Golden Tulip Amsterdam West

Very nice hotel but would prefer a hotel closer in to the central part of Amsterdam. Although the hotel staff members were excellent, the hotel manager was poor. Was very noisy the first night of our stay due to some party in the rec. room right below our hotel room. As a result my wife and I had little sleep that night. Other than an offer to change rooms, hotel management would offer no consideration for not having a quite night. The manager could not accept the fact that my wife and I did not receive what we paid for - a quite night. Moving rooms for our last night would not resolve the previous night noise issue and was not worth the effort.

At room 340 you can smell all the food made by the restaurant. It s like staying in a kitchen. I asked to change the room or to have a refund. They changed to the tulip inn (worst hotel) in a worst room in front of sex shop and bars.. They changed me from a 4stars to a 3starts hotel without compensation. I asked a quite room. Then they changed me to a better room, althougt it was too old.

I did not use wi-fi, so 1 rating above should be not applicable.

This is my first trip out of the U.S. and this hotel was the best experience for the most modest price range The buffet was absolutely amazing and I would stay here every time if I go back

A little bid far from center station... it cost about Euro 30 by taxi...

The room was way larger than expected, completely satisfied with the room and hotel. The only negative was you needed to take public transportation to center city but once we got the hang of it we were Ok with it. Would stay in this hotel and would definately recommend it to all.

First off, they claimed not to have ajvaukable rooms burnout was different online. Then they had a bad attitude sending me to their sister hotel without as much as a genuine apology.

Great hotel for a great price! Spacious rooms with nice furniture, and just a short tram ride from the city center, but far enough to be quiet.

Good location. Close to tram and excellent Chinese restraurant.

Worth for your money, nearby tram station (100m) and 800m to Sloterdijk train station. Delicious for dinner with decent price (10 off if reservation before 4pm)

After paying 4 star prices for a room at the Golden Tulip I expected a pleasant experience and friendly staff. Boy was I in for a surprise. The check in receptionist was downright rude, demanding payment for the city tax that wasn't included in the billing. I happily paid in full, and proceeded to my room. The receptionist failed to explain that the room key was required to turn on everything in the room, which should have been explained first thing instead of pushing tour maps on weary travelers checking in. At check out, another rude receptionist tried to charge me again for the city taxes, literally calling me a liar when I protested I had already paid upon check in. Patronizing, rude, and downright nasty perfectly describes the service aspect of the hotel.

Nice hotel, just a bit too far away from the center.

Loved the location. Across the street from the local tram and just down the road from the main train station. Hotel is very nice and the rooms are great. Staff is soso, borderline uppity. Great if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of the central Dam area.

My friends and I spent one night of our month-long trip here. It was one of the nicest places we stayed in and cost the least of them all. The location is just a mile or two from downtown Amsterdam and short walk from the train that took us downtown. The man at the desk helped my friends find a laundramat to wash their clothes. The only thing that would have improved our stay would have been to include breakfast. The entire day is improved greatly when foreigners like myself don't have to think about where to get breakfast.

The hotel was a quick walk from our commuter train which we took from Rotterdam so that was very convenient! The hotel is half a block away from the tram which we realized quickly were at the end of. This wasn't too much of a hassle as it didn't take long to get into the main parts of the city. The staff in general were a bit dismissive but I couldn't tell if this was due to a language barrier? The first hotel clerk we spoke to seemed very annoyed that we arrived so early. He even said that other guests who KNOW they are arriving so early will book an extra day. To that we replied that there was no way of knowing how long it would take to travel from our ferry port to a train, train to Rotterdam, Rotterdam to Amsterdam...He didn't seem to care about this response, and this attitude made our entry to Amsterdam a little less than welcoming. All in all, the hotel was great! Just make sure you arrive EXACTLY at the time of your reservation and leave the moment it expires or you'll "hear it" from the staff.

We needed a room for 3, which is hard to find in Amsterdam. Our room was very spacious and modern, especially the bathroom with heated floor and nice shower. The biggest down side is that it is a bit of a hike to the city center, maybe 15-20 minutes on the tram. There is also almost nothing within walking distance of the hotel (all apartments and places of employment). The two things they did have within walking distance were quite helpful, however: A good Chinese restaurant and a grocery store.

I booked this hotel with three other friends and had a great stay. The hotel itself is wonderful, but quite far from Amsterdam's main attractions. It is not exactly in the ideal location for University students on holiday in Holland, so this could mean this hotel is quite perfect for you if you are a business traveler, traveling with children, etc.

Excellent hotel if you don't want to stay in the noise and bustle of Amsterdam Centre. Hotel is well situated near Sloterdijk Station with a tram stop (#12) across the street. Comfortable quiet rooms and very good buffet breakfast and dinner - not cheap but well worth the money. Buy a transit pass at the hotel - direct route to Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, one transfer to Dam Square, Anne Frank Huis, or Central Station. Would definitely stay at this hotel next time in Amsterdam.

I stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel was awesome. I checked in and they upgraged me to a nice room, really nice beds, and set up. The food at the DREAM restaurant, in the Hotel, was really good too. I don't eat breakfast to I did not try it. I drink the coffe in the room which was free. My mini bar did not work at first but they fixed it within seconds of me calling. Also, the rooms are clean and no smoking allowed so room have a really clean smell. The only con was the location, which is at about 15 minute tram (metro/train) to the city center but it was very easy to use and the stop is within 1 minute from the hotel. Staff went out of their way to help me everytime I had a question a concern.

The hotel was very comfortable and clean. The room we had was spacious and the beds were comfortable. I also thought the breakfast was very good. Only down side is that it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get to the center of Amsterdam but the tram is very convenient. We were mostly sightseeing so we left in the morning and came back at night. We were able to get the train to the airport when we left which was very convenient.
