Stayed a number of times at this hotel. Main draw is it's location...literally built over a "Costa Coffee" branch and M&S Foodhall. Hale has good restaurants and bars and is a great alternative to Manchester city centre...a 15 minute walk takes you to Altrincham Metrolink Station then a 20 min ride to the city centre. Altrincham itself rapidly regaining it's former status of a great suburban town centre after many years of decline thanks to the Trafford Centre. Hotel is a kind of "Crossroads", functional but could do with a good clean, if not a makeover! I was unable to open the window in my room which made it difficult to get rid of the stale odour. There is a seedy feel to this place (I think it may be used to house homeless and asylum seekers at times?..but I have no real problem with that) but for £35-odd per night it's fine. Will happily stay again. Bed was fine, shower good, clean towels and bedding.
Could not get them to answer the phone to confirm booking. On arrival I was confronted by a lazy Asian looking gentleman sitting watching television at the reception, I think that he was miffed at having to talk to me and give me my room key. The carpets were not only threadbare but could have done with a good scrubbing. There was a horrible mildew smell everywhere that I walked. My partner cried on seeing the state of our room. Again carpets filthy, bathroom still had a wet mat on the floor, presumably from the last traveler. We arrived 6pm so they had plenty of time to clean the room and toilet. I was in a rush booking an airport hotel, as I was flying out the following morning to Italy, and of course the Train drivers were on strike, so I had to travel the day before. Anyway, I don't wish to go on about my worst experience ever at staying in a hotel/hovel and I've stayed in bamboo huts on beaches in Koh Larn etc for £1.50p per night which were much cleaner than this place. Suffice to say, readers, please read reviews before booking Happy travelling peeps... :-)
Ideal if you want a cheap bed for the night before flying out the following morning from Manchester Airport. Had single use of a twin room for one night for £34, without breakfast. You can catch a train to Hale station (5 minutes away) or catch tram to Altrinham (free travel on a Manchester Seniors card) then a £4.50 cab) ride. Centrally based in Hale village with lots of places to eat or drink in and there's a Marks and Spencer Food next door (bought reduced price sandwiches and a yogurt £1.50, for breakfast) Value, clean bed but room and stairs were 'tired', the room smelt of damp and I didn't get my 0430hrs wake up call, which would have caused mega problems if I'd been depending on it as my sole wake up. I would probably pay a few pounds more and stay elsewhere, in future
Low price, low quality hotel tolerable for one night if using it for airport access. Previous reviewers have said it all and if you stay you will understand the comments. Room was freezing on arrival, heating only 'allowed on' after 6pm. However, I was truly concerned that behind the torn, worn filthy curtains was a shabby window with accompanying black mould. Beware if you have respiratory problems.
My young daughter and her boyfriend checked into this hotel last night after landing at an awkward time. Within 20 minutes they had checked out. Threatening groups of men, a madman outside throwing tables and chairs, no proper lock on the door.... they fled terrified to a nearby pub where the landlord there said the hotel brings nothing but trouble to the area. They were picked up by a family friend at gone midnight. The hotel also refused to refund their money so that was £40 wasted plus the taxi fare there from the airport. Should be renamed Bates' Motel.
This hotel is OK it's clean but basic the room was the standard of this type of hotel/motel bathroom with bath with shower sink and toilet. TV in room with working chanels and tea/coffee making . One great point smoking possible out the window.
We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family in the local area who didn't have room to put us up. Thanks to reviews we were pretty clear at the time of booking what we would be getting. We kept fingers crossed that it would be fine and basically it was. Bedding and bathroom were clean, room was warm and quiet, and parking in adjacent Cecil Road East car park was fine (& free for the hours we needed to use it). We didn't book breakfast. Yes, the whole place badly needs a refurb but 'if and until' then, it is what it is. As a simple bed for the night, you could do worse.
I spent three days and two nights here. It's a quite and nice laidback lazy ambience that I enjoyed in my first visit to Hale, Altrincham. All the facilities were good. Room rent included buffet breakfast. Food was good, Room was big enough for my liking. TV was small screen but I was least bothered about. Surrounding locale is quite pleasantly peaceful. I definitely recommend this place for budget travellers.
You get what you pay for I guess! Cheap price and it is cheap for a reason. The other reviews slamming the place are not wrong but I imagine the vitriol that some write with is based on staying overnight. I'm afraid I bailed out after a couple of hours of listening to the next door room fight.....probably from the state of their room. Hey ho!
Booked this hotel as a stay and fly, what they fail to mention is you have to drive from this hotel to a sister hotel to get a shuttle bus which is 15 minutes away so instead of getting up and going straight to the airport you have to drive the car and park it elsewhere which isnt ideal at 4am. This hotel does not have free parking so make sure to pay and display or you will get a ticket. The hotel itself is run down and stuck in the 1970's, the hallways smell awful and the rooms are absolutley freezing. My partner is a serving soldier and says he has stayed in warmer and more modern barracks. It was so cold he went out to his car to bring in his sleeping back which happened to be in the boot. The only redeeming features of this hotel was the shower was decent and the rooms were clean but I would not stay here ever again even if its just for one night for an early morning flight.
