Stayed here 2 nights. Central Auckland middle of cbd. Accessible and the sky bus shuttle from and to the airport stops right in front so super convenient. A good place to just sleep for the night and not look for super amenities. Wish they had a day bed though as we had to check out at 10 and our flight was only at midnight. But of course luggage storage was available. Good experience all in all.
We had a booked a studio apartment which was very nice but there was a high pitched beeping noise in the bedroom. We asked them to check it out which they did and as they couldn’t get it sorted until they the next day they agreed to give us another room. They upgraded us to an apartment on the 9th floor which was lovely. Kitchenette and living room on one floor with a balcony and bedroom and bathroom on the upper floor. There were a few things which needed attention though. The remote for the air conditioning unit was flat and needed new batteries. The set top box for the sky TV channels is in the understairs cupboard so we had to go into the cupboard to point the remote at the box in order to change the channels. Also, the light bulbs to the lights on the stairs had gone so they need replacing. During our stay we had a fire evacuation at 8.30 am which was no problem as we were already up, but according to the booklet about the hotel we should have followed the procedure posted on the back of the bedroom door, but there was nothing there! Despite this, all the guests in the hotel were escorted to safety by the fire wardens until the fire department said it was safe to return. This sounds pretty bad but actually everything went very well. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and would do anything to help. We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend this hotel. It is an old Art Deco building with many original features although the staff told us that they are going to refurbish it. I hope they don’t remove the Art Deco features. It needs good double glazing to keep out the street noise. It still has the original 1920’s metal windows which do warp. The location is perfect - on the main high street of the city, opposite the town hall and the Sky tower. I would definitely stay there again.
Maybe it was just the room we stayed in...on the 2nd floor, but it sure was tired. The couch and easy chair were both stained(the type of stain that is now ingrained) on the arms and seats. When I booked I requested a quiet room away from the road noise of Queen Street...ah, no! My bed was beside the window only just above the street. For the cost of $241.00 for the night...I'm not impressed. This was my second stay here...I will probably be looking elsewhere next stay in Auckland.
We arrived from the UK early on a Saturday but they allowed us to check in early at no extra cost. The room was exactly what we wanted and was very clean. We stayed in room 502 which has a kitchenette attached which was perfect for us as we felt we had a little extra room. It was nice as one evening we had food in the hotel room as the sleep deprivation from the flight had finally got to us. The receptionist was friendly and every time you passed they said hello. They held our bags after check out so we could collect our hire car without lugging them with us. I would really recommend this place for couples starting a big trip around New Zealand. The perfect place to start.
I stayed here for 3 nights on a room only basis with my partner in room 508, the hotel was lean , central and very friendly. The room was well equipped having a standard double with full kitchen facilities which were excellent. View of the sky tower from our windows ( and yes a little noisy but it is city centre) Pleased with our choice of hotel overall and perfect for the sky bus stop for the airport. Food in the cafe bar was excellent and they also do happy hour 5-7 most days so well worth a visit.
The room was clean, huge and comfortable. The staff was sublime. We had several special requests. They bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. We felt certain they truly cared and were so willing to assist. The location is great as well.
Stayed here for 3 nights and all the staff were lovely and very helpful. Ideal location as it’s only 10/15 mins walk to Britomart although there are plenty of buses if you don’t want the exercise! Numerous shops, cafes, restaurants and bars around the local area. Although the decor of the hotel and rooms are old, there is a refurbishment plan planned for this year. Breakfast was very good offering buffet or cooked food. Each room has a small kitchenette complete with microwave, kettle, sink, crockery and cutlery providing you with greater flexibility. We would certainly stay here again due to the central location and welcoming staff.
When we arrived the building was being renovated and there was nowhere to park to offload out bags. There is valet parking at $30 per day, but car park closes at 11pm so car can’t be accessed after this. The staff were kind and helped as much as they could. The room was a little tired but nicely furnished and extremely comfortable beds. The bed by the window was very noisy from the street noise.
Stayed here for two nights. The room was very nice but the bedding was terrible. My husband slept terribly on it. Would give higher than 3 but not 4 stars based on this. The staff were very good-friendly and helpful. Queen street is a great street for shopping.
Friendly staff are the bonus in this hotel, although the furniture in the rooms is extremely tired to present a rather disappointing overall experience. The rooms can be a funny shape basically because they fit into the wedge shape style of the hotel. It is placed at the tp of Queen Street and s about half a mile down to the waterfront. it does have a bar, restaurant and laundry service. Beds were comfortable but it isn't somewhere I would go back to visit unless it gets a refurb, which is what I feel it needs. We moved rooms after the initial allocation as it the first offering was awful. The second apartment was much lighter and better. there is also a live music venue opposite which blasts on into the night. we wouldn't stay here again.
