During our visit there was a major plumbing failure which also shut down the elevator service. Being on the 11th floor this was a significant inconvenience. Staff was very helpful and a good breakfast available in basement for an extra charge.
We stayed early august 2017 and were not aware that 1) the motel was 45 mins drive from the airport..not a big deal we just got our maps out and made the drive. Upon arriving at the motel down a dangerously narrow 1 way alleyway, we were suddenly trapped in the street by other cars who had inadvertently made the same mistake as we had- driving down the godawful street with which there was not a single place to turn around. We were wedged there and had it not been for my husband excellent reversing skills we would've not made it out. (up a blind hill with only enough room for our small car- a camry- we almost hit other cars which were illegally parked several times and saw some others do the same thing. ) We parked in the loading bay infront of the motel. We asked about parking and we realized upon further inspection that our camry was TOO BIG TO FIT!. We were also bluntly told no, there was no parking available and we were given a map which gave us horrendous directions to go back 3 streets and then cross the highway to get to an a small parking space which we had to pay $30 to use. To leave our rental car out on the street for anything to happen to. Upon walking back to the hotel down the allyway we had someone throwing half eaten chicken bones at us from one of the balcony's above (someone staying at the motel). The streets were also littered in garbage and stank. I tried to have an open mind and keep my cool as i was tired from travelling for 14 hrs and just wanted someone quiet and clean to sleep... We got to our room and it was nice enough. Very basic and small but had 2 rooms and a decent sized bathroom. Enough for 2 people anyway. There had been a washer and or dryer in there once before but were now removed. So i wouldn't stay here if you need those services... The lounge was SO DIRTY it was unsafe to sit on without towels. It was covered in god knows what splattered all over it, in bright visible stains. I'm afraid to ask what it was... It was also exceedingly uncomfortable. We had a quick wash in the needle like shower (with shoes on because the place was tidy but the previous experiences had made my skin crawl enough to not want to risk bare feet) There were no soaps or shampoo's for guests either. Just a dodgy dispenser stuck to the wall like a public bathroom. After going to bed we realized there was no blankets on the bed at all. Only sheets encasing a thin microfibre quilt. To accommodate for this we just turned the heating up. Once in bed it was impossible to sleep because the sheets were so papery and crunchy it was literally like sleeping in a reem of paper. Every time we moved an inch it was so loud it woke the other person up. The mattress was also very hard and the pillows must be 20 yrs old or just poor quality because as soon as you lay your head on it, the stuffing gave out and you may as well have not slept on anything. I ended up using my thick coat as a pillow! Trying to sleep was near impossible at times due to rd noise. It turns out the streets below are used as race tracks for hoons until all hours of the morning. The last burn out and revving i heard was 3am. Then sirens. By 5am the other travellers in the motel began leaving and slamming their doors. each, and every single door could be heard slamming from our room. By 8 am we were packed and ready to get the hell out of that *insert profanity* place. We gave back our key and ran for the hills, leaving Auckland to never ever return. It was NOT worth the money we paid and in hindsight i would've walked out and gone back to the airport motels had i known how bad it was going to be. I prayed this wasn't setting a precedence for our holiday and thankfully Quest Rotorua rectified the holiday the following night.
this hotel is situated in a quiet location slightly away from the city centre but can be easily accessible by car (5 minutes drive). clean and well maintained, however, they need to improve on the sound-proofing. you can literally hear people walking above you. I was glad that I was heading out early the next day to another town.
The people in the front desk was nice and the location was good, in 15 minutes walking you can be in the center. The cleaning service was not really good and the beds were old. At least the apartment was well equipped
The service level has dropped since my last stay with them. The evening reception staff was not a happy person. She was on duty the evenings that i stayed with them. She gave curt replies to my questions wanting me to quickly move on though there was no other customers waiting to speak to her. Happened both days. The toiletries in the bathroom was missing when l wanted to shower the first day. Called reception to let them know. Was told to go down to the reception desk to collect the missing items. No apologies from them. Wifi policy has also changed. It is limited to 500mb so be aware of that before booking.
