this hotel and I recommend it!! Despite a rather long distance from the centre of the town this hotel is probably one of the best for value one in Yangon !! No more than 25$/night breakfast included! And the breakfast is excellent. Wifi connection is rather good which is not so obvious in Myanmar !!! And last but not least the staff and all employees are delightful !!!
I stayed three nights at this budget hotel with a friend of mine. I was surprised by the size of the room which I thought it was much smaller. Comfortable beds, clean toilet. I found the place a bit noisy, but acceptable given the price. The staff is kind and helpful and the breakfast fills you up until lunch time. I would definitely recommend this place.
We reserved a King Size Bed, however we were provided two single beds. The breakfst was surprisingly filling (pancakes, toasts and eggs), it gave me enough energy to explore the downtown area before having lunch. Quiet neighborhood but difficult to go to the center and the pagodas, unless you take the cab. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.
Just 30$ a night, we got a superior stay with great service mind from hotel team. Thanks to Thu Rain, Thantzin Tun, Moon Lay and the team who hosted us, played water with us and treated us as home!!! If you want to feel a real steak wooden Myanmar house, wake up with crows and pegions sound, a 4th floor top resting area looking over Pagoda and green trees, free breakfast, coffee, tea and super-free-good-service-mind, STAY HERE! Remarks: No lift, air need time to make you cold so just take a shower first, but it's very cold at night time (We was on Thingyan festival and the weather was 40 degress something so we can understand) Recommend for those who love to experience a real Myanmar style stay. If you need more facialities, take other 5 star hotels then.
Nice, friendly and helpful Staff. A warning, if you dont like climbing stairs and are suited at the top floor. The bed did not have any sheets on the foot side of the bed!!! One the minus is that staff really wanted us out from the room before check out time. Water is not included you need to pay for that.
Near to downtown and aiport. They have reasonable rates. Rooms are bigger than expected. I actually requested to transfer me to a smaller room. Kaung lay inn is a branch of kaday aung hotel in bagan. Staff are very friendly and they're always willing to help us. Wifi connection is not bad. They have free breakfast. Ambiance and concept is some kind of a country side with a lot of wood carves.
The main reason I rented this place is for the convenience to Thuwunna Indoor Stadium (for Yoma Yangon Marathon). It is within walking distance to Ma Hlwa Gone Railway Station which you can experience the circular railway for 200kyats per-person. It is also near to Chauk Htat Gyi Buddha aka Reclining Buddha (free entrance). This area can be very hard to excess at certain hour if driving because there's a major road construction nearby and we were caught in the jam when on our way from the airport. Do note that they will not arrange for an airport pick-up service even if you request for it. Found it out the hard way as we waited but decided to cab there ourselves. Bought the ticket over the taxi counter in the airport for 10,000kyats. The guy in the hotel told me he didn't see my request and it is still cheaper to get it straight from the airport as they outsource this service to the local taxis and that the fare will be expensive. We stayed on the ground floor, the room is well maintain but the floor is dirty and sandy. The breakfast is western style toast bread and eggs. They refuse to give me more eggs, which annoys me a little but didn't matter.
We've got a free upgrade so really nice price-per-value experience. Big, clean room, good wifi, nice breakfast, highly recommended. Located a bit off main attractions though so you'll need to use taxi (no worries - v. cheap and easy to get).
