the rooms are cleaned daily, food is good but the hotel do not do any evening entertainment for families, after 7 everybody need to either go to rooms to watch tv or go somewhere else to have some fun, which was quite dissapointing as we were expecting to have some nice time in hotel after dinnerer each day but we did not. i would not say the hotel has 4 stars i would rate as 2 or 3 maximum, for the price we paid i expected more....
I stayed at the hotel for a week with my family. First impressions weren't great as outside our room was gaping holes in the tiles covered by planks of wood and plastic bottles. However the rooms themselves were fine and clean. We had a nice view over the swimming pools. The pool area was nice, and my toddler loved splashing in the children's paddling pool. There was also plenty of sun beds and was never too busy. The pool bar was a disappointment, they serve very basic food which we didn't touch as looked awful. Also it's not manned all the time so often you would need to go and find someone to try and order from. I think it would really benefit from being open all day, and maybe having some music to liven it up A bit. The staff also appeared disinterested and didn't really make much effort to talk. Breakfast was included, but it wasn't great. There is a buffet of hot food, which is greasy eggs and poorly cooked bacon. There is fruit which is not fresh, but canned. And a choice of cereals. Also some cold meats which were not very nice and cheese. I'm glad we did not go half board as I dread to think what the dinner was like. The location is good as it's near the beach, I think some night time entertainment would have been good. Especially for the children, however this was not available. The bar itself in the hotel is pretty dull and again you have to hunt down someone to serve. The hotel has its faults, but could be really nice if they spent a bit of time and money on it.
Room was spacious, bed comfortable, air con. was fine. Shower was good and powerful although 2 showers one after the other caused the 2nd shower to be come tepid to cold, but not really an issue. Glass panel on door which was a bit of a pain when sun came up in morning, we were on first floor above restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, good choices. Pool areas spacious and appeared to be plenty of sun loungers available, good shaded areas also. Location is great while you are close to nearly everything wherever you are in Luz, this hotel really is well situated. Staff were knowledgeable, polite & reasonably friendly. Only major negative for me was the bar prices & that the bar closes at 11pm. In restaurants & bars in Luz a large beer was max. 3 euro, bottle of beer 1 - 2 euro. Hotel large beer was 4.5 euro & bottle 3 euro. Cup of tea in cardboard cup from pool bar was 2.5 euro. Hotel was quiet re noise levels. Couple of small negatives, but overall this hotel is very good & I would go back no problem. Shows as a 4 star, more of a 3 star plus.
The hotel is adequate and kept very clean. A little more investment to smarten it up is required. Staff helpful and friendly. Pool toilets urgently need refurbishment although they are kept clean. Super clean beach with good facilities a short walk away. Luz itself hasn't got much going on. Restaurants are expensive but the food is very nice. I would probably stay at another resort if I return to the Algarve as there isn't much to do in the way of entertainment or places to walk. I'm not after party nights but a little more to do. All in all a good relaxing peaceful holiday.
Bad experience, half star hotel sold as 4 star! This hotel was listed as a 4 star hotel, but the quality and service would not even rate half star . Dirty, very old furniture, the room very bad smell. We payed a lot of money for The Holiday, very dissapointed!
Basic but clean room with fridge, hair dryer and A/C. found beds very comfortable had good nights sleep. On the ground floor with large patio enclosed by hedge giving privacy. lovely grounds with two pools for families and an adults only pool. there is a pool bar selling drinks, ices and light lunches, (does a nice tuna sandwich). breakfast buffet good choice of cold meats cheese and salads, fruit, bacon, sausages, eggs cooked 3 ways, cereals, yogurt, etc. Beach and restaurants just a 5 minute walk away. a great base to enjoy your holiday
Clean room but sub standard. 2 star at most. Not 3 plus suggested by Jet 2. Very poor decor. Weeds growing all around. Very poor looking property. Could be so much better if some money spent on property. I know Portugal is struggling economically. Time for big holiday companies to put more money in.
Wasn't sure what to expect from this place or Luz on the whole for a family holiday. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and got room 117, can't fault the rooms in terms of cleanliness or decor, can't understand the reviews that say otherwise but then again I haven't seen all the rooms. But the pool area, pool bar, gardens, food area, reception etc are all fine, nothing a bit of weeding wouldn't solve and the buildings are really nice, pools cleaned daily, rooms cleaned daily to a good standard. My main issue was the location, with a 3 and 6 year old I was expecting to walk out to see restaurants and the beach, this isn't the case, both are 10 minutes walk with two youngsters, and restaurants are few and far between, you're definitely not spoilt for choice. I'd recommend chiccas for great food and service. If you're after a drink at night, you literally have to walk 20minutes down the Main Street which itself is 5 minutes up the road from hotel Luz bay. Then you get to Kelly's bar, the Luz tavern and also the dolphin restaurant but we found these quiet even on Saturday night. Back to the Hotel itself though, there's nothing at night at all, the bar serves you if you can find someone to attend the bar, it wouldn't hurt to have a singer or local guitarist or something down by the pool maybe. The information board speaks for itself, there's not much to do. Maybe with older children, the water sports would be an option but given that we're here during peak season there's not much going on. We only stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast is OK, just ok. The cake on offer has been consistently burnt and uncooked inside and the hot breakfast is really quite greasy, the choice is ok though and offers cereal, breads, cheeses, eggs etc. All in all, the hotel isn't 4 star but a decent 3. The beach is as good a beach as you're likely to find. Maybe next time though we'll look to a resort with a little more on offer for young children.
stayed at Luz bay hotel for 2 weeks in July. first impressions, were:- nice room, plenty of space. full size fridge that worked and a/c that was very effective, at no extra cost. safe in the wardrobe for 30 euro's for 2 weeks. 2 pools , 1 adults only, although quite a few people didn't understand that, and it wasn't enforced. Ample sunbeds, but only 2-3 umbrellas. pool bar serving drinks and snacks, not overpriced. We were B&B. breakfast was ok, some cereals, continental breads, meats & cheese. lots of fruit and English breakfast, this however was very greasy. Plenty of tables to sit, never a problem. great area for the beach which was superb, white sand. Sunbeds were a bit expensive at 12-14 euro's for 2. lots of water sports available. it appeared that there were very few restaurants. We had to google where they were. You will find plenty of places to eat , you just have to go looking around the cobbled streets. Get the bus to Lagos, great vibe and beautiful marina, lots to see and do. only 1.30 one way. all in all a lovely place, great for families.
This hotel is certainly not! a 4 star as advertised, On arrival in reception a fusty smell, probably the heavily stained setee disgusting! The grounds of this place are in great need of maintenance as are the walls, balconies, steps etc. Yes ok the lawns and gardens were ok but still in need of more maintenance. We were given room 131,the door wasnt easy to get in to again old and tired,On opening the door the smell hit you fusty and damp yuk!the fridge was old and rusty, chair upholstery stained overall felt very grubby. After speaking to reception we were moved to another room which had a new fridge and no stained furniture it was ok but fittings etc still very tired and dated. The room was cleaned daily hurray for the maids good job.👍Such a shame this place has been left to get so run down its a perfect location for the beach, bars and shops.I would visit this place again if it was totally gutted and Brought back upto its 4 star rateing as it probably was 10yrs ago.😕 l
