Customer Service doesn't exist. Any grumble to female in reception was met with a passive aggressive comment. No information book in room. Asked about restaurant. Response was that restaurants were in walking distance and hadn't had a restaurant for years. Sign outside shows restaurant on site. Restaurant also mentioned on website indicated breakfast available and room service. Toilet brush in bathroom had toilet tissue attached and we were told this would be replaced that day. That was never replaced despite staying 4 nights. Bathroom wasn't clean. Bed wasn't made daily (but not sure if it was meant to be). Bed made on 3rd day. Towels replaced randomly. Phone wire disconnected in room. No instructions for TV. Ashtray not emptied. Sides of vanity show old shampoo tube. Other end shows a band aid! Photos attached.
Amazing staff but this place needs a decent cleaner. Our 1st room still had makeup thru the bathroom so we changed but did not get much of an upgrade. The bathroom was filthy and mouldy. The back door was broken so couldn't be locked. Bed sheets were not even clean. Waste of money.
I would check the reviews before booking this place. Room, balcony and bathroom were not clean, ants in kitchenette, broken fittings, no shower curtain. I would never stay here again. Im not sure the owners were that interested.
Well placed between the beach, a grocery-store and central Takapuna - we opted to stay here several days. Sure, one can understand that they are renovating the whole place - some decor, paintings and rugs really calls out the good ´ol 90-ies! ;) But it was ok. The couple who runs the place was very service-minded and helped us to plan and do our things. Although the internet is free - you only get a certain amount a day with a code - that you have to reenter everyday... or get several codes to use in series every day. ;) All and all it was a good budget-stay for all of us.
I will read the trip advisor reviews before I book another motel anywhere !! Basil's brother and sister run this labrynthine establishment. Telephone manners were marginal when we first booked, and it went downhill from there. On arriving found our room with spa bath did not have a spa bath, so requested one with at least a bath. Were shown another room up a flight of stairs and after realising the bed was very old innersprung with hard edges, decided to visit the loo, only to find that the extraction fan in the bathroom was kaput. Not pleasant. Called reception, a man dressed as a garbage worker came up and, after musing that he needed to call the electrician, informed us that we had been unhappy from the moment we arrived, which was not true. He invited us to find alternative accommodation, since they had nothing else to offer. We gratefully accepted our chance to escape, and he informed us that there would be no charge to our card. However 1 week later I found a charge on our card, emailed Miss Fawlty without any reply, and then spoke to her 2 days running, on both occasions getting excuses as to why she was too busy to look into the unauthorised charge to our credit card. Finally got an unprofessional email reply informing us no charge had been made. Overall if there was a zero rating I would tick the box. PS The real flags on the frontage look as if they came on Cook's Endeavour - first clue to this dated hostel - DRIVE ON.
Great location for us as we were attending a weeding close by pool is great the room was ok had aircon which was great as it was pretty warm walls are a bit thin as could her the people in next room talking clearly,we were give extra towels for the pool and a clothes horse to it has a self service laundry, room were not the cleanest but the people that run the place were very helpful.
If you just need somewhere to sleep it serves it's purpose. Very old everything, don't believe the pictures. Very 70's and could do with a good lick of paint. Musty smell on the bed coverings, and old mattresses and pillows. Pool was good though.
The only positive about the motelroom is there was enough coffee provided. The building is looking like you step in an old factory. Dirty walls in the room. The outsite need a tidy up, leaves everywhere. It is worn out need a total upgrate. The reception is never demand. You can not leave the key in a drop off box so have to wait till the owner open the door.
The property is a little on the older side so don’t expect a international service as you would in large brand name hotels. It’s locally owned and locally run so His is a plus plus when you can support the local economy. The room was pretty good not one of the new ones but it was ok, if you have something you need ask, if something needs to be repaired ask. They served and served well, the attendants for the room service each day were very friendly and very nice. If you don’t get is it’s because you did not ask, would I stay here most certainly yes. It’s very near he city a short bus and ferry ride to Auckland. He property is being renewed and renovated now so it’s getting a new facelift.
Do not even think about booking this place! After driving all day, we had arrived here to find out the man at the desk said he hadn't received our booking. I had a confirmation email and I have booked through wotif over 100 times! He was extremely rude and showed no empathy at all. Meanwhile, another couple were beside us trying to check in as well - they had the exact same problem with the hotel. It is clear that the people running this hotel have no idea what the hell there doing and should be in a retirement home.
