This hotel is a gem. The property is beautiful, tucked away off the beaten path. On checking in, Jake, was efficient and very friendly. My king room was exceptionally large, clean, well appointed. This Marriott hasn’t moved to the refillable shampoos, etc. and I was glad. I loved the look of the lobby, restaurant and pool - southern charm at its best! One particular thing I noticed was how fresh and new the carpets looked. An A+ stay for me!
This is our 5th stay at this resort in 18 mths, and I keep waiting for a turn around, or maybe new mgmt/leadership that will right this ship. The resort has great facilities, and as you arrive you cant wait to take advantage of the pools, tennis, golf, etc..it's all there...thank goodness, cause you wont find any staff and if you do you better hoped someone new trained em. We arrived late on a Friday nite (not a home football weekend), to be told that even though we are Titanium liftime Marriott Rewards members of 35 years, that all room upgrades were gone due to a conf. group at the hotel and was given a room (I tagged it the ranger station), at least 30-40 rooms down the hall (conv. wing) from the main building..wasn't even sure we were in same hotel. I did mention at the time that when room assigments are done at well run properties that Bonvoy/Rewards members rooms are assigned prior to groups/blocks in order to reward the returning loyal Rewards members prior to conf attendees who come maybe once, well that fell on deaf ears..but hold that thought, we will get back to it.. Once we refused the ranger station location, we were able with help of Tonya (sp?), night MOD able to crawl our way back to room 229, bout half way back to main lodge, so we could at least see the facilities, she did offer $/points for the mess up, and we did ask to speak with the GM, yes, we are still waiting to hear from him, and this is the THIRD time we have requested him to contact us after previous substandard stays at this property plus no sign of the $ credit or points at check out. Well, the next day, we are leaving the property to go into Auburn to hunt for off campus housing for our son, I mention to the front desk that our room could use some attention, I was confronted by Jonathan in a combative tone, that we weren't satisfied with our room since we didn't get our upgrade. I promptly explained that our issues had nothing to do with the mess up on room upgrades but that the room needed refreshed bath towels, and that maintenance needs to visit the room due to peeling wall paper, broken tiles, and rust in the bathroom....plus house keeping as we had found someone's dirty underwear in our closet.. Well, you would think this would shock him into silence, but not Jonathan as he glared at us like we are the problem, and is currently training Jake at the front desk. This unfortunately is not our first run in the Jonathan, as he has been confrontational with my wife on previous stays...this issue could have been addressed prior to this posting but since senior managment is never seen at this property, you unfortumately have to post this on a forum like this. While we enjoy the facilities and the lovely natural surroundings of the resort, the Towne Place Suites/Courtyard in Auburn are vastly superior Marriott properties due to cleanliness, staff training, and managment....it is just so dissapointing, since this property could be one of Marriott's finest.
This is a strange review for me to write. The property of this hotel is gorgeous. It sits on I don’t know how many acres of beautiful land with amenities such as a highly regarded golf course, tennis courts and 3 swimming pools. The rooms, which I understand underwent a major renovation the past couple years, are very nice as well. These pluses are undone by some of the worst staff of any Marriott in which I have stayed; and I’ve stayed at a heck of a lot of Marriotts. The security staff think they’re stormtroopers from WW II. But the worst is the restaurant. I can’t think of any Marriott with a more disorganized restaurant staff-simply horrible. After 2 frustrating and disappointing meals at their restaurant, we drove to the nearby town for all our meals rather than subject ourselves to this Marriott’s restaurant. Given the beauty of this property it’s unfortunate to say I would not recommend staying here, but the staff are so bad they ruin any of the attributes of this hotel.
Stayed here several times and will begrudgingly continue to do so, only b/c the hotel itself is so nice. The food is a big problem though. Just awful. That's compounded by the fact that they insist you go sit outside in the 100-degree heat and order from their pool bar instead of opening their fully capable and otherwise operational indoor bar, steps away. Infuriating! This should be a 5-start rating. Do something about the poor food selection and for god's sake, open the indoor bar!
The room was not cleaned from the guests before...nasty, dirty sheets were still on the bed and the floor was disgusting. The air conditioner also stopped working the last day. Never will we ever go back there.
The hotel and amenities are amazing. The pool area is fantastic and the ability to fish is great. But, the mattresses need to be replaced...or maybe we got a bum room. But 3/5 of us woke up with stiff backs.
Stayed the weekend while playing golf in Opelika. My wife was along to enjoy the resort. Mistake! While the hotel is slowly responsible for guest this particular weekend was loaded with loud and missed behaved children. What's we learned is that the property offers local residents day passes for the pool. Meaning they are taking up spaces around the pool and bringing in a large number of non-guests that are expecting amenities. The 'adult' pool was not policed for unruly children. The hotels business center wasn't available. The printer wasn't working. Was told it would first be fixed shortly as staffing arrived apparently the never did. We were told it was handled by a third party by other on site staff. We asked if in the hotel office could print something and said they tried but the wifi wasn't working properly and we we told could receive emails... seriously???? The biggest kicker is my wife used the spa services and upon checking out... review of the bill someone changed the tip she had left in her charge ticket. The paper ticket was correct but in the bill it was altered for a larger tip. Stealing? Fraud? Not totally sure. It was corrected. But what could be happening to those that don't check as closely. I am a Titanium Marriott member and travel 150 nights a year and double check everything. One double check with this property is to never stay again.
Room was ok-a little dated, pictures on marriott web-site are deceiving, pool and back area were very nice. The service at the bar by the pool SUCKED! If you get Adam, Scott or Andie run the other direction. Adam is busy making sure he looks pretty, while Scott and Andie just stand at the corner of the bar doing nothing. There is a guy Christian that is pretty good, at least he pays attention to customers. I am an avid and frequent Marriott traveler. This place was disappointing. I even sent a message to someone via the app but never got a response. The golf courses down the road-not associated with this facility-were fantastic. I would highly recommend them all.
Wonderful room, wonderful spa, excellent staff, fun pool....requested a golf course view room in the newly built Links Wing on recommendation of a friend m, and it’s the way to go! Perfect staycation.
This property has a great deal of amenities that kept three teens entertained including tennis, bags, basketball, and even fishing. The pool area was fantastic with a family and adult only area. The rooms and bathroom were a good size and the outdoor balcony was enjoyable in the evening when it cooled off. The only negative is the food at the outdoor restaurant. The service was great, but we waited over an hour for burgers. The manager did not seemed concerned but the waitress kept apologizing. Breakfast had great food and service.
