A vacation in Amsterdam was enhanced by staying at the Memphis Hotel near the Concertgebouw as well as Museum Square, a neighborhood of fine town houses and restaurants. The hotel's bathroom was poorly situated and the toilet was placed in a very narrow area. Too bad the extra closet (there were three for two of us) could not have been used to expand the bathroom. Otherwise the king-size bed was very comfortable and the room was a good size. There was a very small lobby with coffee for guests at two euros, a slight inconvenience. But it was real coffee, not the instant-type in the room. We did not try the 15-euro breakfast the hotel provides since there was an excellent breakfast place a half block away. Trams and buses were situated nearby and got us to where we wanted to go. On balance, while actually a two to three star hotel and not a four-star one as it's called, it was a nice place to stay.
Requested a room with twin beds arrived to a very small room with a small full sized bed ( room booked by two pretty good sized guys) staff corrected the error the next day but that first night wasn't fun. All in all a decent hotel. Great location in a quiet area (very safe) close to the museums and not that far from the tourist areas.
Staff were extremely helpful friendly & polite. A bit far from the city center but with public transport, trams & buses stopping just feet from the hotel, makes up for it.great that they have an electric kettle in the room for you to make a up of coffee or tea. Bathroom had no vent so after a shower bath mirror & even the windows are fogged up!
I celebrated my 30th birthday in Amsterdam with friends from all over, and this hotel was conveniently located to places to eat and visit. The room size was awesome, and I would definitely stay there again.
The hotel in my opinion Is probably more like a U.S. 2.5 or 3 star. Not particularly luxurious but decent and clean. Room Was Very Small. Tv stations are only in dutch. The heat is by radiator which didn't work upon my arrival but someone came and fixed it. The heat went out again a few days later and I was given an electrical radiator.
The best hotel if you know your way around the city.
The room was very comfortable and cozy. Loved the mini-fridge and great wi-fi connection. The bathroom was nice with a deep tub to soak in. The surrounding area is fantastic with great bakeries, organic food stores, restaurant, and an awesome butchery that served the best deli meats I have had. Also cannot beat the tram stop about a block away that will take you right into the heart of Amsterdam. I must say the staff was friendly and very welcoming. I loved that they sold 3 day tram tickets and they had recommendations on where to eat. There was always someone available at the front desk. They also had maps available of the city, which came in handy. Also can't miss all the discount cards the hotel offers for many attractions. Lastly, getting the room cleaned every day was nice! Overall, I plan on returning here next time I visit Amsterdam! Great price, enjoyable stay, super location!
Location was great with tram stop near by to make easy access to all parts of the city. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful for our needs.
The number one reason I loved my stay here was because of the location. Right next to the museum area and about 15 mins. from Leidesplain, it's really easy to get around with a lot of great places for tourists in both those locations.
The hotel was very nice, clean, and welcoming. The location is a little off from the main city which I enjoyed but you can take the bus or a tram car anywhere. Overall it was great and I would definetly stay there again when I come back to Amsterdam.
This hotel is in a really nice neighborhood, and close to the museums which we visited in Amsterdam. The 16 tram which passes in front of the hotel made everything accessible. We loved our Amsterdam stay.
We liked this hotel very much. I prefer accommodations which are nice looking, comfortable, clean, and fit in, somewhat, with a cities' style. This hotel was such a place. The neighborhood is great, and the surrounding restaurants are nightly gathering places for the friendly locals. The Tram stop is only one block away. The only thing I could complain about would be their breakfast buffet which consisted of a few not so great items.......
Upon arrival to the hotel I was told they had no room for me. It was the last thing I wanted to hear, after an exhausting 12 hours trip. They send me to a different hotel (Delphi) near by, and the paid for the taxi ride. They claimed it was an equivalent hotel, but I could not tell because I had not stayed at Memphis hotel. I was charged the same amount, which I though it was much, since I also had to pay 10E for breakfast and 75.5E "tourist tax".
Stayed in room #511 small room with a double bed. Nice clean room and clean bathroom. There was a desk and chair perfect for 1 person also a refrigerator and a iron. Nice quiet residential area about 1 Km from the museums. Use either tram #2 or #16 about a five minute walk to the hotel. There are a handful of cafes and a small organic supermarket within walking distance of the hotel. Worked perfectly for me, i'd stay there again.
It was a cute hotel, small with small room but it was perfect for me. I didn't spend much time in the hotel. I took the 16 train everywhere I needed to go or I walked. It's about 10-15 minute ride from Dam Square. The hotel is in a Nice neighborhood with the locals and quite. Shopping And coffee near by. Friendly helpful staff
Stayed for 4 days in January, which is not exactly the ideal time to visit Amsterdam. The purpose of my visit was to move my daughter to Amsterdam so that she can study for a semester as part of a student exchange program. This hotel was very good. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was large enough for two - albeit with double beds. No dual queen or king size beds, at least not with the package I booked. The location is great - several restaurants within a two block walk. There is also a great little pub a block away that I wish I would have found the first night. Several Tram/Bus stops are 1-2 blocks away, as well. I should disclose that we must have had a mouse in our room one night. I had read about mouse issues at the Memphis, so it was not entirely unexpected. I never saw the mouse, but something was working hard to get into our bags in the middle of one night. We ended up leaving the bathroom light on - which left it dark enough to sleep, but directed enough light into the room that the mouse was scared off. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, only because of the aforementioned mouse. But because it was only an issue for about 30 minutes one night, and because it was not unexpected, I kept the review at 4 stars, because everything else was very good.
We just returned from a great vacation in Amsterdam, we stayed at the Memphis hotel which I highly recommend for its location, walking distance to the museums, about 10 minutes, room size and comfort, and the price was right. I would definitely choose this hotel again!
Good quiet location, about 15-20 minutes into to the city by Tram or you can rent a bike through the hotel. The museum is a 10 minute walk or two stops on Tram 16. Public transit is cheap 7.50 euros for a day pass. There are spot to eat at the circle down the street from the hotel, a small organic market, and a boutique shop. It's a perfect spot resting after being in the city center. The hotel staff is friendly and they all speak very good English. However the WiFI is very slow with a poor connection. The hotel is pretty clean, I didn't experience any issues with cleanliness. Not bad all.
Great hotel if you get a really nice deal! Perfect location, 17 minutes away from the Central Station. There is no pillow menu, and had to sleep on pretty deflated pillows. No damage done, but made our vacation a little strained.
The hotel had a great location, only a block away from a tram. The neighborhood is really posh, and there are a lot of decent places to eat as well.
