Super 8 Ames

This is a nice basic hotel at a good price. I like to go here each time I visit Ames because of that. However, on this last trip, there were two nasty issues that came up. I'd rather be on the northern side of the motel because the highway noise and restaurant lights on the south side are a bit much. Unfortunately, the motel allows eighteen-wheelers to park overnight with their engines running...on the north side. Yes, it's winter, and there is a problem starting them in below freezing weather, but this is horribly annoying, as it's like having the highway traffic right next to your window droning all night long. The other thing was not cleaning the milk containers after each breakfast. It's not very nice when a dozen solid cream chunks fall into ones cereal. Also, I noticed the thermostat was not adjustable, stuck at 70.

I was shocked when I see the pillow cases. They were covered with spots of different colors. Maybe they were washed but they should not be used for guests! also found a hair in the bed.

I'm a guy, so, a nice adequate room at a great price through Orbitz fit the bill. A basic room with a nice bed and television. Not so close to the highway as to disturb sleep, although the parking lot lights of the Mexican restaurant were pretty bright. So, if highway noise and outside lighting are disturbing, ask for a room on the north side.

At first, they would not give my my room because their internet was down. It was only through persistence that I got into a room. I took a shower in the morning. When I reached for a towel, there wasn't one.

It was nice. Comfortable. It was in a good location

older hotel, but price was right, centrally located , lot of places to shop and eat in the area, good continental breakfast and clean rooms, would stay at this hotel again

I slept so well..The only surprise was that I had two hair conditioners in the bathroom and no shampoo. Had to use soap in my hair...yuck! Breakfast was just fine, nothing great, but the service was very good.overall staying this hotel not bad

Room was sufficiently clean and was a good value for the price paid.

this was one wonderful stay at the ames super 8. the room was clean, the staff fantastic and outgoing. a great price just made the stay all that more wonderful.

The front desk person was taking an outside smoke break and visiting with a friend/or someone while I stood waiting at the front desk for a good 5 minutes or so....she watched me walk in. The first room that I went to was on the first floor (room 105) and it had the most horrendous stench of cat urine or sever body order, not sure which. The second room, on the 3rd floor, was better, but certainly not fantastic by any means and questionable worth the lower price of the room.

I was discusted at how dirty the hotel was the smell of the room. The hallway was really scratched up and crumbs lined the hallway. I will not go back to that hotel room again.

The room was old fashioned and dirty. Hair from previous guests on bed sheets and in bathroom. TV was nice and new and liked the fridge, but overall cleanliness was terrible.

Traveling on business to the Farm Progress Show with two colleagues. All of our rooms were on the first floor which meant partially underground. Room smelled terrible, hallway smelled like smoke, dead bug on the bathroom counter and in the tub, chair was filthy. Clearly no one had been in or cleaned the room for weeks. All three of us had the same experience. And we were paying over $100/night. Stay away from this one!

Enjoyed our stay! Will stay there again in future!

We had a good stay. Was working most of the time so not much time to do much other than sleep.

We had a good stay. Right off the interstate and Dayton Ave - so a good place to stop when traveling through.

It smelled

I called this hotel yesterday afternoon to verify which location my reservation was at. I first called their Story City location, and the guy who answsered the phone there spoke very little English and couldn't seem to tell me which location my reservation was at. Then I called the Ames location and found out my reservation was there. Upon arriving I encounter yet another person who speaks so little English they were VERY unhelpful. He then tells me that even though they have rooms open I CANNOT switch rooms to one with TWO beds, which is what I requested when I reserved my room. [...] Then I had to pay an EXTRA $15.00 for a roll away for my brother, he swipes my card and tells me it was DECLINED, which it WAS NOT. He then REFUSED to run it again, even though I knew he was wrong and it wasn't declined because I had just used it 30 minutes before and knew there was money on the card. So another kid who speaks good english finally got my card to go through because the guy before him apparently can't enter the right credit card number into his own system. Then I was charged TWICE for the roll away. About 6AM this morning the pounding up and down the stairs and hallways started and went on until about 11am this morning when we finally said ENOUGH and checked out. There s NO sleep to be had at this hotel, the beds SUCK, the noise, the customer service from this so called manager, there was really nothing good about this experience. IF we were going to stay a second night I would have checked out of this hotel promptly and looked for a room in a different hotel. With in a block radius there was 6-7 other hotels from this Super 8 location. I will NEVER EVER stay at this location again, and will probably never again book into another Super 8 location. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had.

Good price quiet

The room was clean and basic. The hallways were smokey and the carpet dirty. The breakfast was basic.
