When booking this hotel, I was unsure what to expect. The reviews were very mixed. Despite this, the pictures looked nice and the location looked brilliant. As it was just myself and a friend, the location was the most important thing. The room we had booked was a small double room. Both the bed and the room were a lot smaller than first thought. In the pictures it looked rather spacious, but in reality that wasn’t the case. The breakfast was a basic continental breakfast. My friend and I opted to eat our breakfast elsewhere because of this. Though, we were in central Amsterdam so we weren’t short of options! The location of the hotel is the best part. It’s virtually next door to Dam Square and only a short walk from the RLD and other main attractions. Amsterdam Central is a 10 minute walk. The staff are also extremely friendly and were always willing to help. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are going for the sites and entertainment. I would not recommend if you are going for relaxation and comfort.
Nice hotel, good value considering and location couldn't be better. Would return. Staff were extremely helpful. One downfall was construction going on outside our room on the main road was very loud. However, this is not the hotels fault.
The location of this hotel is incredible, everything you need is no more than a 5 minute walk away (if that) and if you do need a tram, there is stop right outside the hotel. There’s also a few lovely bars and restaurants over the road. I’ve seen reviews saying there’s loads of noise if you are in a front facing room, we were and didn’t find it noisy at all. We booked a small double room, but I didn’t find it that small, it was ideal for our stay. The bathroom was big enough and incredibly modern and the beds were comfy too. My only complaints are that during our stay they didn’t change our bed sheets, only turned them over, which was obvious to us as they were stained. Lastly, the rooms are freezing cold to the point where it is unbearable. There is a heating control bit in your room that you are apparently not meant to touch, so we asked reception twice to turn on the heating and twice they ‘forgot’. So if you’re staying here, I suggest bringing jumpers.
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was dirty. Very dirty with disgusting carpets that I didn't want to walk on without shoes on. Inside the room was extremely cold. I slept in thermals and had my coat on when in the room. So uncomfortable and the staff could have cared less. I hated it and for the price it is unbelievably bad. I am really shocked that it has any good reviews at all. I was going to take photographs as it was so bad but see someone has already posted some. Believe me this is one hotel to be avoided. We booked it for the location but it wasn't worth the compromise in any way. My best advice is avoid and be suspicious of good reviews. They're baffling to me.
Travelled to Amsterdam in October with my husband and stayed here for 3 nights. The room was so small that we both could not be in the bathroom at the same time to clean our teeth. It's literally just a bed, toilet and TV. I was also not impressed with the cleanliness, it was very dusty, had markings on the pillows and bed sheet and the curtains were badly stained. There was some good highlights, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was spot on. I wouldn't stay here again when I visit Amsterdam next year.
Was worried after reading so many negative reviews , but I’m glad we ignored them! The hotel is in a fab central location so worth every penny. The staff were friendly and helpful, we got to check in our room early on the day we arrived. The room itself was small and no view but clean overall. Yes the hallways are dated and a bit rough round the edges. A few scrapes on the walls in the room but would expect it as the room so tiny! It was quiet whilst we were there really but the walls are not very thick so you can hear through , didn’t bother us though. It was only a bed for the night , sometimes not even that as Amsterdam sights meant we were out until the early hours. We had room 405. Only there for a 2 night stay but towels were changed and room made up. Would stay here again.
I could go on and on but I think the photographs tell you all you need to know!! On a positive note...yes the lift worked and yes the wi-if worked.....if you like nasty smells and utter filth this is the place to visit!!
My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of October to celebrate his birthday. This hotel is in an excellent location, it is right in the centre of Amsterdam, a stones throw from Dam Square, and we found it incredibly close to everything. The rooms are tiny but this should be expected considering the hotel is slap bang in the centre of the city. Despite the rooms being small they are very modern, clean and have been designed in such a way that makes best use of the space available. At no point did we feel the need to complain or have an issue about the size of the rooms. The beds are comfortable. Housekeeping is regular and efficient, we had no problems with cleanliness. I can also confirm that we booked a double room and received a double bed and the lift does work. The hotel, like most in Amsterdam, has the added advantage that you can book the majority of excursions from the front desk at a discounted price and they will print off your confirmation for you. We found all the staff friendly and helpful and I would without a doubt recommend this hotel and I would stay here again. We read the reviews on TripAdvisor before travelling and will admit that we were slightly worried reading the negative reviews however it would appear that people are more inclined to write a bad review than a positive. So long as you take the hotel for what it is and do not expect a 4/5 star you will be happy.
The hotel was ok in it self. But there was allways alot of noise outside my room. Someone vacuuming, og slamming doors at all times. And something that sounded like someone walking around in heels ALL THE TIME! The room was ok. Very small, and the airconditioning didn’t really work. But very close to everything, so not too bad all in all.
Location is great and the room was very clean. The staff were also perfect and very welcoming. But the double bed we got was two singles pushed together, the wifi wasn't in the rooms only at reception, and also the hotel doesn't have any smoking rooms... in Amsterdam!!! 420/1000 rating
