This is a very modern hotel and just outside of the main stretch. It offers a boat ride into town how ever times are limited. We took a short walk to train station as this was a better option. Unfortunately unless you are not worried about doing much being closer to town would be a better option! We did not eat or drink at this hotel but I'm sure it would have been lovely.
The location is "off the beaten track", there is nothing nearby other than a car dealer. This means you have no choice but to eat in the hotel for breakfast. It has everything you expect from a hotel of this rating including a nice bar. The metro into town is about 8 minutes walk, the trains run every 10 minutes so you can be in town in half an hour but can't pop home in the day for a change. However that said it was a lot cheaper than other similar hotels.
Stayed here Thursday 20 April until Sunday. Had free shuttle from the airport to the hotel arrived just after a coach full of guests but checked in quickly. We were given lots of info breakfast times buses into town and prices etc. All reception staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Room was on ground floor with everything we needed and very quiet. On Sunday we took shuttle back to airport, unfortunately my friend left her handbag on the shuttle but one phone call to the hotel and within 10 minutes the shuttle had returned bringing the handbag. Thank you so much we had a fantastic time. We would recommend this hotel.
Overall the weekend was excellent, the Mercure was a bit far from the city centre.overall the review would have been a 5 but housekeeping let it down on a couple of occasions such as leaving the room half clean complained but no real answer
Quiet and clean hotel. Conveniently access to city center. The service was good except that a little bit long check in line. I got a welcome drink and late check out as an ACCOR Loyalty Member which gave me very satisfied.
This hotel was such a good find. Was worried it was going to be too far from the center but we don't mind travelling. In fact it is literally 6 or 7 minutes from the metro station that takes you straight to central station where you can get every transport you need. The hotel itself was lovely, looked great when we walked in and felt like we were really treating ourselves. Lots of area to sit and have a drink or some food around the bar (which actually wasn't that expensive considering the chain of the hotel). The staff were all lovely. Xaim who checked us in was very bubbly and a great start to the weekend. The room was lovely, very spacious and clean. Only a couple of issues. The aircon wasn't very good. We went in April and although it wasn't that warm we like it to be quite cool which wasn't great. Can only imagine it would be more of an issue in summer. Second issue, the door to the bathroom was a sliding door and it seemed like it didn't close all the way. Those are the only issues though. Would highly recommend for someone not wanting to pay an arm and a leg for city center accommodation because you definitely wouldn't find a nice hotel like this for the price in the center.
The hotel was utterly excellent, perfect location with a very short walk to the train station and then a short 15min hope on the train into the centre of Amsterdam. The hotel staff could not have been more information and helpful from the reception staff to the bar and restaurant staff and also the cleaners - our room was cleaned and immaculate each day. Nico on reception was a real star on information of where to go in and around Amsterdam and organising our bike hire. The hotel has bike hire on site and the bike were brand new and very good price for 24hr rate. we managed to cycle for 23miles around Amsterdam and so easy to start and finish at the hotel. The food was excellent and breakfast you could not have wanted any more, all freshly prepared and refreshed when empty and a huge variety on offer There is nothing at all wrong with this hotel, its staff, food or location - utterly perfect on all fronts. The only thing wrong is the utterly idiotic comments guest have made on previous reviews about having to walk the very short distance to the train station - unless you have disabilities issues for goodness sake you are staying at a city hotel where you are visiting a city that you will walk around - it took us no longer than a 10min slow stroll at worst to reach the station then hop onto a train and 15mins later you are smack bang in the centre of Amsterdam ---jeez you may as well stay at home if you can't walk that short distance - get a grip people this is a cracking hotel and a great value could not ask for more
We got in early from our cruse, and was told we could not get our room before 2 ,but that we needed to check in now ,or we wool loose our room after 5 pm .So they check us in ,and checked our bags , so we could go in to town. The man that check us in was very helpful ,showed us the metro map ,were we needed to go, and sold us a card. All is good up to here.(there was some problems at check in , but it was other rude people that were checking out. Not the staff .) The walk to the metro is ( for people that walk a slow pace) is about 15 min. The walk is not the greatest ,the sidewalk is uneven, you can't walk down the bike path , for fear of getting hit, and there is grafeaty every were. Makes you fill like you are in a bad neighbor hood. You are not close to the city center like the name says, it's a 10 min ride on the metro to city center. When we got back to pick up are room key, after already checking in, was asked all the questions again.like we were checking in for the first time.went to get our bags out of the check in, and they just opened the door and had us dig them out. No help or a cart to take the bags to the room. Got to the room door is heavy and hard to open, and the room was very small ( not the rooms you see in the pictures ) the room on our cruise was bigger then this room. I think the bigger rooms are for the primer guest only. I think if I was a kid backpacking Europe this room would have been great. The room was small so by the time you get your suitcase in there you don't have room to move. One person has to move so the other one can get around. the bathroom was small ,had no washcloth ,and the drain in the shower had a cover ,and it would come off, and cause you to slip in the shower. It has a fridge, but for coffee you have to heat up water and use instance coffee. As far as the restaurant ,not impressed there , they were slow to help us ,never check to see if we needed anything . Would have to track them down to get something. The food was ok, but the service is made it bad. The breakfast was all self serve . Food was ok. Have had way better choices at lesser hotels. Check out was quick, but after reading other review , i am going to keep a close eye on my bill. Now I am going to wright a review for my travel agent for putting me in this hotel.
Highly recommend this Mercure hotel. Although it is in the outskirts of Amsterdam it is only a 5 minute walk to the metro and 15 minutes into the centre of Amsterdam. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was a good size and comfortable. Breakfast and evening meals were very good. We have stayed in menu Mercure hotels and this was one of the best.
I've stayed in many a Travelodge and Premier Inn and would rate them over this very disappointing hotel. Cons Paper cups to drink the single coffee or tea provided in the room. Room not entered on the second day so the bin wasn't emptied or toilet roll replaced. Furniture looked very dusty and overall the room felt tired. Mini bar fridge empty, dirty and not turned on. Pros Friendly staff Free WiFi to write this review Safe
