There's always something happening , weddings , fireworks, theatrical performances. A great location , staff friendly and helpful breakfast was pretty good , loved the fact that they made you an exceptional cappuccino,!,
A superbly situated hotel overlooking on one side the busy ferry terminal and coast road, then at the other side, views over the Piazza Duomo. Amalfi is constantly busy, but the tall shuttered windows meant that we could choose to escape the bustle. Thanks to Luana and her team for their friendliness and hospitality.( not forgetting the Italian lessons ! )
This hotel is in the perfect location. It is an old hotel but very clean and the staff are really nice. We stayed on the 2nd level and had a wonderful view (I asked for the view). A couple of things I should mention. The hotel is right on the road/at the Duoma square and it is very noisy with vespas and cars driving by and Italians singing and talking loud ( the lady at reception did originally have a room for us facing the square , but I asked for a room with a sea view and got it, so I didnt want to complain. It may be noisy wherever your room is located. The hotel is located a little to the left of the Duoma square across from the statue fountain as you come off the ferry. There are alot of stairs to the reception if you have heavy luggage. Its up to you. Its absolutely centrally located but if you dont mind the noise, or walking up the stairs, then go for it.
We enjoyed our stay - after the hairy drive around the coast, it was nice to arrive to such a great spot with a view from our balcony of the amalfi bay. It sits between the bay and the main square and you do have to get up some steps to get to reception, though the lift does go through the restaurant below if you have big bags. Yes we got a bit of noise from the outside first night however we closed our shutters the second night and this was better. Our room was quite spacious, with a double and two single beds. The staff were good - reception is always manned, and they organised a early breakfast for us. Good variety here, and it was great to have an actual coffee machine made by the staff rather than the automatic type
We had a sea view room over the roundabout. Formica wardrobe, tired looking room (although large), old tiny fridge, no tea/coffee in room, firm bed and a hairdryer which kept overheating and cutting out after 1 minute. The hotel breakfast is a very basic continental and is not replenished, so if you arrive 1 hour before breakfast finishes, don't expect very much choice. Wifi is 5 euros a day...really !! Several steep steps just to get to reception is a struggle with large luggage. Lift says to Bar (down), but if you try to take it up, you will get told off by the bar owner below that it is no entry to the hotel. For £80 it was ok. Convenient for ferry (5 min walk) and restaurants. The air con worked and the shutters kept out the noise until around 6am, but then Amalfi is isolated so businesses have to get their produce in when they can. Staff were a bit hit & miss, either very smiley (coffee ladies) or a bit abrupt (reception). It could be so much better.
The hotel was very comfortable and our balcony overlooked the central plaza. We had full view of all the charm that is Amalfi. The staff was friendly and most helpful and breakfast every morning was delicious.
It was a nice quiet hotel, but right in the middle of the action. There is a big staircase which you have to climb with your luggage to get to the entrance. Inside, there is an elevator. We were hiking, so we were glad that the people at the desk were knowledgeable and could answer our questions about the terrain and local bus schedules.
We stayed here for a week and liked the place. Our room was big, with a small balcony & a sea view. It was a pretty simple sort of room, and a bit dated, but everything was clean and worked. The shower had great pressure and there was always plenty of hot water. Breakfasts were typical of continental hotels: fresh rolls, croissants, meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, etc. The staff on the front desk were very helpful to us & the location of the hotel, right in the heart of Amalfi, is great with buses and ferries just minutes away. Yes, it can be noisy, but once you've shut the double-glazed windows & shutters it's fine (& we're light sleepers). We'd certainly use the hotel again if we came back to Amalfi.
My fiancé and I spontaneously booked this hotel on the way to Amalfi from Pompeii. After driving through the mountains (scary to drive but amazing view) and hitting dark, we decided to stop in Amalfi for the night to stay safe. The room we got was only 70 euro for the night. If we were staying here for the whole trip we took, I'd be very disappointed, but since they were kind enough to take us last minute, we can't really complain. Our room had 2 single beds pushed together which made sleeping quite uncomfortable and the shower head sprayed water over the shower door all through the bathroom and also popped off when I tried to increase the water pressure. A bonus was the balcony we got overlooking the little square and a beautiful cathedral. Please keep in mind that this was a budget room, so I'm not sure of how the other rooms were.
Ideally located between the main road and main piazza in Amalfi. We spent 3 nights from dec 29 and left New Year's Day. Our room had two balconies, one facing the piazza and the other facing the street. Cars driving by at all hours of the night make it difficult to sleep as do tourists talking loudly below. Traffic from the main road is also heard and felt as the building shakes when larger vehicles pass by. The New Year Eve's festivities held in the main piazza made it impossible to sleep till the music ended at 4am. The music is so loud all of the windows and shutters shake and rattle. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast is adequate. If location is your primary concern, this is the hotel for you as it is very central. If you'd prefer a quieter location, there are several small hotels tucked away in the side streets that all lead to the main piazza. Amalfi is a small town so every hotel is within walking distance of the main piazza. Inquire before booking whether there are festivities planned in the main piazza before booking as you may be inconvenienced during your stay. The room and private bathroom were very clean, with modern conveniences. The typically European beds are rather firm and may not suit every traveller. The air conditioner/heater worked very well since the weather does vary in the winter season. WIFI however is not available in the room and not included in the price of the room. WIFI is only available in the lobby and has a very limited range.
