Late notice cancelation

Despite messaging the host two weeks before our check in and then days and hours before check in, we did not hear anything from him until an hour after check in when he messages to inform us it was double booked and asked to cancel the booking. VRBO was great about the experience, but it felt as if the host had found someone to pay more last minute on a busy weekend.
