Well we booked halfboard, on arrival we wasn't told about any procedure about our dinner arangments, breakfast, etc, on arriving for dinner later that evening, we had chosen what food we wanted , the starter was ok, but the main course a fish dish came out on a plate ,looked very nice but unfortunately the fish was raw, when we bought it to the attention of the waiter he said " its raw is it not "he then removed the meals and he didn't offer to replace them, he offered us dessert which we declined . We spoke to the owner who said because we ate the 2 pieces of potato , and drank the cheap glass of house white wine what came with it she would not refund the cost of the evening meal. Which to us was totally unacceptable. We then cancelled the following nights evening meal and just had the breakfast which was rubbish, done so cheaply, you wouldn't believe. We then went to bar area and ordered a plate of chips because we where hungry, and to be honest the chips where coverd in grease .

We stayed for two nights and were really pleased, especially for the very reasonable price we paid. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who helped us also book a taxi to the airport when we were due to leave. There is a restaurant and bar on site but we only ordered drinks which were again very reasonably priced. There is a small pool with about ten sun loungers, although whilst we were there we were pretty much the only people using the pool area and loungers. There is a lovely view across from the hotel of the sea front. The rooms are quite basic, so if you need to dry your hair you will need a hair dryer and there aren't any tea facilities in the room (not that we expected any). We had a nice clean and quite modern bathroom with a powerful hot shower. It's also worth mentioning that our room had wooden shutters and the room was in darkness once closed, so we weren't woken early with any light coming into our room. It's a great location as there is a tram stop just across the road (1.45 Euro to travel to el Campello or Alicante) We would definitely visit again

Very acceptable cafe and appears well loved by locals. Menu had some Spanish favorites that the cognoscenti are now discovering all over again, such as fab beef cheeks, cooked exquisitely. Fair prices. Good experienced staff. The Hostel is well placed right beside the Tram line and 10 m from stunning beach. I haven't seen the rooms, but from the outside, it seems mor 4star than 2.

We stayed at this hotel in late September for a week. We opted for the free breakfast, and we were so glad we did. The meal had a great selection, there was even decaf coffee with milk! We stayed in Room 105 initially, and it was really noisy because of the restaurant, but the last two days of our stay we were in Room 306. The view of the beach was so wonderful. It made our stay very memorable. Rooms do not have AC, but since were were there in late September, it was fine-- there was a good breeze from the windows. We absolutely love this place!

We stayed two nights and we are still regretting that we could not change our plans and stay longer Across the street the very warm sea waits for you and you can walk 200 feet and more in the sea from shore and still standing on the sandy bottom This relatively small hotel has such a good restaurant with a sophisticated menu, that we had all our meals there... we believe it is the most delicious food we had during our 5 weeks in Europe We had all our meals on the raised terrace looking at the sea across the street The service at the restaurant of the hotel was excellent also The staff at the reception were stiff a bit and there was no A/C in the room Wi-Fi never worked

We stayed at Hostal San Juan for 4 nights. All in all it was good for the price we payed. Pros: + the location with beachview is nice and also the tram station is just 200m away + hotel staff is nice and helpfull, all of them speak english very well + the hostal and also the rooms always were clean + the terasse and pool area are great to enjoy a beer in the sun ;) Cons: - no balcony or terasse access in our room eventhough I asked for it - there isn't much around except the beach, tram station and not many restaurants, the next supermarket is a 10min walk away and if you don't always want to eat at the hotel restaurant you always have to take the tram to the city - the restaurant staff do not fluently speak english (or not at all) - no wifi in the rooms and the signal in the reception area is horrible! if you walk out of the hotel just one step, there is no signal anymore! - very noisy rooms! you hear the neighbours as well as the restaurant and the tram all night long

Old style Spanish charm right on the beach..half board nice evening meal and breakfast.Lovely relaxing spot .Ideal for beach holiday in San Juan and local area . The rooms are a little dated but ask for a double bed ,very comfortable nights sleep

The hostel is modest but absolutely lovely. Five meters away from the beach, it's the perfect place for people who wants to relax in a peaceful environment. Don't expect big luxury, instead you will be received by the sweetest staff I've met in a long time. My group of friend had some organization problems but the hostel staff revealed empathic and tolerant with our chaos and help us to find solutions. If I return to the area, I will definitely book Hostel San Juan.

Visited with my mother in June 2015. Our room had a great view, the staff was really nice and friendly along with the waiters at the restaurant. The location is great, at the beautiful Muchavista beach and the Muchavista tram station is just outside the hostel (its really easy to travel to El Campello or Alicanta via the tram). Its a quiet neighborhood so we had no trouble sleeping. The breakfast was good aswell. There are no elevators and no air conditioner, but we still loved it. Thank you for making this holiday lovely !!

we loved our stay at the hostal san juan. don't let the word hostal put you off, in spain it seems to relate to causal travellers rather than week long holiday makers like ourselves. the hostal was extremely clean and friendly. the maids cleaned every day and was spotless. the food was responsibly priced and menus changed daily. tapas was readily available to enjoy outside with a view of the sea. the location is perfect and only 50 feet from the tram stop which passes by every 20 mins. choose from bendorm to your left or Alicante to the right. you can even pay on board. there is a large supermarket within walking distance and plenty of restaurants close by. we enjoyed what felt like private use of the pool and loved our stay. our third story room was a challenge to get to but worth the walk as we had a stunning view over the beach. there is no air conditioning but you wont mind as there is a fan and fully opening wooden windows which was more than adequate at the end of September. will definitely be back soon. thank you.
