This was my first holiday in Portugal and I was with my wife, daughter and grandson. For a family holiday his hotel ticked all the boxes. The checking in was painless, the receptionist was polite and efficient. We arrived early and were told that the room wasn’t ready. We were given a couple of hours to wait, but we were all given wrist bands so that we could use the facilities and eat and drink until the room was ready. The room was modern, spacious and clean. The only downside was we were above the dining room and were woken every morning by chairs being scraped across the floor. The swimming pools were very good, a large one with a swim up bar that held all the entertainment and sports and a much quieter smaller one, which was the one we used. The only down side was that neither were heated and were cold when you first got in. The dining rooms were the same as all the other riu hotels I have stayed at. The food was of a good quality but after a time became repetitive, but there was always something you would like. The only minus about the hotel was the entertainment venue for the evenings. It opened out onto a large outside seating area with lots of sliding doors. This meant that the hot air from outside went into the venue and made it uncomfortably hot. All in all a good hotel and I would recommend it to a family looking for a reasonably priced hotel of a good standard
Had a wonderful 2 weeks at Riu Guarana during October half term. Atmosphere: 100% definitely this hotel has the best atmosphere of any AI family hotel I have stayed at. The staff are so lovely and you really get to know them. The Manager is always around and it feels like you are staying with a lovely big family. When I left I felt I was leaving a second home. It is a very relaxed place and everyone is always super welcoming and friendly and helpful. You never get the feeling that anything is too much trouble. Entertainment: Definitely the best hotel entertainment I have ever experienced. I usually find this sort of thing pretty cringey but Matteo and his team are SO funny. Special mention to Brazilian Rafael. He is hilarious in everything he does and an amazing dancer. Loved watching him do the Aqua Gym classes (not that I participated in them)! Kid's Club: The girls were really nice and this was the first hotel kid's club my son has ever wanted to go to so that's saying something. Unfortunately on many of the days there weren't really enough kids in there but that is probably because we weren't there in the high season. Restaurant: Really lovely food. Good variety. Lots of salad and fresh fish. Very special mention to David. Lovely guy, really made a fuss of my son and kept him amused which was nice as my son can be a bit of a pain in a restaurant! Housekeeping: My room was cleaned really well every day. Liked the rabbit (some debate over whether it was a lobster) made out of towels with eyes stuck on. Very cute. Hotel: Lovely, decor all very modern, spotlessly clean. Pools really nice. Swim up bar not open in October probably. Only downside I would say of this hotel is that it doesn't have a splash pool with play equipment in. There is a kids shallow pool which my son played very happily in though. A splash pool with some slides, pirate ship type thing would really make this hotel perfect. Hotel has a disco which is entertaining and good for a late drink. Also means you can get a few more hours out of your AI drinks :) Also, the safes in the room are free. Aircon could have been a bit more forceful. I had a room on the 4th floor and had beautiful views of the town and the sea and the sunset. Rooms are very well soundproofed. Couldn't hear a thing from neighbouring rooms. Slept really well here. Other Guests: Mostly families and some older people in groups with some younger people and younger couples. Very friendly bunch. Managed to meet quite a few people to have good laugh with made some new friends and have stayed in touch with them since returning. Location: Very easy walk down into the village and the village beach. Takes about 7 minutes. All downhill. When I say hill it is basically a slope, not the steep hill I was expecting from some of the reviews. If you turn right out of the hotel you can walk to the other beach. There are wooden stairs down to the beach. Again, I didn't find it particularly difficult to walk back up them. Maybe depends on your level of fitness. Beautiful beach. Bar: Last but definitely not least, the bar. Really good that beer and soft drinks are self service at various points around the hotel (also in the restaurants). Means you don't have to stand queuing for ages as I have experienced in some other hotels. Cocktails, Prosecco, all spirits everything on AI. Cannot fail to mention the bar staff, they are all so lovely. Nuno 'the peanut' is so funny, Julian constantly smiling he is so sweet. I feel bad to mention names because they were all great but I can't remember everyone's name. Also the really sweet young guy who goes around all day and night collecting the glasses. But the biggest mention has to go the wonderful, amazing, beautiful Valerio! VALERIO, VALERIO, VALERIO! Love this guy. Only wish i could have brought him home with me. What a sweetie!
