We knew the hotel wouldn’t be a luxurious place as what we paid wasn’t much, but definitely never expected the lack of care from whoever is running it. I do work in the same line of business and I know it’s not always easy to manage. We had a late check in, receptionist was warm and friendly ( as all I had the chance to speak to), well done reception Team. The hotel is simple, in urgent need of refurbish, but that’s no excuse for the incidents I’ve experience. Cleanings should be done on a daily basis, as well as beds. We’ve stayed for 9nights, (note on the wall says, bedding and bath sheets are changed every 3days), so, bedding was changed 1 time. Bath sheets 2 times, and the first time we were left with a rusty towel and the 2nd time, well, we opened the room door and we had 4 on the top of the bed, they were just left in the room. A total of 3 days without cleaning the room or making the bed. To add to this, 1 morning couldn’t shower as there was no hot water. Breakfast is really basic, poor, but it was all fresh.
Just stayed at this 'hotel'..First impressions very poor..room damp and mould on the walls..my clothes were damp even hanging in the wardrobe. The whole place wants an uplift. The pool was dryer than the room as it was empty. "Breakfast" was on the 6th floor and as the lift didn't work at times, meant climbing stairs..not good if you are not good on your feet. Breakfast consisted of bread, bread and more bread.some cartons of jam and some apples and oranges that looked like windfalls..The juice machine never had orange juice my entire stay and the coffee machine didn't work for two days as the water was running brown. Myself and other guests resorted to bringing in our own food bought in the town. The staff were friendly and the linen was changed every 3 days.. All in all poor hotel..location on the top of a hill..15min walk into town and a hike back all up hill..at least the view was good..(only thing)
We did book this after reading reviews so knew what to expect, we just wanted a base for the old town, a clean bed and a decent bathroom and we got all 3! after reading reviews from past guests we requested room 302 and got it! Clean, comfy bed and a refurbished bathroom. Yes, the hotel has seen better days and needs a bit of TLC (In fact a lot) but look at what you are paying? If you are looking for luxury avoid, if its a bang tidy cheap few days in the sun on a budget go for it!
I can honestly say that when we (a party of five adults) stayed at the Hotel de Gale (middle April) we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness as were rather worried after having read previous reviews. Our rooms were cleaned every day. They were tidy and spotless. All the staff were very courteous, not "aggressive" at all! You get what you pay for - no, there were no "English breakfasts": rolls, jams, cereals and fruit - but that has always been the typical Portuguese breakfast anyway! The only downside that I would comment on was walking back up the hill after a day out in the Old Town. I and my husband LOVE the old town, and have come back many times. One of our favourite places. If you want luxury, pay for it!
No water in pool. No loungers. disrespectful manager. Found (not my) hair in my mouth twice, dirty rooms Dirty brown water, Was told to run tap. 4 rooms in 12 hrs, reception saw us most. HOLIDAY RUINED
AVOID AVOID if your looking to book this hotel please dont i really have nothing good to say about this hotel the staff seem to hate all guests especially the ones on breakfast shift we went for breakfast 10 minutes before they closed and just got dirty looks the whole time and was asked to come earlier the following day as they wanted to finish and go back to bed tbey were only serving fruit and bread with coffee hardly a breakfast also while we were there the pool was empty with no water not great when it was over 30c the rooms r very basic probably not been updated fir about 30 years and the whole place seemed very dirty tbe only good tbing about this place is its only 10 minutes walk to the main town and beach will not be going back again
How they call themselves a Hotel- more of a hostel & even those are better standard. Had the misfortune to witness an abusive & aggressive receptionist screaming & shouting at a couple, I could still hear her from the road & going down the hill. Very basic room, had small balcony but on ground floor next to bins & where laundry was loaded from 7am & very very noisy. No ceiling fan or air conditioning, could not even leave bathroom window open as it opened up flat, easy access for a person. Breakfast should be looked at under Trade descriptions-bread roll & jam, squash & a coffee machine that did not work properly, not even a toaster. We brought cheese & ham for supermarket but with no fridge in room this was not a daily option- went into town for a superb breakfast for 2 euro. Staff had better lift than guests-modern with window & sounded 100% better, 1 lift only for whole hotel, did not trust so we used the stairs. Neither towels or sheets changed week there, no toiletries provided Came home early one night to try hostel bar-what a joke, passed the barman smoking outside the main stairs, that should have told us-bar open from 4pm-8pm Only slept in place, others leaving to go to other hotels Only good point-did have an electronic safe for 2 euro daily, due to thinness of door use if you are still consider this dump for a holiday. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Do not book the hotel!!!Rooms are really bad, beds not comfy, smell of damp,be aware Bed Bugs!!!!!Breakfast a big Joke-dry bread/butter/jam,5 minutes walk from the hotel local cafe-cheap can have full breakfast;fresh juice,coffee-from£3-£6.Location is perfect, but you can find a lots of hotels for almost same price and same location.Be aware c/in time is before 8pm,if you arrive at 8.15 pm your room will be sold and Reception will give you advise to sleep on the sofa in lobby area.DO NOT STAY HERE!
Great location in the Old town, very pleasant place. The beach is 10 min walk away. Staff is very helpful, very welcoming hosts. My friend and I were really nicely surprised. Thank you for our stay! 😊
The hotel could be a lot better if more money were invested in renovating it as a lot of areas are pretty run down. The maids cleaned all the outside areas and our room every day and linen and towels changed every 3 days. Also the staff were friendly. The hotel is suitable for very non fussy people who only want to use the hotel as a base as it is very close to the town of Albufeira, the beach and a nice marina. It is not suitable for those who like to spend time enjoying hotel luxuries. The rooms are basic and tired, there is no hairdryer or tea/coffee making facilities and you only get one very small pillow and a blanket each. The bathroom was clean but desperately needed renovation as the bath's surface was extremely worn away so that a large part of the bath was a different colour in places, especially around the plug hole and we had a problem with a really bad smell of drains coming up which the hotel solved by filling the sink and B Day overflow holes with silicone. (We were told that the hotel are in the process of renovating all the bathrooms). The windows were only held closed with one fastening so we had to wedge them partly open with a flip flop if we wanted any air so they wouldn't bang around in the wind. Also we had to put a sock in the main door to wedge as it rattled badly from breeze in the night. The roof top terrace view is stunning and the pool on the roof is very clean but small. We enjoyed an afternoon sitting on the roof by the pool which was very enjoyable but space is limited. Breakfast also basic and help yourself buffet style. It consists of cereal, bread rolls, jam, oranges, apples and juice and coffee from a machine. Some crockery is chipped and cracked but this and cutlery was clean. We are not fussy and can cope with the types of problems mentioned but one big downfall for us was when we arrived to check in. We were told that we had to be located to another hotel for one night as they had plumbing problems. They called us a taxi to take us there (which we were expected to pay for ourselves). They booked us in at hotel Turel Park which, although in a great location for some was a nightmare for us. It was a place designed for teenagers who want to enjoy the nightlife. It was right in the middle of town and being an older couple we were kept awake until 5am with thumping music that was so loud it was thumping and vibrating through the floor, not to mention shouting and swearing drunks just below our balcony. Also the hotel was pretty basic and didn't even have a bedroom. We had to sleep on two wooden sofas that served as beds. I hardly slept and couldn't wait to leave. We were told to take a taxi back to De Gale in the morning for breakfast, which we did just after 8am. We were told that they don't usually reimburse for taxi fares but they did refund us after we complained. We were then told we couldn't have our room until after 2pm so had to spend the next day trying to live out of our suitcases.
