We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Galetamar and are a family with two boys (8 and 4). My husband and I travelled extensively before having kids and have holidayed at least twice a year since having children. I would class this holiday as possibly the best family holiday I have ever had. I am basing this comment on the fact that the kids enjoyed it so much which is my main priority these days - if they are happy then so am I. The hotel and bungalows (where we stayed) are clean and do everything you need. The bungalows were very comfortable and I think the bedrooms and bathroom had been recently updated. A nice little kitchen (clean and again I think it is new) which does the job for making a bit of breakfast etc. A full sized fridge which is good for drinks etc. Although this hotel is to one end of Calpe there are some very good restaurants nearby. My husband actually preferred the location as the promenade in the centre could get quite crowded. We did not eat the evening meal in the hotel so I can't really comment on that. There is a nice little beach called La Calalga which is much less crowded than the main beach in Calpe and actually preferable for swimming. The pool in the hotel is clean and it is good to have the small children's pool. Generally Calpe has a good feel and people have good attitudes to visitors and tourists (in my view). The area is family friendly and feels safe - no rowdiness or bad behaviour. The main thing I would like to comment on is the amazingly friendly staff and particularly/mainly Luis who is the entertainment manager and really the key person who leads activities. I never actually write reviews on here but feel compelled to comment this time. The fun and friendly environment really set this holiday apart from others we have been on. We took part in Aquagym every day which was a brilliant and fun start to the morning - led by Luis who actually is a trained dancer and incredibly good fun. My husband even took part which I have never known before with this type of activity. He saw how fun it was and actually wanted to do it. Luis is an absolute star and the hotel are lucky to have him. During the day other activities (e.g. darts, scuba diving) were on offer as well as the great activities for children. In the evening the minidisco for children was fantastic and Luis leads some fantastic evenings which are perfect for the little ones. On a couple of nights a week there is a singer on after the minidisco. Basically every night there is something happening. My children absolutely did not want to leave and we have a case of "post-holiday blues" now we are home. My son told me tonight he wants to return and can it be for 3 weeks next time? AR Galetamar - you are really getting it right here. Luis is simply the best. Staff on reception were good and it is also very easy to get a taxi to the old town (which is recommended as it is lovely!). Taxis arrive within minutes. Bar staff are lovely too.
Along with my elderly parents, my 2 year old son and my husband we stayed in a bungalow at the hotel. It was large enough and had everything that we needed in the kitchen, and when we requested something extra, the staff was kind enough to provide it. However, the location is very far from the beach (1 - 1.3 km ) and became a strain to walk the distance 4 times a day (in the mornings round trip, and then in the afternoon again). The view from the bungalow was to an abandoned construction site. During the 9 days of our stay, the housekeeping service came just once. The entry to the bungalow parking was very narrow, so larger cars had difficulty in entering.
2 weeks too long! floors and bed cleaned, but not surfaces,Entertainment is in Spanish only, guests 90%Spanish! waiting staff pay more attention to Spaniards. Some staff are quite surly. Food is average for buffet, overcooked, and tough! Most reception staff were pleasant.
I'll start my review by mentioning how excellent the staff were at the hotel, all had a smile on their faces and were great with our 2 yr old. We found the pool area great, nice and relaxing and the bar is well stocked. Our room was fine however there was a locked shutter denying access to the kitchen. We had a lovely large balcony and the hotel is in a nice location and the strip is within walking distance. I'll get to the not so great points from our point of view anyway (were a couple in our late 20s)... the hotel really would be more catered for the older holidaymaker, it's quite dated in places. There was nothing for our little one in the hotel apart from the kids pool. The entertainment consisted of bingo, boules, line dancing etc. When we just arrived we went to the pool area to have a drink and right beside us one of the English elderly residents was complaining about holiday makers and how she's not getting enough money letting out her apartment, not the best welcome when you've literally just arrived and sat down to start your holiday. We did find the majority of the residents to be lovely though. Overall we had a good holiday... Calpe is exceptionally beautiful, we'll certainly be back to Calpe.
