Stayed here for 3 nights on a Leger Coach holiday. Room excellent lovely traditional furniture, comfortable beds. Buffet style food was excellently. Bar and lounge areas traditional decor. Staff friendly and efficient.
I stayed here in February half term for a weeks skiing. Being my 1st time in Andorra, I wasn't sure which resort to choose and ended up in Canillo solely based on availability at this hotel. Re the hotel, we stayed on a B&B basis which I would recommend. The breakfast choice is varied and quality isvery good. It can get a little busy at peak times but it was never a problem. We also ate in the restaurant one night which was good also with a variety of choices available from the buffet. Our room was very nice. A good size with lovely bathroom. The maids came every day and room was cleaned, fresh towels etc. English is not spoken by all of the hotel staff but it was never really a problem. Bruno on front desk spoke great English and was extremely helpful. He also arranged lift passes and ski hire once we arrived which saved a lot of time and hassle. Camilo is not very busy and night life is very limited. There were a few restaurants and bars but no apres ski environment. The ski lift is about a 5 -10 minute stroll from the hotel which was very handy. Also, if you use the ski hire firm via the hotel you can leave your skis, poles, boots etc in the shop overnight which is based right next to the main gondola. Camilo links to El Tarter which in turn links to Soldeu and Pas de la Casa. To get to El Tarter, you take the main Canillo Gondola and then a 2nd chairlift followed by choice of blue or red runs into El Tarter. The blue run is not challenging but would be no good for a total beginner. During our stay, we had 2 windy days. On each day, we could not get back to Canillo by ski, as the chairlift back was closed due to high winds. I believe this is quite common as the lift runs along an exposed ridge (great views on the calm, clear days). This meant we had to take the bus which was very busy and not a pleasant crush. You have to pay fare and then reclaim it from the lift operator showing your bus tickets. I would stay at this hotel again if I am ever in Andorra. I would also consider skiing again in the Pyrenees which made a nice change from previous Alpine holidays. A friendly well-run hotel with good food and amenities. Well located except on the windy days.
The Hotel Ski Plaza is friendly comfortable and perfect for a few days skiing. The rooms were a nice size, beds were comfortable, Bathroom was good although you had to be quite precise with the shower to get the perfect balance between cold & scorching hot water but once worked out it was a pleasure after a day skiing. The buffet of hot and cold food was extensive and good in the main. If I was going to be critical the hot food was only really hot if you got to it straight away. The bar was comfortable for a few drinks and a game of cards in the evening and to talk about the days skiing and planning the next adventure. Its a short walk to the cable car to get you to the slopes but the ski shop will also let you hire skis and leave them there overnight to save carrying them back to the hotel's boot room. We had excellent snow conditions and lovely weather so didn't see much else of Canillo the lifts were great never that busy. We skied to Pas de la Casa from Canillo and explored all the linked areas of El Tartar, Soldeu, Grau Roig. Andorra's Pyrennes are certainly much better value for money than the Alpes. I would certainly love to come back and would recommend the Hotel Ski Plaza to small groups of family & friends.
It is a good option if you go in a ski holidays. The access to the ski resort it is near, however you have to go walking with all your stuff and depending on the weather it could be hard. The staff are friendly and hepful. The food is nice and the rooms are quite well.
