We had a lovely week here and overall, the hotel is good. However, the hotel does not live up to the 5 star ranking- and doesn't quite match expectations of a European 5 star hotel. This was manifested in lots of different ways throughout our week long holiday here but it is mainly through the service. For example, whilst the breakfast offerings are plentiful and of a good quality, the table service for hot drinks is incredibly slow and waiters frequently provided the coffee before returning ten minutes later with a cup... Simple things like this were frustrating for the guest at a supposed 5 star hotel! The service in the pool bar is similarly slow and painfully disorganised. Other examples of failing to meet expectations include: - No tea or coffee provision in the room - Only 6 seats on the shuttle bus to the beach thus it frequently was booked (although alternatively were offered) - The latest shuttle bus returning at 5:15 meaning transport for dinner had to be otherwise arranged - Bags weren't in room 3 hours after checking in (when asked twice they did finally appear) Another example is the housekeeping. It was evident that we were using the glasses provided in our room however for 4 days, the housekeeping merely moved them around the room rather than replacing them with clean glasses. Although when we called for replacements they were provided immediately, this is another example of service lacking in places. As I say, we had a good week here however the overall message is one of slow and disappointing service and thus need for improvement to reach 5 stars.
We recently returned from a one week stay at the Pestana Vila Sol and we absolutely loved it! The hotel is beautiful and the staff were always helpful and courteous. Our room was on the third floor of the main hotel and we found it clean and comfortable. We appreciated the little extras provided by the hotel such as complimentary arrival drinks in our mini bar and a surprise cake for our daughter on her 7th birthday. Our daughter loved the children's pool and there was always free sun loungers, even half way through the day. The complex is relaxing and ideally situated at around 15mins drive away from the marina. I would recommend hiring a car to make the most of your stay. Overall a lovely, relaxing break and we look forward to returning in the future.
Here at Pestana Vila sol. Lovely place but definately not 5*. Air con not working in hotel room 316. No tea & coffee facilities. Not sure if we pay for what's in minibar? The walk to our other rooms which is a garden room is very dangerous. Very uneven due to block paving lifting & lighting not working so tripped many times. We have 3 adults in a garden room & it caters for 2adults 1child. Overall pool area nice as is hotel grounds
We stayed at this Hotel in July 2017 and the overriding feeling was one of disappointment. After arriving at 11 am following an early flight we were toldy on checking in that our room would not be ready until 3 pm so the two of us plus one child had to open our suitcases and change to poolside clothes in the gym . To be fair reception did in the event telephone us at 1 pm to say that our room was now ready. Prior to the holiday we did e mail the hotel to request a room away from the ground floor in the main building but were refused the reason given being that our agent had booked us in a ' garden suite'. On arrival we again asked adding that we were willing to pay any extra but were told that the main building was fully booked. The room that we were given was dated, dark and dirty. It hadn't been cleaned properly- there was an old bottle top and a hair band on the floor. The staff did not clean the room properly during our stay either. One day they had failed to even lift up the toilet seat and another day they decided not to pay us a visit at all.The net curtain was torn and the general state was poor. The plus side was that the air conditioning in the room itself was excellent which cannot be said for the rest of the hotel. The double doors leading to the outside gardens are left opened meaning that reception is constantly sweltering, as is the bar area and the breakfast restaurant. Our garden suite room was situated on row 12 and due to the growing roots of the trees the block paving has been uplifted and is an accident waiting to happen. Prices at the poolside bar were expensive, a large slush and a large Coke Zero costing in excess of 8 euro's. The pool, and surrounding area's are very nice. Myself I found the breakfast restaurant staff to be very nice. Tea and coffee was delivered promptly and though I didn't consume any meat the food that I did have was very good with a good selection. We didn't stay for an evening meal during our stay so I couldn't comment on that. If the air conditioning could be switched on and the doors closed the restaurant and bar area's could pass as five star as could the pool area. Other than that and given the condition of the room and the adjacent block paving then this hotel is no more than three star standard.
The staff at this hotel were lovely couldn't do enough to help. The grounds and the pool are immaculate. We stayed in garden rooms which could go with an update but were clean and the bedsheets comfy. They could go with updating and some repairs done to the paths before I would consider them 5 star and deluxe. We didn't see the hotel rooms so can't comment. My hubby loved that there was a good course attached to the hotel. The clubhouse was a lovely place to have a drink and relax. We wound go back again
Me and my partner have recently returned from a fantastic stay at this hotel! I must admit I am a little late in writing this review but we felt we needed to share our experiences after (very surprisingly) we saw such negative reviews! Firstly, the hotel is lovely, staff are friendly and the manager is absolutely fantastic! There are two pools a large pool and a children's pool both of which always had sun beds available. The restaurant is wonderful with a great variety of food available perfect for all ages! We had breakfast each day which was lovely and we had a buffet one evening which was great (my other half would 100% recommend this!) Pathways are bumpy and uneven which for us was no issue but may be a tad challenging for some! Admittedly this hotel is quite out of the way, however, We were aware of this so we could budget for taxis, which cost no more than £10 to and from the marina. There is a free shuttle which I think leaves around tea time perhaps 5:30? This was slightly too early for us but could be good for those who want to save a bit of money on taxis as there are plenty of bars and shops to visit at the marina before you sit down to eat in the evening! Finally, I want to thank and praise the staff particularly the manager who was so so kind and welcoming and came to check on us whenever he could to make sure everything was ok! The staff were wonderful and no issue was too big! Due to miscommunications we were placed in a twin room which wasn't the end of the world but a slight mention of this to reception and they moved us within the hour which was very helpful. We also had an issue with a bill one night which was sorted immediately with no questions asked. We had sun beds brought to our room for us one day which was a lovely surprise. My other half had his birthday whilst we were away and with no mention of this the staff had made him a birthday cake which was a lovely touch! Overall, we had a fabulous stay! This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at in Vilamoura and we will definitely return!