We stayed here for a week in July and it was the best holiday I've been on yet! The hotel was fantastic with very spacious rooms and bathroom. There were 3 separate restaurants within the hotel, all of which provided lovely food with a great variety every night. The hotel also offered free bottles of water from reception which is good to know should you need it. The pool and outside areas were great and nothing negative could be said about it. There is a night club at the hotel which although was never overly busy on the nights we went, it was a good laugh nevertheless. Last of all, the animation team were out of this world!! Never come across such lovely and funny people and it is so obvious how much their hearts are in ensuring everyone there has the best holiday. In the evenings also they put on some fantastic shows and entertainment which had everyone laughing! I could 100% recommend this hotel to families and couples alike and would hope to return at some point.
Spent a week here in October, our second visit. The rooms have been updated, our room had a pool view, was large and airy and kept impeccably clean throughout our stay. Food was as expected in an All Inclusive resort, somewhat samey, but always something to eat. Drinks were perfectly acceptable, never had to wait too long to be served. The evening entertainment was not our cup of lea, so spent most evenings in one of the bars in town, about a 5 minute walk away, which had live music, lovely to just sit and watch the world go by. Never saw an unwelcoming, unsmiling or unhappy face in the hotel all week, the staff are a credit to the Hotel. Would probably return, but earlier in the season.
Sold as being an exclusive resort, this 4* was terrible and been in better 3* resorts. If you paid £300 for a week, yes great value for money, you get what you bought. Anymore more than that and its robbery. Food- all cooked from frozen (confirmed this with staff) Alcohol-. Besides the super-bock the concoction of cheap alcohol provided was terrible Sunbeds- Some issues never go away (couldnt get any) The problem with this place is that it goes for the mass produced product, try to fill up all rooms at the expense of the customer experience, if you dont mind waiting for dinner, or eating poor quality food, drinks thats ok, and if I paid a low enough amount, I dont mind. But for the image that you are sold, and for the cost. It is definitely not worth it. oh and quote unquote " we dont vaccum the floors of the rooms because there is no carpet in them"
Stayed for 10 days on the 5th October. Reading negative comments on here really put me off !! Wish I hadn’t bothered reading them . This hotel and all it’s staff and surroundings is beautiful. Absolutely spotless in every corner . Food and drink was plentiful and great . Frozen cocktails are very strong but taste great . Local beer on tap 24 / 7 I think . The entertainment are amazing they work so hard and entertaining everyone every night can’t be east . The little nightclub ( late bar ) is nothing but when you want a drink it’s good enough . My room was amazing and beautiful and great sea views . The walk down to the little beach is a incline and walking back up can be gruelling in the heat but manageable . Local bus right outside the hotel and local supermarket about 10 minute walk away . We walked to villamoura took about 3 hours along the beach 26 klm there and back . Husband got a tattoo at Popeyes . He loves it and there owner was great worth a visit if you like tattoos . Loads of trips to do and loads of car park spaces if you get a car hire . No cats or dogs in the area nothing to spoil your stay . Just a great place to go and 100% will go back .
Second time at this hotel the rooms have been refurbished to a good standard warrants 4 stars for this , the entertainment room has a nice new floor better than previous multi coloured carpet which after a few drinks made you feel a bit giddy. As for the entertainment well the Grease show was with the original soundtrack but was mimed to by the entertainment staff what is the point !!! and it was the same show two and a half years ago no originality there was also a one hour belly dancing show what a bellyful of tosh come on Riu get some decent tribute acts like the Atlantica in Kolymbia Rhodes . The food in the restaurent was very basic the same thing every lunch and dinner grilled pork , chicken and fish , pizzas were doughy and tasteless when we came to this hotel before you was greeted by the management in the restaurent who summoned the head waiter to you this didn't happen once in the week we were there not good in my opinion. The hotel is very clean the staff work very hard in everywhere department but there is no interaction from the staff they are very robotic , the weather while we was there was superb the reason we came to this hotel for the week we did was my wife's 50th birthday we mentioned it to the Thomson shop we booked with two weeks before we travelled but there wasn't a mention of it in our week in the hotel very dissappointed. Overall great location not far from Albuferia and Vilamoura but we will not be returning not until this hotel updates its entertainment and menu choices from the dark ages.
