Arrived a little after midnight so the front doors were closed (didn't realise at first they were the front doors) there is a bell to get attention of front desk. The rooms have a kitchenette which is really useful. Microwave, toaster, fridge and sink. All required kitchen utensils and products provided. Perfect location. We walked upto Mt Eden in the morning, well worth the small hike. Then the sky tower in the afternoon. It rained on our first morning but since the sun came out it was glorious. Only downside I can find is the stretch noise not traffic, but emptying of presumably retail unit bins around 4:30am every morning. We tried the Indian across the street on out last night, highly recommended. More of a cafe, but the food was lovely. The harbour is a lovely area to wander and sit around. The ice cream and cookie sandwich by the harbour was amazing

If you are uncomfortable in an overcrowded, noisy, cosmopolitan city then this may not be the place for you. To be fair to the hotel though our accomodation was booked by a broker not by us and hindsight is a wonderful thing. Our studio apartment was on the 7th floor overlooking Queen Street. There was very limited space to place travel bags so the 2 seats for the small table became bag stands. The 2 lounge chairs had become quite worn and uncomfortable. We had a Queen bed and the gap between the bed & wall was only 200mm which in my opinion is bordering on unsafe. Television reception on all channels was extremely poor so fortunately the complementary internet wifi was first class for streaming entertainment as an alternative. A tip for rooms facing Queen Street is to draw the blinds during the day if you are going out as the room can become quite warm from the sun beaming in. Windows do open for those people who enjoy fresh air but on the negative side it also lets in the city noise. Only valet parking is available at $30NZ/24hr. Staff are courteous and helpful. Restaurant meals were excellent and morning breakfast buffet was let down by staff being overrun by groups of tourists flocking in off the street to consume most of the buffet food on display while hotel clientele who had ordered pre-cooked food looked on in sheer horror. Hotel staff could not obviously handle situations like this and an apology from the checkout counter in no way could compensate for the chaos and noise generated by situations like this, that shattered the ambience and quality of the restaurant. Unfortunately the Scenic Hotel won't be on our list of top 10 places to stay in NZ.

We only stayed a single night before collecting a hire campervan. Our flight (from San Francisco) landed at 05:35, so we were at the hotel before 8 a.m. Amazingly they found a vacant room, allocated it to us, and let us use it straight away for a shower and freshen-up without charging us extra. Convenient location to walk into central Auckland, which we did. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was good with a wide choice. Then they arranged a fixed-price taxi to the campervan hire depot (near the airport). We enjoyed our short stay.

We felt like we have found the perfect place! We took the intercity bus from Whangarei that dropped us one block away from this hotel on Queen St in the Auckland CBD. First night we opted to eat in the hotel restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our $15 lamb shank entree with a nice house wine. We went on a self guided walking tour and found Federal Deli for a yummy breakfast before heading to the Ferry Building and the marina area. Walked to the Sky Tower for sunset tour and dinner at Sugar Club. Departure morning we grabbed the continental breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant before walking out the front door! to catch the airport Sky Bus shuttle. Oh, and our queen bedroom suite was clean, comfortable, and loaded with products and amenities.

We were given a lovely corner room with good views, as it had windows on three sides. The room had a very spacious living area with sofas, a dining table and a really well stocked kitchenette. The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was clean, the shower powerful and the complementary bath products, really nice. Our room was very clean and well presented but the communal areas lifts, corridors etc. were looking a bit tired and need a lick of paint. My only major criticism would be that it is an old character building, therefore the windows are not double glazed and being in the CBD it is really noisy at night! Being an old building I can understand that it would cost a fortune to glaze these windows in keeping with the buildings character but it might be a worthwhile investment for the future. I really found it a struggle to sleep with the noise and I can imagine it might get cold in winter.

Staff extremely helpful. However the hotel is past its useby date. The room design is not user friendly. The bed in the small bedroom doesn't work - very hard to get around the bed, too much furniture subsequently no floor space. Bathroom very old and tired. But the staff need to be commended for their attitude and efforts.

This facility always provides for a clean comfortable and well serviced stay. The hotel is located close to my business activities making walking the perfect option Great to have the car valet service! I enjoyed the upgrade provided! Thanks scenic hotel!

I booked this hotel primarily because of its location. It is within Queen Streeet which is the main street of downtown Auckland. Also decided to stay here because of easy accessibility to the Skybus bus stop. Signage of the hotel was not quite obvious so open you eyes well if you are walking to it. It has a very small main entrance. Check in was fast and efficient. There were only two elevators in this hotel. The room was quite spacious. Bed was queen sized. Mattress and pillows were comfortable. Bathroom was a little small though although complete with amenities. One thing i experienced was the noise from outside. Although we stayed at the highest floor (7th), noise from outside was still bothersome. Maybe because their windows were not sound proof. Also notice a funny smell of the room. It just smelled strange. Overall would rate it a 8/10

Great stay, helpful and friendly staff! Will be back as it’s such a central location. Easy walk down to Britomart and Viaduct. Staff are very helpful and the hotel was very clean.....valet car parking was fast and easy too.

I stayed one night in a queen room on the top floor. Staff were very approachable and helpful. Room was clean and bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out! Very conveniently located and within easy walking distance of a supermarket if you wanted to use the kitchenette facilities. Great - would stay again.
