i booked me & my partner to stay at the armada hotel through booking.com & didnt look at the reviews until after we'd booked & became pretty worried as some of the photos were awful & some really bad reviews but the hotel was amazing for what we needed! small (we say cosy) & very up to date rooms so if you see any of the older looking dormitory looking rooms ignore them as they arent like that (not sure if its had a massive revamp). we had clean towels everyday & the location is walking distance from red light/dam square etc. we had a delightful stay & would without a doubt come here & stay again for sure!!
I hate to be so negative, but the hotel really did ruin my time in amsterdam. Good points. The location was good. 5 min tram from centraal- tram station right outside the door. Vending machine in lobby (although out of order half our stay) And the bad... -Our room was in the cellar basically. -Bikes and cars chained to our 'window' / parked right outside. -room very dark and depressing. - shower literally soaks the whole bathroom, then drips down onto the bedroom floor puddling up. - mold and damp all around the room, down the walls etc. - VERY VERY noisy!!!!! window is paper thin and can see daylight through it- with it being so close to the center a lot of human and vehicle traffic passing, woken up both nights we stayed by loud drunken conversations around 5/6am. - mugs had mold in them and only one sugar and tea bag, not that we would of used the mugs anyway! -390 gbp for 2 nights for this room. Fair to say i was less than impressed. - hairs on the pillows upon arrival and the floors hadnt been cleaned prior to our arrival. - towels didnt get replaced, just hung back up, -Girlfriends folded clothes were screwed up on the dressing table???
We were worried after some of the reviews but also not sure if the hotel has good/ bad rooms.. we had a canal view room, they are a bit on the small side but very clean/ modern decor. Easy access to everything, great find :)
This was a great hotel it was very central. Round the corner from Rembrandt Square and the xtracold icebar. Not far away from everywhere else by tram. Easy to get to from the airport as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful, there is no breakfast at this hotel but there is a cafe right round the corner. It also turns into a bar at night. The rooms were nice and clean, a bit outdated but the location made up for it. Great place if you only have a short stay as you can get to everywhere very swiftly.
Me and my friend found this hotel through booking.com literally last minute when we booked a spontaneous 2 night Amsterdam break. We were a bit reluctant to book it due to all the negative reviews but considering the price 70pp for 2 nights and the fact we didn’t plan on being in the room much, we just booked it. When we got to the hotel we couldn’t believe how lucky we were to be staying somewhere as close to the centre!! It’s a 2 minute walk to all the bars restaurants, and the tram is on your door step. The hotel it’s self was so clean, and tidy and modern. Perfect for what you need. Reception staff were also so welcoming and polite. I highly recommend staying here!! The location is everything. Will deffo be returning to this hotel Recommendations - the sports bar in the centre where the hotel is, is lovely for food in the day and reasonably priced. Think it’s called martins social club. Also we found a really nice Italian which was amazing - think that was called de Nieuwe pilserij. It’s near the sex museum and all the shops down a little side street! Please go.
Stayed here 2 nights. Only good thing was location. A 5 minute tram ride to Central Station. The room needed a good clean/decor, dust everywhere, damp on ceiling, paint coming off and the heating didn't work properly! Bathroom smelt of smoke! Very basic hotel if you just want a bed to sleep on book this, otherwise if you expect more don't bother!
really close to everything so great for location. rooms were ok but could do with a proper deep clean. we had the room right at the back where everyone goes to the little yard to smoke so got woken a few times. it snowed horrifcly whilst we were there so took refuge in the little bar on the corner a few times. hotels ok but reception staff are miserable.
As far as I'm concerned, when you go on a city break, you are there to see the city, not the hotel room! This being said, I have no complaints! My boyfriend and I stayed in the Armada hotel in August 2017 for his birthday! We wanted to spend most of our pennies on good food (and beer!!) so I opted for a cheaper alternative in terms of accommodation. I agree, the room is basic, however we had a stunning view of the canal (I do believe I paid around £10 extra for the privilege!) which made up for it! Room was nice and clean! Exactly what we needed! We didn't often get back until 11pm and left again in the morning around 10am! So us personally simply used the room for sleeping!! The hotel is also super central. We got one train from the airport and then walked from the train station to this hotel which only took around 15 minutes! With some help from google maps of course!! It is right near remembrant square with loads of great places to eat and drink! As well as a Starbucks for your familiar fix. Super happy with the location, room and service :) if you are looking for somewhere safe to stay while exploring an amazing city, then look no further!!
We hadn't originally booked this hotel, they took us in when we found ourselves in Amsterdam hotel-less! So glad we didn't book in advance as I probably wouldn't have booked but we loved the hotel. Yes the rooms are small, and some of the communal areas are a bit dates but it's relatively clean, the staff are friendly, and the place next door does a fabulous breakfast so what more can you ask for in a 2 star hotel?
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel on our first visit to Amsterdam! We had an amazing time and loved the location of the hotel as there was a little cafe next door that served through the night (alcohol wise!). The hotel itself was lovely too! Very clean and quite modern. The rooms were slightly on the small side but we were only on the room to sleep and shower so not an issue for us at all! I would recomend this place to everyone!
