We have just had a week's holiday at this hotel. Room was clean and spacious. More wardrobe and cupboard space than usual. The overall feel of the hotel was spacious and clean. Food was a wide choice and well prepared and presented. This hotel is especially good for families. All the staff were friendly and efficient Very good entertainment of an evening. Would recommend and return in the future

Lovely hotel. Room was excellent - pool view, clean, spacious, comfortable bed. Staff were friendly. Food was excellent. I am coeliac and follow a gluten free diet. Chefs were available to advise what I could and could not eat. Gluten free bread was readily available on request and the gluten free baguettes were the best I have ever tasted. Our first holiday in a Riu hotel but it will not be the last.

This is a great hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious. The air con is not great but it’s better than nothing. The food is good although not keen on some of the all inclusive drinks. It would be great to have a choice of more low sugar drinks. The entertainment is ok but a bit repetitive. However I can’t fault the energy and commitment of the entertainment staff. The manager and his deputy are very dedicated and always approachable. Infact all the staff are polite and helpful. Would visit again without question.

Just back from a week at the Rui Guarana and so impressed with my 1st visit to the Algarve. Big hotel in a lovely quiet area and just a minutes stroll from an amazing beach. Staff, room, food and facilities all excellent. Pool and gardens immaculate. Would definitely recommend this hotel to all and I will definitely return at some point in the future

Having stayed in a Riu hotel in Tenerife we knew that we would be holidaying with alot of people in a big hotel, in fact its more like a cruise ship ENORMOUS. Which is exactly what we expected. Its was gloriously hot and being October there wasn't many children, I understand that its completely different in the summer months in school holidays. Faro Airport: The airport is being renovated so is very busy both on arrival and departure - expect to queue. Please don't moan about having to wait we are all in the same situation. (British people will complain about ANYTHING). We flew with Thomson and it seems to be the biggest airline there so gets the biggest queues! Room: I had already emailed the hotel directly to ask for a high floor room overlooking the pool and we got room 525 which was fantastic. The benefit of being higher up is the view, the sunset and its nice and quiet. I can imagine that the lower rooms suffered alot with noise from the entertainment and late diners but we were very happy. Large room, balcony with 2 chairs. Free safe. Comfy bed, hot shower. The air-con was poor but the ceiling fan was great. Dining: I am sure you have read lots of reviews about this and other all inclusive hotels so lets get it straight. The restaurant is huge, yes its a bit of a bun fight if you go when it opens but the food is hot, plentiful and lots of choice. You will not go hungry!. If the food becomes repetitive its because you put a little bit of everything on your plate so you don't miss out (well that was us anyway). They cater for every type of nationality, diet, age and taste. To run such a huge operation whilst keeping the food coming and the tables cleared deserves a big round of applause. If you want a little more calm you can be seated outside where the tables are larger. You get seated inside or out then its all self service, the only time you get drinks served is at breakfast with coffee pots. The management are always about to help out which was good to see. Drinks: Pool bar during the day. Never had to wait. Slush cocktails, non branded drinks behind the bar. Self service cokes etc. and beer on tap. All lovely. Evening bar again no queue or very short one. Prompt service plenty of choice. I believe the swim-up bar is open in the summer but its closed in October. Pool: The hotel has all nationalities so we didn't hear many English, who cares! everyone was well behaved around the pool. You had the usual sunbed towel situation but there were loads of beds so not fussed. Alot of beds alot of people. Entertainment: They worked really ruddy hard. Everything was in about 5 languages so it must of been really hard to keep everyone happy. Pretty cheesy and entertaining. Bingo, water aerobics, evening shows, something for everyone if you wanted to join in. Don't like it? don't join in! in the evening sit outside enjoy the fresh air, have a late dinner (open until 10pm!) sit round the pool, the hotel lobby or wander into town for a drink. Location: Please go to the welcome meeting with the Angelo the Thomson rep who was fantastic and knowledgeable and takes you on a walk around the area so you get your bearings. He has some really good bits of information too. Lovely guy. On reading the reviews I expected the hotel to be out in the sticks but in fact its in quite a built up area and is surrounded by other hotels. You can see the sea but over the roofs which is still lovely. There are several beaches 1 which is left out of the hotel and through the town and 1 is right up the hill and then down alot of steps (its a cliff face) down to an enormous beautiful sandy beach. Worth the trek. The town has about 8 restaurants/ bars and a few shops. The town is really pretty to sit around and watch the world go by, its also very cheap!. Trips: We went to Albufeira during the day, its a tourist town with more beautiful beaches. Lots of shops and bars. I am pretty sure its party central at night! very cheap in a taxi ordered by the hotel about 15 mins away. We also went on a boat ride with Thomson which had a beach BBQ and little boats that went round the sea caves. Really lovely. GO! you will have a great time.