Visited this hotel from 12th to 19th October. Overall a very good hotel great pools good service in all areas.Food was of a reasonable standard but served in a very noisy enviroment just like canteen.Entertainment was a bit hit and miss, performed by the hotel animation team.
Both my husband and I felt we really needed a break after my hip replacement in April and his disabling arthritis. We usually go to Calabria in Italy and we really love it, but it is a long journey as there are no flights to Lamezia Airport from Liverpool or Manchester. During a conversation with my friend she mentioned that she had booked a week in Club Hotel Olhos D'Agua, with 'loveholidays' as her husband also has mobility problems and said it looked ideal. Having looked it up and perused all the photos, we booked two weeks to coincide with their holiday period. We could not go on the 'tour' to find the beach due to difficulty walking.and were really disapointed as the pictures led us to believe that the steps down to the beach were somewhere near the end of the gardens! Beachside is always our priority as we love to swim in the sea - if it's warm of course! We had intended to swim a lot during our holiday for therapy. So we resigned ourselves to use the hotel pool for our swimming - but the water was SO VERY COLD we only managed a few 'quick dips'. I found the Jacuzzi which we enjoyed, but even the indoor pool was icy. Our initial impression of the food was very favourable, and of high quality. Unfortunately as we were eating our lunch and I was enjoying my chicken noodle soup, my spoon was poised and I looked down and there was a MAGGOT! After initially gagging I called over the waiter to show him and said I felt sick! He said sorry, and said 'I will take it to the kitchen - NOW!' Needless to say the appetite of all four of us was ruined. The waiter returned and shrugged his shoulders and said he was very sorry, but it happens! I WAS NAUSEAUS FOR THE WHOLE DAY AND COULD NOT EAT ANYTHING and for the rest of my holiday I was searching the food on my plate in case there were more.- I became paranoid as I didn't know if I had actually eaten any! The maggot was about 15mm (just over 1/2') Long - the length of my thumbnail. I was so upset during that afternoon, and hated to spoil my friends' holiday too. We checked a while later and the soup was still there and people were still serving themselves with it! I went to reception and informed the young man that I wanted to lodge an official complaint. Initially he said it was not a matter for reception but the kitchen, but agreed to make a note of it and promised he would 'pass it on'. I gave him my room number. I heard nothing at all about it during the rest of our stay. As if that was not enough, three days later my husband found a long length of black hair in his ice cream! So then ice cream, which we were really enjoying, was 'off the menu' too.I seriously question the hygene regime iof the kitchen, and wonder what the standards of rating are. The room we had was lovely, no problems at all there, and we really appreciated the fridge and water bottles supplied. The balcony was small but adequate - all in all the hotel ticked almost all the boxes except for the question of food hygene, the freezing cold pool, ALSO too many children allowed to run around with water guns making everyone uncomfortable during our last week, many misleading photos in the advert showiing the 'nearness' of the beach, and it would have been nice to have tea-making facilities in the room. We really enjoyed the evening entertainment, hats off to the energetic entertainment manager and his team! Not sure if would be happy to book again to be honest - the maggot put me off, as it did all fourn of us.
Stayed at this hotel for the fourth time at the begining of October. The staff here are outstanding, we have travelled all over the world and the management team are the best we have ever come across, Manager Miguel and his two assistants are a great example to rest of the staff. My husband always says this is his favourite hotel, I like it too, but...... why on earth did you remove the luxury carpet in the main bar and the restaurant. In my opinion it has made the restaurant so noisy and canteen like, rather than the nice restaurant it used to be. Similarly, in the main bar, the carpet has been replaced with awful dark flooring. It seems a backward step and takes away the luxury feel that the hotel used to have. Please don't remove the carpet in the corridors outside the rooms, the noise would be unbearable. Still love the food, particularly the Asian restaurant. Still love the area. Still love everything about this hotel, and I am sure my husband will persuade me to return sometime . If you are thinking of booking, go ahead, you will have a great time in a fabulous hotel and will be well looked after. Forgot to mention Matteo, lovely, so funny.
