Arriving after the stunning journey by bus from Sorrento this hotel is less than a stones throw from the terminus. We were checked in by a friendly member of staff and shown to our first floor room with a view of the Duomo. The room was large, clean and very tired. Unfortunately we were woken fairly early on the Sunday morning by the noise of the rubbish collection, which seemed to be mostly glass, that said we did sleep well. The en-suite was fine and breakfast good. Although this hotel is dated it provides fantastic value and a great location for staying in the heart of Amalfi town.
Great budget option in central location. Rooms are a little tired but still clean and comfortable - ideal if you plan to be out and about a lot and just need somewhere to sleep. Wifi is available for a charge. Breakfast was a great inclusion.
After reading some questionable reviews, I was concerned about staying here - needlessly. Our son had unexpectedly joined us (5 nights). They put an extra bed in our room and had it made up within 20 minutes and organised parking for his car., €20 a day for the car, €20 a day for him. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful regarding day excursions. We visited Naples, Pompeii, Salerno, Caserta, Positano, Sorrento, Capri, Ravello and took numerous walks up the Amalfi valley - very beautiful. Our room was quiet, clean with a balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast was adequate, coffee was excellent, with refills offered. Good value for a 3 star hotel. We stayed 16 nights.
This hotel was very outdated and had very small, claustrophobic rooms. The bathroom was hideous ... very poor lighting and an unbelievably small shower. This was poor, even for European standards. Our room was SO NOISY - overlooked a large square that had constant noise and activity all day and night! We had no balcony. I would strongly recommend looking at other options before choosing this one!
This hotell is quite ancient but its fine limited facilities ie no lounges or swimming pool The dining roo. For breakfast is also reception and you half to walk up up one floor level to reach reception.but most rooms have balconies with a view over the main square a d up i to the mountains some have sea views but the bed was comfortable and the aircon worked breakfast was typical continental but acceptable
After reading the reviews I was rethinking our booking, we arrived at the hotel and we were shown to our room. We booked the balcony suite, it was clean, tidy and plenty of room, the shower was small but water pressure was great. The location is fantastic and central to everything Amalfi has to offer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We overlooked the ocean from our balcony and enjoyed watching the action below. It is a little outdated but it is Italy and you should accept that, we were not disappointed. During our stay in Italy small rooms and outdated decor is the Norm, but simply love Italy.
Whilst this hotel has outdated decor & can be noisy, it is perfectly located within short walking distance of the bus & ferry station, shops, beach, resteruants & attractions. The bed is quite hard with thin bed coverings & thin pillows & the shower is super tiny. The outdated decor makes the room & reception appear shabby & not so clean but in actual fact it is clean & tidy. The hotel staff are friendly & it is clearly a family run hotel which gives a nice atmosphere. Because of the location within the main piazza it can be noisy from the activity below, including the church bells/town clock which chim frequently. Breakfast is ok. There are a number of steep stairs to ascend/descend to enter the hotel which if you're carrying heavy luggage can be challenging but there's a small lift once inside the hotel. The daily bus & ferry timetables are displayed in the hotel reception. There is £5-10 charge for wifi. The air conditioning works well. Good hotel to stay at if you want to be less than a 5 minute walk of everything & don't need a super comfortable nights sleep or a sleep in.
My wife and I arrived at 5:30 pm on Friday, August 25 and were told upon arrival that there was not a room available for us, even though we had already booked the room and had a confirmation of payment. We were relocated to Hotel Lidomare and had a reasonably good stay there, but the whole thing was incredibly unprofessional and disappointing. We intend to seek to get our money back.
Customer service is not great , room not great , don't brink big luggage very small area in elevator . There is charge 5 day for wifi . Breakfast was okay. There was water leaking into our room during the rain they put bedsheets on the ground no other room available .
Summary: PROS Centrally located Very clean CONS Tired decor, in DESPERATE need of a make over Very uncomfortable mattress and bedding Tiny shower stall with a loose shower head Air conditioner did not work well Breakfast was just ok The location was good but it was very noisy day and night. My room was on the second floor facing the adjacent hotel, and above a busy walk way. The church bell sounded regularly and was so loud. My room and bathroom were very clean but did not initially appear so because the decor was so shabby. The bed spread was paper thin, and the two pillows stacked together did not equal one normal size pillow. There was a hodgepodge of clothes hangers in the closet. I cannot imagine that it costs that much for decent mattresses and matching clothes hangers in each room. Also, matching bed spreads and drapes to create some semblance of decor would make a big difference in the initial impression when entering the room, and improve the comfort of the guests. The decor of the entire hotel is shabby. My room was not cheap. Not sure if it was because I booked last minute during peak season or what, but I paid about $1200 for a three night stay. With rates like that, it would seem that there would be funding available in the budget for renovations and repairs. After staying at Hotel Fontana, I checked in to Hotel Centrale which is directly across the square from Fontana. I wished that I had stayed there for my entire stay. The room was very basic as well but unlike at Hotel Fontana, it appeared that there was pride taken in the appearance and decor. That made my stay so much better and so much more comfortable.