Very friendly staff food good the only negative is the beds really need to be dumped and replaced would stay here again location is a little out but within walking distance to centre if you were elderly it would be a bit of a struggle a trip to the old town is a must
I arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, my check in was done quite quickly but I was not told anything about the safe in the room until I asked. There is a charge for the safe and I had to wait till later before I could get a code that would enable me to use the safe. I also had to ask where the lift to the upstairs floors was and was not offered any help with my luggage. My room was pleasant and very clean, there was lots of drawer space. There was a wardrobe with quite a lot of hanging space but unfortunately none of it was deep enough to hang dresses properly. There was a full size fridge (make sure you turn it on!). The bathroom had a large shower with all the different shower heads mentioned by other reviewers but I didn't find out during the two weeks stay, how to turn the other ones on. I just used the large shower head and stood back if I didn't want to get my hair wet. My room was at the back of the hotel so the balcony faced some villas and hillsides, I could see the sea if I looked out to the right. Everything was kept very clean while I was there. I've had problems in some other hotels with electronic keys but it worked perfectly in this hotel. The wifi was good both in the room and public areas, the only problem I had was that the wifi code I was given would only work in one device so I was unable to use it for both my phone and tablet without signing out of one before signing into the other. I was able to get a drink from the hotel bar after arrival, I had been hoping to get something to eat but the food was restricted to limited times. The drinks were very cheap, 1.5 Euros for a very large glass of wine, seven Euros for a bottle. The bar is not continually manned, you often have to ring the bell to get service. The staff work very hard between the dining room and the bar. The hotel was mostly quiet while I was there, it could have been because it was late May and the summer season hadn't properly started. However, the first weekend was an exception, the hotel was full of Spanish pensioners. There was live music and they were having a wonderful time doing their line dancing. They were all very friendly even though we couldn't understand much of what each other was saying! The following weekend there was what seemed to be a dance club, again there was live music and they were all enjoying the dancing. Other than that, the hotel bar was usually quiet, it closed rather early at 11.30. The pool area was very pleasant there was a swimming pool and a children's pool, there were some fixed parasols and a number of trees providing shade. There were plenty of sun loungers but no cushions for them so they were a little hard. It was usually peaceful around the pool. There was an outdoor seating area with large parasols. I was on a half board arrangement, I found the food to be quite good but of course it does get a bit tedious after two weeks. At breakfast there were fried, boiled and scrambled eggs, a variety of breads and croissants, fruit, cereals and biscuits. It was fine for me, the only thing I would have liked to see more often was grilled tomatoes which were only available about once a week. At dinner there were different fish dishes every day and dishes made with pork or chicken, pasta etc. as well as a selection of salads. Desserts were usually too sweet for me but there were sometimes baked apples or pears, fresh fruit and ice cream. The hotel is right at the end of the resort, you can walk down the hill along the promenade which runs right to the Ifach rock then starts again at the other side. It's quite a long but very nice walk, the coastal scenery is lovely. The old town is worth a visit. There are lots of shops, restaurants and bars along the promenade but unfortunately none of them were open after midnight and most were quiet. There's one a little way along the prom called 78, it was a bit livelier and had some music playing. The hotel reception staff will order a taxi for you if you need one but beware if you ask for a train timetable, the one they gave us showed the wrong times. This may have been due to the fact that the line to Denia was closed and perhaps the timetable for the other direction reflected that but the trains only run about once an hour so you wouldn't want to miss it. The station is right at the other end of the resort but you can get a bus or taxi there, the bus stop is just around the corner from the hotel. I liked a lot of things about this hotel but unfortunately both the hotel and the resort itself were too quiet in the evenings and there were more high rise buildings in the resort than I had expected.
We r there now awful rooms lovey but unless u live there u not welcome we r waiting now for a manager disgusting we t from London having a laugh as my partner got out he's Shorts showed he's bum we laughed then he got accused of exposure can't believe it then again we was bullied went to reception as we was picked they didn't care I asked to speak to a manager was told he was off lovely hotel awful people as they live ere they fink they own it they ruin it and I am taking it further u can read my post and no I'm truthful disgusting
We stayed in one of their 2 bedroom bungalows for 4 days. For a three star we expected a bit better. The place was clean and parts of the bungalow had been refurbished yet everything looked mismatched and old. The paint of the wall of the main bedroom was about to fall any minute due to the high level of humidity in the area. Terrace was ok but no views for us. The pool area was nice and the pool heated and clean. For the price expected better, perhaps lodging in the actual hotel is better than what we had in the bungalow but we were looking for a two bedroom apartment and this place offered what we were looking for. We never ate at the hotel but we're offered the option and the price for a buffet lunch or dinner would have been very fair. Lots of great restaurants very close to the hotel, HYDRA just down the road is highly recommendable. It was an ok stay but wouldn't repeat. If you are looking for something affordable this might do the trick.
Stayed here for 5 nights in March. I booked half board and emailed the hotel prior to my visit to ask if there was going to be food available as I wasn't expecting to get to the hotel from Alicante until after 9:30pm, no problem I was told "we can prepare a cold meal for you". Turned out I didn't get there until midnight due to the plane being delayed and problems waiting for the hire car. Check in was speedy and efficient but I was keen to see what food (if any) was left for me. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were several dishes with a selection of cold meats, salad, fruit and a half bottle of red wine to wash it all down with-just what I needed! The rest of my stay at the Galetamar was completely trouble free, the room as comfortable, food, although buffet style was plentiful, varied and well cooked.
I’ve just got back from a week, with family members and friends, in the Galatamar Hotel in Calpe. It’s a normal hotel, but it was spotlessly clean, had wonderful staff, and my room, 206, had loads of room and storage. The view from the balcony, to the left, was a nice sea view, with other building straight ahead and to the right. There was no noticeable noise in the hotel, but it was very early in the season, the pool bar wasn’t even open yet. Oh, my room had a wonderful shower, the normal big overhead head, a pick-up head, and eight small heads coming out of the wall facing you, and always plenty of hot water. The hotel is just a bit out of the way for the beach and town, shops etc. You either have to walk or get a bus. The terrain is ok, but the last hundred yards or so getting to the hotel is a bit of a climb, no good if you have difficulties. I was there Bed and Breakfast, as I was doing other things with family, but the food was normal hotel food, trying to cater for everybody’s tastes. The choices and amounts were plentiful, and even my English pallet was satisfied with nice fried eggs on toast, yoghurt etc. I felt very much at ease in this hotel, and very pleased, would recommend it to others who like walking.
