Overall, the hotel was nice and clean. Beds were comfortable, and rooms were quiet at night for sleeping. Location was fantastic to explore all sites and restaurants. Staff was helpful. However, A/C unit did not cool the room the down. It is central air, and in our experience, these types never work strongly enough. The breakfast was adequate which included breads, pastries, meat and cheese. You could ask them to make a special coffee as well, however, service seemed slow for the amount of guests.
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Like many hotels in Italy, the rooms are smaller than what we would expect in the US. However, this room had a balcony with an amazing view, we had air conditioning, and the beds were clean and comfortable. All staff were incredibly kind to my friend and I, who were in Cortona to photograph a wedding July 29. One staff member in particular stood out; I wish I could remember his name, but he was (is) a gentleman in maybe his late 40's who not only spoke very good English, he also made a point to crack lighthearted jokes with us as we passed the front desk each day, and he was very helpful opening beer bottles for me one evening when I realized I had no bottle opener for the local craft beers I had just purchased! Breakfast is an amazing spread, and I couldn't get enough of the fresh fruit bowl and cheeses/meats that were set out. The coffee and milk (which is creamy whole milk) were both perfect, as they are everywhere in Italy (no crappy "hotel coffee" here!). The hotel is walking distance to everything in Cortona, and has beautiful views from the rooms and the breakfast area. The elevators are tiny and a bit scary, but they're quick. Just don't plan to put more than 2 people in one (maybe only one person if you're carrying luggage). We enjoyed our stay and I hope to come back again, bringing my children and husband next time!
Upon arriving in Cortona we were little lost to find Hotel San Luca? Nestled away from the main entrance of Cortona with no parking we found it? We booked in then asked where the parking was only to be told it was a mountain walk away but there is escalators to get back up from the carpark, in stinking hot heat the walk to the escalator was exhausting to say the least. The only access to the room was by 2 small lifts which took us 6 floors down as the other floors above were closed off. We went to our room to freshen up to find a dark small room with a little balcony over looking someones back yard. The room was old and smelly, safe didn't work the restaurant for breakfast was undesirable with little to no food to eat but the view was beautiful. The restaurant attached to the Hotel was not owned by the Hotel which was ashamed with such beautiful surroundings it lack hospitality, service and atmosphere we chose not to eat here.
My husband and I stayed at Hotel San Luca for three nights in June. First and foremost, the front desk staff was amazing. The two ladies at the desk were extremely helpful with all of our questions, reservations and random needs. They truly made the hotel a better place to stay. Our room was clean, but simple, with a nice bathroom and closed in shower. The view was absolutely amazing, even if the porch was tiny. The hotel has a hot tub/seating area on the lower level but the hot tub was out of commission and the seating area doesn't look to be used often. The wifi was decent and the location was great. The shuttle from the train station drops you right in front of the hotel and it's a quick walk to the town square.
We stayed for a while on summer holiday and wished we had gone for a more expensive hotel. This hotel would have been spectacular in 1980, but in 2017 it is just looking old and tired. Out bathroom door didn't close due to a worn down lock, the door to the balcony didn't really close and the shutters had broken hasps so they couldn't stay open. Beds are really hard, and the electrical outlets were falling out of the wall. The hotel seems to know this, as the backside of the DND sign is a list where you can mark what parts of your room needs maintenance. I've never seen that before, but I've also never met a hotel that needed it more. This doesn't bode well for other parts, and the elevators are the only elevators where I have ever felt unsafe. When I at one point was in the door while it wanted to close, it insisted on closing even after hitting me - normally an elevator would stop closing and open the door when meeting an obstruction. The view really is spectacular tho, and we would be back if this place ever underwent a top-to-bottom renovation and modernization.
I cannot fault this hotel.... Breathtaking view from our room, staff were friendly, food fabulous. Loved everything about the hotel and the area surrounding it. Fantastic value for money. Will be returning just as soon as we can.
We stayed here 1 night. The view was spectacular and the staff was lovely. The breakfast was tasty with a lovely breeze and wonderful view of the valley. Our ac wasn't working properly, just blew air, the bed and pillow felt like straw mats. If these things matter to you, might consider another spot but if imperfect sleeping conditions are less important than the view location and help, I'd recommend.
We stayed for four nights in March. Our desire was to stay in Cortona and work from the city with day trips. This is a nice if not old hotel. Staff was excellent, breakfast was passable. It is rated four star but is a good three star. We booked a room with a balcony over looking the valley. It was a million dollar view. Just to wake up each morning and sit on the patio with a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise and burn off the fog was worth the cost of the room. The location was accessible by car so it was easy to leave the hill top for our day trips. Cortona has a lot to offer and this is a good base of operation.
This was an amazing hotel at a very competitive price. Situated in a prime position on top of the hill with stunning views. We were fortunate to get a room with view over the countryside & lake below. Reception staff very welcoming & helpful. Will definitely return to this hotel on our next visit.
We have travelled extensively and what brings us the most joy is exploring on foot and relaxing on a balcony looking out. Tears came to my eyes when I saw the view from our balcony of the valley below and buildings down the hillside. True inner peace. Hotel was very nice, good breakfast and very kind staff. I am amazed to see that anyone could complain about anything here. Part of the reason Cortina jumped into our top 5 list of all places ever visited was because of the time we spent at this hotel. Thank you so much.