So decided to try a RIU as we never had & this one came up at a reasonable price. We were there 8-15th October. We didn’t know what kind of weather to expect, as it can be dodgy, but we were very lucky....wall to wall sunshine & 26c every day & only lowering to about 17c at night! I emailed the hotel before arrival requesting a room on the top floor & as far away from the lift as possible, which we got exactly what we asked for (room575) I was determined to keep up my exercise routine so always used the stairs & it was 500 steps for each journey up & down so I ate & drank everything I wanted & gained no weight!! On the arrival the hotel is at the top of Olhos d‘Água. On entering the reception hasn’t got the wow factor of other 5* hotels I’ve been to, but I noticed it is officially a 4* and it’s TUI that give it a 5T rating.... We had to wait to check in for only 5 mins as receptionist gives you a drink & personally tells you all the info you need. We then went to the room & I couldn’t fault it. Very clean & tidy with nice new furniture and a really comfy superkingbed with a new thick memory foam mattress. The room had a good view of the ocean and the pool. Bathroom towels are brown & very thin & small ( I think new ones are needed) Previous reviews say there is no English tv, but we kept flicking through & found quite a few ITV, BBC & a news channel & others! Food over the week was good & all perfectly edible. The only thing was lunch was almost identical to dinner, but it was all hot. Perhaps if they had a theme night it would work? Instead of having everything available every night? (I tried to stick to salad& a main for lunch & veg & a main for dinner). The dining room was hot, so we sat near the door where the breeze blows through a bit! Outside seating was available, but you had to queue! I liked that food couldn’t be taken from the restaurant, so no one sitting on sun-beds eating chips!! 👍👍 Dress code in restaurant was none existent......Men in shorts, woman in anything, (and perhaps they ought to implement something as all 4/5 star hotels I’ve visited send men in shorts out of evening meal) But no swim wear allowed in the restaurant! Entertainment staff were good going round & chatting to guests & asking for participants in activities, I didn’t bother but plenty did! There was plenty of sun-beds, but loads were taken early on. But never a problem getting one. In previous reviews there are moans about towel change between 9&1pm only..... basically a guy stands in reception from 9am with a big trolley of freshly laundered towels & u can change as much as you like, if at the end of the day u want to change, you can’t ......you have to take it to your room & do it the next day! It’s no problem & if u want to have 3 towels extra for your stay you can pay 10euros for each extra towel & as long as you return them all at the end, you will get 10 euros per towel back!! Evening entertainment was quite good, a mixture of serious dancing & some fun games, in a big theatre style room, and outside too as it was nice weather! Drinks at night are not waiter served, you have to help yourself or go to the bar for spirits. But there was never much queue & the staff were efficient. They clean up constantly removing glasses day & night so there is never any mess anywhere. If you want to sit up in reception on the sofas & have a drink you have to fetch them from the bar. Very nice & quiet at night, show ends at 10.30, music is off at 11pm & most guests go to bed, but the bar will serve till midnight. Then a disco was open till 1.30am but I never went. I never heard any noise in the night & we slept with our patio door wide open. I liked that the whole site was secure & that the only entrance was through the main reception and everywhere else had a high fence around making it secure, which in this day & age is a good thing! Overall it’s a nice hotel with a good mix of old & young guests, in a nice resort & I will go back at some point... Thankyou RIU Guarana...👍

1st trip to Portugal and what a wonderful hotel to stay at from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were absolutely Fabuloooos nothing was too much trouble needed to get up early to join the towel brigade( only if you wanted a special place) 5 steps to the bar 3 steps to the pool, Food was excellent even the fussiest of eaters were catered for DRINKS BEER(SUPER BOCK) Soft drinks & water all on self serve cocktails and spirits from excellent bar staff special mention to Augusto, Many thanks to Matteo and his team of entertainers especially JOEL, Many thanks to Miguel and his staff for an excellent holiday already booked next Riu Vistamar Gran Canaria for January 2018