Central and pretty quiet apart from hearing heavy footed (resembling elephants) people walking around in unit above. Beds moderately firm but comfortable. However poorly made beds. Bottom sheet not reaching bottom of mattress to tuck in, therefore became caught up in sheet when sleeping and it came off bed by morning. Sheets very clean and crisp. Including the one used on top of bed as a Duvet cover. So moving in bed resembled the noise of lying in cellophane wrap. No heatpump or laundry equipment in room as stated in literature. Main room was very warm though. Decore dated. Couch and chair very uncomfortable. Walls painted with flat paint (maybe even only one coat) so many marks noted from trying to wipe walls. Twin room very squashed and small and dirty behind beds (had to pull beds out to access plugs). Non opening Window in this room directly into lounge to give light. Blind in this room needed to be pulled each time for privacy from lounge. And was pressed hard against one bed which banged on window frame when moving in bed. Manager quick to act on Sunday morning at 7.30am to a call i made about a party in the room 2 doors down that had been going for a lengthy period. Parking limited and not a task for the faint hearted! or those with large vehicle. No drop off access at reception. Unit all single glazed. Double room all highway noise very audible! No shampoo bottles but plenty of shower caps and make up wipes. Great hairdryer. Best sitting sideways on toilet to reach toilet paper unless you are a contortionist. Range hood filter heavy with grease.
This is a hotel in an excellent location. The rooms and apartments are very small, and not exciting for the price, but that is not the main issue. I could overlook that for a couple of nights, because of the location. I was really annoyed by the internet. It is supposed to be free, but it is only 500mb, and really cumbersome to work out.You have to get a code each time from reception etc. Also, even when the receptionist gave me another voucher, this would not work, and the system asked me to pay money. In the end I gave up. As I travel a lot on business, this is extremely annoying. CBD hotels should have free and generous WIFI. There is no excuse, given the prices they charge.
The first problem we encounted with this hotel was finding it. We were unable to turn into St Martin's Lane due to the horrendous traffic. It took almost half an hour to turn around and get back to the hotel..... Then there was nowhere to pullover to go to the reception. I left a very stressed husband double parked for over 10 minutes while I waited to check in. With 3 other guests and only one person on reception, it took a while. The next challenge was getting our car ( a medium size Rav 4) into the parking garage which we had paid extra for. It was a very tight turn and the assigned space barely allowed room for the car next to us to get out. As for our 2 bedroom apartment - Which the website described as "luxurious, and in a new building" - we found it tired, worn and dusty. The main bed was ok but the one my daughter's shared had a huge dip in the middle, some of the reading lights were broken, and the previous guest's rubbish was still in the kitchen bin. Also the window, very close to the bed had a broken latch making it really hard to block out the howling wind you get in a high rise. On a positive note, the kitchen was great and the bathroom/ shower was modern and worked well. We were glad to check out the next morning - but they made that difficult too, as they took our parking pass/ card off us - so we couldn't get through the boom gate. After another 10 minutes, freedom at last and onto to rest of our NZ adventure.
We came and stayed here for my sister in laws graduation. We have a nice wee 2bedroom apartment overlooking the city. Cant complain about much at all, rooms were fin, beds comfy, bathroom nice and spacious, amazing shower pressure. Only downside is the carpark as its very steep to get into and very narrow driving through. Also the rooms didnt have much utensils eg: no scissors or cooking utensils. For the price we paid it was a great overnight stay.
Stayed for 3 nights during the school holidays, family apartment, two bedrooms, good size for two adults and two older kids (10 & 16), kitchen and bathroom good size, we were on the 14th floor with view of the Sky Tower, the car park is very tight with a steep angled drive, we did just manage to park our 4x4 Hilux on the first level, there is public car parking very close by. Easy enough walk into main CBD, little steep on the way back, gym facility was good for a quick work out, pool closed for the winter, we didn't have the breakfast, the lifts are quite busy at 10 am due to check out. Staff were friendly and approachable. Would def stay here again
