Located on Queen Street so its very central. Still being renovated so some facilities not available. The room is large and services are new and great. Cloisonne pot and cups! Complementary coffee capsules and machine But no tray for the soap! The staff are friendly and the doorman is great and supportive and doesn't take tips!
I stayed here on the recommendation of a very discerning colleague - I was a bit surprised when I entered a lobby and lift area clearly still undergoing major renovations. My surprise turned to delight when I entered my fully renovated room. The renovated rooms are a feast of art deco luxury and delight. The rooms are spacious, the bed luxuriously comfortable and the fitout considered. The location of the Grand Windsor is fantastic - on the harbour end of Queen Street it is a 5 - 10 minute walk to the viaduct and wharf restaurants and 5 - 10 minute walk to most corporate offices and 10 minutes walk to the top of Queen street for the shops and cinema. The staff are very friendly and helpful. At the moment the only 'down-side' to this property is that there are no dining facilities onsite - so no room service for those late nights working in your room on a business trip. There are though cafes and restaurants within 2 -3 minutes walk from the front door. You don't get harbour views or a lot of natural light in the rooms but they are otherwise incredibly warm and cosy. Could become my Auckland favourite - watching with interest for the renovation completion.
We had tickets to a concert at Aotea Centre and at late notice got a newly renovated suite for a night. Have stayed previously at Windsor and enjoyed the location as an easy walk to "everywhere" in the CBD - theatres, viaduct, ferries, Britomart, great cafes & restaurants. Just make sure your windows are closed properly and street noise is completely eliminated! The renovations were still going on in the foyer but the staff were so kind and helpful that it wasn't an issue - the only negative is they didn't have valet parking and their car park was a 10 minute walk from the hotel but at $26 for 24hrs was pretty good for Ak CBD. Will definitely continue to stay here when we have an event in Auckland.
Must say that they are making an effort for improvement. The construction is still ongoing and I woke up one morning to leave for work and the air in the whole corridor on my floor(5th)was filled with white dust which I think was from the construction. Not sure if I was staying at a hotel or a construction site.. Anyway, the rooms were clean enough and I believe that once the construction is complete it will be a decent stay close to the ferry and hype of the city.
The room was beautiful! It was large and the decor was like something out of a magazine, chairs where a great pop of colour, stylish and comfortable. The bathroom was luxurious, the rain shower fantastic and the bed was huge and very comfortable. I loved the signature coffee pot, cups and saucers, a special touch. Didnt hear any street noise, and the hotel is a short walk to wonderful restaurants in Britomart, Viaduct etc. The hotel reception and foyer is still being rennovated, only downside, but then how long do you spend there? When had no issues regarding the rennovations, the floor our room was located on was impeccably finished as was our room. When all of the rennovations are complete it will be one of Auckland's most stylish hotels. Take advantage of the cheaper rates during this rennovation period.
This hotel is being renovated and the new rooms are excellent. The price was reasonable and the service excellent. This will be a top location and once the restoration is completed will be hard to book due to its popularity. It is a grand hotel with all the charm of a place of this era. Only rated down due to renovation workarounds.
Stayed 3 nights this week and was very pleased with the experience! Excellent location, close to the cafes and shops, bus stop right outside the hotel and walking distance to the wharf and ferry. The service was also good. Very friendly staff. On the first night, I found the blankets a bit itchy and they changed it without fuss. The newly refurbished Rooms are excellent. Boutique style rooms, with Edwardian furnishings and beautiful wall papers. The bathrooms are clean and I loved the toiletries!! Because the refurb is still on, the lobby area downstairs and the lifts are quite dusty and noisy. However you can't hear any of that once in the room. The only critique I have is that there is no mini bar or snacks in the room for any late night hunger pangs. Other than that, was very enjoyable. I would stay there again..
The Grand Windsor is nearing it's complete renovation and the new rooms are a treat. For starters, it's REALLY nice to sleep in a super-comfy brand new hotel bed w/ new sheets and fresh fluffy pillows. I think that this hotel has done a superlative job completely redoing the hotel rooms + ensuites. The lobby restaurant bar is next. Located 1 & 1/2 blocks from the wharf, next to the train transport hub, BritoMart + shops/restaurants and the nearby Viaduct -- if one needs to be in the CBD, this is a great place to perch. I think the Grand Windsor will soon be considered Auckland CBD's best boutique hotel. A lot of thought and interior decoration has gone into this renovation and it is 1st-rate.The TV screens are big - 50'' w/ multiple channels. The lighting fixtures are thoughtfully selected. The overhead "rainfall" shower is premium touch. Finally, the staff is one of THE best hotel teams I've encountered -- friendly, welcoming, professional, hospitable and thoroughly service-oriented.
This hotel is in a central location and close to the ferry terminal, useful for us as we had no car. The staff on arrival were extremely friendly and helpful and allowed us to have the room an hour early. There is a lot of renovation work going on and although there are two lifts only one was available for guests. Our room was spacious and quiet but was a 'little tired' ( small carpet stains, dated bathroom). Corridors, the lift and the reception area were extremely dusty due to the renovation work. Very good value however.
I made this my base for exploring Auckland. I was impressed when I walked into the lobby. It looked pretty grand, and the service was good ...the room was not quite as grand as the lobby, but it was clean and comfortable. The beast thing about the Grand Windsor is it's location ...a perfect place to stay, both for exploring downtown Auckland, which also makes it easy to arrange transportation anywhere else in the city you need to go. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby too. Would stay here again if in Auckland.