We choose the Riu Guarana club hotel in Olhos d'Agua, Algarve, Portugal, for our honeymoon destination, in July 2017, and it didn't disappoint. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, close to the beach, with a few souvenir shops and bars/restaurants, along the way to the sea front. There was a mix of family's with children, as well as couples, the duration of our stay was 7 days, all inclusive. The staff were friendly and hard working, our room on the forth floor, had a sea view and overlooked both of the swimming pools, the room had a balcony with table and chairs, the room was equipped with air-conditioning, television, fridge, plenty of storage for personal items, a comfortable double bed. A safe, inside the wardrobe for locking away your valuables. The en-suite bathroom was a nice size with an over the bath shower, basin, toilet and a bidet. The towels were changed daily and the maid kept our room clean and tidy. There were lifts to all floors as well as stairwells. The hotel had three restraunts, one of them was the main dining hall, the other two you had to book the day before to reserve a table, you had a choice of either an Asian night or a grill. The food was amazing with lots to choose from to suit everyone. There were bars situated outside by the pool area, one of them built into the pool, the staff were always on hand to serve you, again with a good selection of drinks, alcoholic or non alcoholic. We did not use the sports areas during our stay, but the choice was there, also there was an indoor pool, but we mostly used the outside swimming pools, with a card you could hire a towels to use for the pool side. No problem with the sunbeds, as there was plenty for everyone. The evening entertainment was enjoyable. Reception staff were always friendly and helpful, if you needed a taxi to get around they would call one for you at the desk. During our stay we did visit Albuferia and really enjoyed it, the taxi ride was reasonably priced. Overall we were glad we choose the Riu Guarana club hotel, as we really enjoyed our honeymoon there and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Portugal in the future.

First off the staff are fantastic, so friendly, helpful, always smiling and can speak a multitude of languages which is impressive. The entertainment team although slightly cheesy for my taste, work incredibly hard day and night with a number of different activities to suit all ages I couldn’t believe how hard they work to ensure everybody Is having a good time from aqua aerobics, volleyball to dance classes to name a few and then they do the evening entertainment. The hotel is clean and rooms are lovely with comfortable beds and you can get free bottled water whenever you want which is handy. They also give you towels to use for the pool and take to the beach so you don’t have to take your own, however I do feel that the towels they provide in your room and for the pool do need replacing as they aren’t the most comfortable but they do the job. The downside was the food, Breakfast was probably the best food they served. We did try the grill and Asian restaurant the grill restaurant basically was the same food as the main restaurant and the Asian was ok. Luckily there are some fantastic restaurants down the road which we loved. We stayed on the first floor overlooking the pool which was a fantastic view but the doors aren’t soundproof so in the night if people are drinking on the patio of the bar it can be very loud and difficult to sleep however friend of ours were in another part of the complex overlooking the car park and they could hear nothing. Lastly the air conditioning during the night Is rubbish so if it’s hot be prepared I had read in other reviews that they turn it down at night. It was hot. The town the hotel is in is small but does have many lovely bars and restaurants and the beach Is fantastic you can hire 2 loungers with shade for around 25€ for the day. The hotel do provide many excursions and the front of staff are helpful and knowledgable. Overall I did enjoy our trip but taking everything in to consideration I feel the hotel Is overpriced for what you get.

We stayed here at the beginning of September, the weather was glorious - not a cloud in the sky! This hotel is absolutely spotless and the staff are forever cleaning, the staff are unbelievably hard working and very polite and friendly. We are both vegetarians and we always found something tasty to eat. Ignore the bad reviews about the food there is so much choice and it is lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed the slush cocktails particularly nice and cooling when sunbathing 😎 You can help yourself to water, soft drinks, coffee, tea and beer at the pool bar. But if you fancy Something else you can go to the bar. The service there is extremely quick. You can bottles of water from reception whenever you want. We didn't have a pool view but to be honest we didn't care. The beds are so comfortable and one of the best we have ever had on holiday. There are plenty of sunbeds and you are given a card to get a pool towel which you can change as many times as you want. Overall we had an absolutely amazing time and we would without a doubt return - can't wait to return!!
