We were on our way home from Branson, MO and Story City is a comfortable days drive from Branson. We have stayed there many times and will stay there in the future.
We arrived after 8 and was greeted by a friendly and helpful desk clerk. He was a treat to work with in checking in. My husband and I both commented on how good he was.
After 9 hours of driving i made a mistake on my plate number..owner was a real jerk about it. Sad because i stay here 3 to 4 times a year..no one needs to be treated like a crook..more super 8's down the road. He doesn't appreciate customers..in general most are o.k. never stay here again....sad
Nice, clean, comfortable stay. A bit pricey we thought for a one night stay and using AARP discount--still over $100. Great that they had dog room for a fee. Left at 715 am--desk and dining area dark, no one around, no breakfast set up. Left our key on desk.
The only problem was location was a little far from Iowa State University. Service was what made it worth the longer ride to and from the school.
I have stayed here for business in the past a few times. It's a decent place to stay, fairly comfortable. The owner has been very friendly but not overly rude either. One morning he even overslept and was late getting the breakfast out. Poor customer service! On this occasion my company's administrative assistant faxed the paperwork for the stay prior to our arrival. When I tried to check in I was told there was no fax and I had to pay myself. I showed him a copy of the paperwork the admin. assistant had messaged me but he would not accept it. He wouldn't even look at it. I then asked if it could be emailed and I was told they did not have email. What? I called the admin. assistant and she agreed to go back to the office and re-fax. While waiting, the owner again looked at the fax machine, pushed a couple of buttons while acting irritated and said, "no fax." When I told him she was trying to fax it again, he said he did not have a cartridge for the fax. What (again!) ?!?! I asked how my company was supposed to fax paperwork to get a room when he didn't even have a cartridge for his own fax machine and he said it wasn't his problem. This was the most rude, uncaring, stubborn person that I have ever encountered, especially in a customer service type industry. I will never stay here again and will tell my company to never book this hotel to any employee in the future! I will also post this review on every web board I can find and pass it on by word of mouth, along with contacting corporate Super 8.
i will never stay at this hotel again. room was very dirty. hair in the bathtub.pillow cases were dirty.. the housing was trouble..
September 2017: The bed was very uncomfortable, unable to sleep much. The room booked was to have a hot tub, but there was no hot tub in the room provided. The bathroom floor tiles would move as you stepped on them. The tub/shower was not suitable for use. Now we know. Hopefully a future renovation or update will occur soon!
Clerk was extremely rude. My daughter and her new husband stayed here on tbeir wedding night. The clerk made ny daughter (the bride) cry tbe whe time. They ended up just sleeping there and leaving by 8 am. Horrible service. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
I booked this stay for a wedding through a hotel reservation website. When I booked the room, I elected to not pay for the room at that time, and would pay for it when I got there, This was apparently confusing, as I wanted to use a different card to pay for the stay. We got it all figured out, and a manager even called to ensure that I wouldn't be double charged for the room. Good service. Then we opened the door to the room. The smell of smoke permeates the entire the floor, and as a former smoker it's not the easiest thing in the world, but we'll deal with that. We got a non-smoking room at least, so it shouldn't be too bad in there right? Nope, reeks of smoke there too. There was a couple of people cleaning the room across the hall when we got into our room with the housekeeping cart near our door. Which was fortunate as there were used towels and soap at the sink, and an unflushed used toilet as well. The beds are very soft and have plenty of decent pillows on the bed, which make up for the thin walls and hearing your neighbors four rooms away. There's a microwave, a coffee maker, and a small refrigerator in the room, as well as a continental breakfast included in the price of the room. The next time that I'm passing through Story City and have to stay the night... I'll spend the extra $20 and go to the Comfort Inn. TL:DR; Beds and service are good, but that's where it ends.