It was my 2nd time in Algarve and 1st time booked into Pestana Vila Sol. First of all I must commend the 'Unit Manger' I can not recall his name but liked the attention he gave to guests and the hotel as a whole. He would assist during busy breakfast times when the staff seemed very busy. The rooms are clean and spacious bathrooms although the bathrooms appear big as the rooms. Breakfast was excellent, there was a whole range to choose from. Buffet dinner was just 'okay'. If you want to go to the beach it is quite a distance, we had to use Uber to get there, maybe an inconvenience for those that want to be near the beach at all times, however there is a shuttle you can book provided by the hotel that can take you to Vilamoura Marina/ beach. We were able to use that service, so that was wonderful too. My family and I enjoyed every moment spent there ,it is very quiet and relaxing, away from the hustle & bustle. Great swimming pools, golf, tennis and lounging area. There was a slight problem with the ground not being level and quite bumpy which can be quite dangerous when its dark..... I would definitely stay here again, as we were made to feel welcome. Although we could not speak any Portuguese, we did try and most of the staff were able to communicate with us in English which is a lovely gesture. We hope to learn a bit more Portuguese for next time. The bar tender at the Bar Prime was very lovely, amazing service as well as the reception staff. My husband and I decided to join the 'Pestana Priority Guest' as our first experience with Pestana V S was good. Many thanks Cynthia & Keith
We have just come back from a lovely break at Pestana Vila Sol. We have stayed at many hotels throughout Europe and can say this hotel matched and exceeded them in many ways. The hotel is situated in a peaceful location with beautiful gardens. From any point within the grounds, you cannot see any other hotel which contributes towards the peaceful and quiet ambience of the resort. There are hotels which are closer to the Vilamoura beachfront but peace and quiet was what we were looking for so it was perfect for us. The reception staff were friendly, informed and answered all our queries. I think it says a lot about previous posters on this forum who travel to a foreign country and then complain that reception staff cannot speak “proper” English. The reception staff can speak perfectly good English and attended to all the queries and requests we made. We needed a mobile phone charger converter for our UK charger and they happily provided this to us. We accidently locked our safe and this was attended to immediately. The rooms were well presented with a very generously sized bathroom which is a welcome change from some of the small bathrooms which come with other hotels we have stayed at. Rooms were cleaned early on in the day with fresh towels and linen and the cleaner always had a smile on her face. The pools are beautifully kept and my daughter played for hours in the pools with the waterfalls flowing down to the main pool. The breakfasts were fantastic with a full range of the usual cereals, yoghurts, pastries and onto the fully cooked breakfast options. People on this forum have mentioned the omelettes take too long but omelettes can take up to 4 minutes each to prepare. Perhaps they could have a second chef preparing omelettes but not everything can be instantaneous and other hotels we have stayed at have also always had a queue for freshly cooked pancakes/omelettes. We stayed half board and enjoyed the dinners very much. The salad range was extensive and varied throughout our time there. The staff are hard-working, polite and friendly without being over-imposing. The new hotel manager is ever present, very hands on and is a true gentleman. This hotel I feel is in very good hands with him on board. My daughter’s 5th birthday fell over the period we were there and he and his staff made a huge fuss of her. The whole waitering and kitchen staff presented her with a beautiful cake and sang happy birthday to her – we were all so touched as a family. Thank you for a lovely stay to all the staff at Pestana Vila Sol – we will certainly be back.
we travel a lot around the world, but this one takes some beating. We went for our evening meal into the restaurant(the only one)ordered cod along with vegetables and potatoes.First of all we had to wait for about 40 mins before the food arrived, bearing in mind there were only a few guests in the restaurant (we later realised why)The cod was still cold because it came out of the freezer, obviously not cooked properly, we did not complain and left it at that.we thought we will give it another try a couple of days later and ordered STEAK well done with potatoes and steamed vegetables.comes the STEAK with blood, the vegetables were a pot of stew and this was after about 40 mins.No apology from anybody. NEVER AGAIN at this hotel
We've been going to this hotel for the last 4+ years we like the same room in the main hotel! . I remember the hotel being built and thought then that it looked a good hotel. However over the years we've seen a steady decline in the quality of the room etc they are tired and need sorting. They are clean but need some tlc there is damage to curtains and fittings scratches on paintwork and doors a lick of paint would not go amiss. Breakfast is fine a fairly good choice a good 'egg' bar. We stayed for an evening meal which happened to be a spit roast pork joint it had been carved and the meat was therefore dry it was accompanied with small chicken pies and that was it ! there was plenty of fish dishes with rice and pasta but I found then to be also dry and bland especially the salmon. Not really a good meal and poor value for money. There are some maintenance issues to especially around the pool - loose pool ladders and planks on a bridge along with broken sunbeds and sun shades. The towels definitely need replacing and can be best described as rags. Apart from the above the hotel is fairly good the staff seem to be polite and courteous though sometimes a little slow when checking in. We will probably stay there again early next year and will hopefully see an improvement if there is no improvement I think I will look to stay elsewhere.
