Booked in for 2 nights as wanted to visit the nearby beaches. On arrival the receptionist whose name I can't remember, sorry, was lovely and really very helpful during our stay. She booked us in and showed us around. It is a property facing onto a road and our room was quite noisy but didn't bother us too much as were out all day and at night the shutters were closed and it was quieter. Other rooms faced the courtyard at the back and had terraces with tables and chairs scattered around. There were pretty climbers and other flowers along with water features. The pool was clean but the place looked a bit tired in areas. Breakfast was continental inc bread, ham, cheese, cereal, fruit. There was a smell from outside a bit like drains occasionally that found its way into the room. I don't believe this was the hotels problem. The new owners, after a recent takeover, were friendly and willing to help although spoke little English. We were told they had plans to expand and improve the business. The bedroom we had was very basic and the furniture a little dated but clean and tidy. I think if the renovation is done well and thought out they will have a lovely building and a very successful business. There is only one restaurant along the road but it is a good one. There is a ice cream parlour, supermarket and a couple of little bars but not much else.
A romantic little guesthouse hidden in a quiet suburb outside Ferragudo. The courtyard is amazing with a swimming pool and beautiful flowers overhanging the building. The room are large and clean. Bathroom could to do with a little update. Although mentioned there was no air conditioner in the room. Just a ventilator on the ceiling. Staff is super friendly and helpful. You do need a car if you are staying here. Praia Grande and Ferragudo about 10 minutes driving away.
A great 3 day break at Rio Arade - such a tranquil setting - a great welcome - rooms were spotless - very comfortable - gorgeous outdoor space -garden/patio with pool - breakfast on the terrace was stunning - I would highly recommend this for a quiet break. It's an oasis in a very typical Portugese Village - short drive to a fabulous beach - ate in two great restaurants in the village and plenty more recommended by the host.
We stayed here in the summer of 2016 while on our summer holiday. The hotel is very nice, well decorated and has a homely feel to it. The staff are very friendly and the owner Jon is a great guy who was always more than happy to go out of his way to help with whatever we needed. Our room was fairly basic but clean and more than adequate for our needs. The pool was small but a perfect way to cool down after a hot day in the sun. The breakfast was simple but there was enough selection for there to be something for everyone. Travel wise there is a bus stop near the hotel but we personally found the buses very confusing, maybe this is because we are used to the efficiency of London buses, but most the time even the bus drivers were not sure where they were going. After the first day we had a hire car for the remainder of the holiday and this is the way I would recommend anyone else staying here travel. There is always room to park either outside or close to the hotel. Overall this was a very nice and comfortable stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
We had a great holiday. Rio arade house was the perfect environment for our chilled out holiday. We loved laying by the pool. One evening our taxi didn't arrive to take us out so John the owner drove us himself! Perfect hosts friendly and helpful at every turn. Couldn't fault anything
Very very charming small guest house !! breakfasts in the garden with bougainvillea and a so nice swimming pool...music at the reception. The owner John is so friendly. I warmly recommend this "human size" place !!!!
It isn't easy to find this place since the location name is different from where it is located actually, but with GPS one can find the place. Then the main entrance door looks more like a Garage door than the entrance of a house. Once you step inside you are surrounded with calm and serenity. The room we were given was located on the first floor: a very large "yellow" room, with a queen size bed, and a single bed, overlooking the street but it wasn't too noisy since there isn't much traffic at night. There was little space for our clothes and no wardrobe to be found, only a hanging rod and a few open shelves in a tiny room which had a folded bed and we used it as a shelf since we were to spend 5 nights there. We also used the single bed in the room to put our clothes on. Not very pretty but adequate. BUT on the third day, they took the folded bed away, put our clothes on the floor without even telling us if we minded or not. That was not very nice. They should have advised us beforehand they would take it away so we would put our clothes somewhere else or rearrange the way we put our clothes rather than placing them on the floor. Then...we had problem with the running water on the second day. The hot water tap would just flow on a continuous basis. No matter how hard we tried to switch it off we could not. So they had to call someone to fix that. It is an old building and I guess in dire need of upgrade. This bathroom was big but the shower cubicle very tiny....what a pity. There was a flat screen TV, but it looked more like a computer size TV screen, quite small. As for the breakfast, we did not like the fact that the fresh orange juice seemed to be diluted, so not much taste....and not much choice of bread either: only white bread which we never eat, and the croissants were factory made and came in plastic wrapping, tasting stale and not fresh. The coffee was also quite tasteless. You would expect a better breakfast with fresher ingredients at least for the price we paid. Breakfast was sure a let down. There is a beautiful courtyard on the ground floor and we spent a few nights enjoying the cool and calmness of the place, while sipping wine bought nearby. There is no parking space within the premises so one has to park outside in the street but there are usually plenty of place a little further ahead of the B&B. The owner, a British man, was very keen to tell us where to go, what to visit and we did everything he suggested. We had a good time because we did not let the negative aspects of the place deter us from enjoying the area. Ana Alves contributed greatly to our enjoyment. She was an extremely friendly and helpful person.
Best place to stay and relax in the pool! Great location which was secluded and quiet. Breakfast was great and we could have it in the garden! The host was very friendly and helpful too. Overall, it was a great experience!
++Nice hotel, a lot of charm. Very nice garden and terrace, nice swimming pool. Breakfast was very good, a lot of fruit and choices of bread. - Too hot in room without airconditioning and too noisy in front rooms.
This small hotel/B&B is ideal for those that want a relaxing quiet break. John and Ana are friendly and make you feel very welcome. We enjoyed breakfast outside in the courtyard surrounded by lovely flowers.Plenty of cheese, breads, fruits, pastries and cereal to choose from. We had the use of a car which we were glad of but some days were spent around the peaceful pool which is in a very pretty garden. In the evening you can enjoy a drink in the courtyard from the honesty bar, never come across this before in a hotel but what a lovely idea. Thoroughly enjoyed our week here, hope to return in the future.