Agree with other reviewers that this is a good choice for skiing and staff is helpful and friendly, with aforementioned Bruno the star of the reception almost 24/7. Ski Plaza boasts 5 stars but rather 4 stars. You will have to request the higher service level and it will happen. All in all we were happy with our stay - although as other reviewers mention it's far from peaceful - but there are numerous useful things to know to make it good. At breakfast you may have excellent real Espresso or Capuccino - but you won't be informed about it. Instead pre-brewed coffee is made available with not additional notice. Same goes for gluten free and allergen options. Change of linens is made only if you request it - even for a full week's stay. (Weird for a hotel boasting 5 stars). However, if you request it - it can be even daily. Additionally you should request upon check-in that you want the minibar replenished with clean glasses - unless doing so, housekeeping under the management of duty manager Raquel they will leave you with dirty glasses for an entire week. Unless you need to book ski rental in advance through any of the online rental brokers, make use of the hotel's cooperation with Pic Negre in the nearby Cabin Lift. In addition to a discount you will have free access to their convenient lockers just by the lift - saves you a lot of ski and boot carrying. Pic Negre are fluent in multiple languages and are very helpful and will make your stay just better. Dinners at Ski Plaza are somewhat bland and you are better off with any of the nearby local restaurants which offer more value and a wider range. Prepare minor language challenges though, unless you speak Catalan. Restaurants in Canillo are closed on Monday nights. Buy your lift passes for Grandvalira at the hotel - same price and avoid any waiting in lines. No need to book in advance. (Beware, the return cabin to Canillo can have long waiting lines late in the afternoon). Wifi - yes it does exist but you'd better be by the staircase or by the lobby. Evenings you will find the lobby full of adults trying to do an after ski (since facilities for this do not exist in Canillo) and youth using their smartphones. No Wifi in rooms unless you travel with a huge antenna. Excellent beds - really comfortable, which was a positive surprise. We would not hesitate to come back, but hope management improves its housekeeping principles.
Fantastic, friendly hotel with amazing staff. This hotel is situated in the heart of the village a 2 minute walk from the ski lift.. The food is varied and very tasty, the rooms are spacious and well equipped and very clean. Highly recommended, Bruno was extremely helpful and friendly.
Do not come here for a peaceful stay. This hotel is far from what's advertised. The restaurant is canteen standard only and with paper thin walls you'll struggle to get any sleep. The only thing five star about this place are the staff who are hard working and very friendly. Canillo lacks atmosphere, there is no apres to be found on or off mountain; the sprinkling of local bars appear to be for locals only. That said, if you can suffer the smoking, they do make you very very welcome. Very much a family hotel and resort for French families. Oh well.
Spent a week here from the 21st Jan 2017 with friends and family ,Smiles all the way what a fantastic hotel, perfectly situated for ski hire and lifts ( beginner friendly slopes ) . Meals are buffet style 5 star ,something for every palette , even small details ,, hot soup available in the foyer all afternoon lovely and warming after a time on the slopes The staff are all so friendly and help full beyond the call of duty ,I /we would not hesitate to recommend to friends and will definitely stay again
We have just returned from a 5 night ski break here. Points I would find helpful when looking into a hotel are. Friendly staff - the staff in reception could not do enough for us there was 2 young gentleman Bruno and a another with auburn hair who could not of been more helpful for first time skiers and for any issues that did arise during our stay (only 2 issues and one was not the hotels fault) Rooms are clean and large with dressing gowns and bathroom supplies aplenty. We arrived later then expected and found room service in our room. The spa and gym is not big at all but more then enough if you've been out skiing all day. Food. Can not fault the food. So much choice even the fussiest of eaters would find something. I have read one review and agree that cards with food descriptions would be good. Also 8pm service could be late for some people but if you are skiing all day and have a late lunch like we did every day then this worked well for us. I never found a rush at 8pm or ques. Always hot soup and fresh fruit in reception to welcome you back from the slopes. The town is very quite and we only found one bar outside the hotel that we used. But the hotel bar is suitable and not badly priced. My husband is diabetic type 1 and did struggle with them not having slim line tonic but when he mentioned this Bruno he was fully sympathetic and agreed the hotel should serve this option unfortunately this was going into Friday which is a bit of a shut down day. The skiing is very close no more than a 5 minute walk to the gondolas and ski hire place that we used and again staff more than helpful.
We just returned from a 3 night stay at the hotel, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I believe it is a great place for a short ski stay. No more that a five minute walk to the Canillo gondola, which is extremly convenient. Great value for money too. Staff was great and extremly friendly, starting with the warm welcome at almost 2am at night when we arrived. Dont't be fooled by its five stars, it is definitely not a five star hotel other than on paper, but it created a warm five star atmosphere which is what you need when coming back from the slopes. We would stay here again if we were to return to Andorra. Canillo itself is a very small and pleasant resort, but this made the gondola and its slopes absolutely free of queues, especially compared to the other resorts in Grandvallira we skied in. On the other hand, it is quite a distance away from the slopes in Soldeu and especially those in Pas de la Casa, so if you want to enjoy the full valley, a more central location (or close to Funicamp) may be advisable.
