We went to Portimao with my friend for 7 days and stayed in Hotel Globo. The recepcionist was not the kindest person I've ever met, but it was ok. The room was cheap but also just a casual room. There was no mini fridge which was quite uncomfortable in the middle of summer, because we couldn't cool down our drinks. Also there was an air conditioner or something like that on the wall but it wasn't working. Also annoying and uncomfortable. The hotel was far from the beach, about 50 minutes by walk. Despite of these things, there was nothing wrong with the hotel. It worth the price, because it was really cheap.
Stayed here for a week and overall the experience was pretty good. We had a very noisy aircon unit so they offered us a room change the next day. Great views from the restaurant. Staff were a little slow doing what they needed but friendly enough.
My girlfriend and I (mid 20s) have just returned from a week long stay at hotel globo. We booked last minute and after reading the reviews on this site we were very worried that the hotel was going to be terrible. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, the staff were all friendly, the room was clean, it was much better than expected. Some people wrote about a bad smell in the area, this is the smell of the sea! The air conditioning wasn't amazing but it worked fine and if left on when you are out the room is lovely and cool by the time you get back. It's close to shops and the river where there is a market. The walk to the beach is slightly far but only a 15/20 min walk or 5 mins in a taxi which costs about 5 euro. All in all the hotel was perfect for what we wanted, it's not The Ritz but for a place to sleep and chill out for siesta it's perfect. If this hotel "ruined your holiday" as some have stated, you must be an awful snob!
Staff were amazing at hotel globo. They made us feel welcomed and valued. Would definitely stay again facilities were perfect and breakfast was wonderful. Very close to shops and the beach couldn't of Asked for anything else. Definitely going to stay longer next time!
The only good thing about this hotel? The price. Beds: -Not even sure they are mattresses. They are low to the ground and feels like sleeping on springs. A/C -Air comes out, just not cold Breakfast buffet -food isn't that great
We booked to stay here for a week but only lasted here 3 nights before we changed hotels! There was no air-con in the rooms (but it always seemed to be working in reception) which we could just about put up with. When asked when it would be fixed we were told a man was coming to fix it tomorrow. On the day we left there was no cold water which me and my partner relied on to keep cool with cold showers. We complained about this to be sent a non-English speaking maid to our room to try to explain to me which way to turn the tap to get cold water even though it was still hot! With nothing been done about it or no apologies we moved hotel!
Nothing positive about this place I wouldn't even call it a hotel. Awful smell in the area makes your stomach turn. Imagine air conditioning not working and when you open the window to let some air in you get that smell combined with the heat in the room makes you want to vomit. When reported to staff nothing was done about it. No parking with the hotel, had to park on the street and it takes a long time to find parking. Food was revolting. We had breakfast included but ended up eating out. Cleanliness doesn't exist in the Globo hotel. Wifi doesn't work in the bedrooms. Hotel is far away from the beach. Staff very rude and argumentative when approached about air conditioning and wifi not working. No shops or restaurants around. In general this is the worst hotel I ever been to and certainly not coming back here. Pictures of the hotel do not match reality. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IT WILL RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY!!!
firstly the air con wasn't working and every day we asked and every day it was the same the engineer was coming tomorrow - after a week there was a no show. So we had to have the door to the balcony open during the night - and the noise was bedlam. AND the drains were vile - it felt as though we needed a break from our holiday, my husband and I were wore out. Then the wifi stopped working - and yet again the engineer was coming - by this time I was laughing hysterically - the breakfast was soooooo boring - the same items every single day - and it is being classed as a boutique hotel - which it is not - holes in sheets and towels - the carpets were a disgrace - NOT, and I repeat NOT worth the money - nothing good to say about.
as Hotels go this was a great dissapointment; it has taken me nearly a year to get down to write this. The room was OK ,of a reasonable size for a 3 star hotel, but the hotel amenities were deplorable, every day on returning to the Hotel,on getting out of the lift we had this terrible `fishy` smell` enoughto turn your stomach;we ended up buying floral sparays to try to hide the smell;hotel told it was something to do with tidal river? The evening meals were a disaster, the restaurant was only set up for a few people, the food of very little selection was only barely warm enough to eat,so we just stocked up on salad, the desserts were nearly non existant,we unfortunately got caught up in the LOWCOST HOLIDAYS fiasco, and had to repay the Hotel;not their fault;but there first request was for E1,200 based on their daily rate for 2 people half board, luckily Ihad the paper work that Ihad saved showing the deal they had with the hotel;this was for E72O.0 ,Irefused to pay E1200 but agreed to pay the latter which was eventually accepted bythe owners as you can imagine for an older couple; Iwas 82 and my wife 79 ,this was most distessing. Portimao is quite a large town, but very very run down, the majority of the shops were closed, particularly on the side streets, and when looking from the Hotel over the rooftops, houses that looked fine from the front ,had no roofs on or were uninhabated;having said this ;the Riverside promenade was great, and some of the `sardine` restaraunts were very good indeed,we wished now, hindesight being a great science;that it is,we had chosen Pria de Roche instead, a very negative review as I usualy try to find the best in things things; just hoping that the Hotel proves better in future.
We stayed here as a quick visit to Portugal before the arrival of our first baby. The beds were so uncomfortable and had springs sticking out. The room doesn't have a kettle to get a drink and the bar is occasionally open so your left walking to the shops for a drink. The inclusive food was cooked although very cold. One out of 8 meals was warm! The pictures are not a true reflection on the room and no information about the service or amenity's, and very little info about the local town. We will not be returning to this hotel! Upon leaving a couple were moaning about the awful beds and reception smiled and hoped they would get some sleep on the aeroplane home!! Would not bother booking!
