Amazing staff - they really were the friendliest people and willing to help. Nice hotel with ok facilities. If you're looking for a hotel for a family holiday, this is the place. However, if you are a couple looking for a quiet or romantic time - stay clear! The husband and I wanted a cheap and easy break in the sun for a week - seeing that the weather could still be changable we booked the Riu Guarana thiking, well at least they have a gym and indoor pool if the weather is bad. The reality was small children running around squealing and shrieking the whole time - even in the indoor pool, whirlpool AND steam room. You can't even go to the bar or reception area for peace and quiet. If you weren't the first down to the restaurant for the breakfast, lunch and dinner sittings, be prepared to queue. The constant dodging running, noisy children was the only real downside to our holiday and next time we'll pay more and go down the road to the TUI Blue (which we checked out and was like a piece of heaven in comparison) .

Excellent service all around. Every one from cleaning ladies, Bar staff, Restaurant staff and not forgetting the management were excellent.Mr.Miguel Pinheiro Director/ Manager and two other directors.... can be seen every where Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Also seen him by the pool hands on where ever needed. My only tiny criticism may be with the food. It can be little improved. I will surely go back soon and enjoy another fabulous week there.

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Riu Guarana and I was going to mark this hotel down after our check in fiasco but the week just got better and better. It seems all flights arrive at the same time and so four or five coach loads of guests turn up on this hotels doorstep all at once and after a long journey, the last thing you want is to have to queue outside the hotel just to try and check in! We arrived and there was already a large amount of ppl waiting outside the hotel with their suitcases trying to get in. We got off our coach and joined the queue and could see that there were staff handing out wristbands and taking luggage off the guests to get them in the hotel quicker. As we were waiting, another coach load of people arrived and joined the never ending queue. Once we were inside the manager told us to go and grab a coffee and come back to check in, we decided to just join the check in queue as we wanted to get to our room asap. Once checked in (30 minutes after arriving) we went to our room on the fifth floor to unpack and get away from the madness of check in. Here we decided that the hotel had done the best they could with a couple of hundred guests all turning up at the same time! We then received a call from reception to apologise for the inconvenience of check in and if there was anything they could do which was nice. Once we had sorted ourselves out we went to explore what was on offer around the hotel and went back to reception to find a much calmer place! The hotel has two very large pools and a lot of sunbeds on offer but beware, the water is extremely cold but you get used to it once you're in 😄. Also there is a pool bar were you can grab a drink for when you're lazy it around the pool. As it was only April, the swim up bar wasn't open but this didn't bother us as we didn't go in the cold water 😀. You are given a fresh towel everyday that can be exchanged at reception anytime during the day. On to eating........what can I won't go hungry!! The main restaurant has so much on offer through out the day, there will always be something you will like! Also you get a chance to eat at either the grill restaurant or Asian restaurant which is located in a different restaurant to the main one. We booked to eat in the grill restaurant one night and found that it pretty much serves the same food as the main restaurant but is just less busy. The hotel has a group of people called the animation team which carry out activities throughout the day and also run the entertainment of an evening in the main bar. We would come and watch the show every night and we enjoyed this massively. They are a very talented group of people who will keep you entertained. Overall our stay here was really nice and if you can get past the crazy check in, you will enjoy every minute of your stay. 5*

I'm writing this review while we are still here. Wow! RIU have got it so right. This is a very well run and well executed family hotel. A lot of hotels should take note of how it's done by making a booking and bringing their notebooks! My wife and I can't fault the facilities, the cleanliness, the staff or the food. Even a room change (due to a baby in the next room being very vocal) was dealt with immediately and with no fuss! The good bits: FREE fast (70MB) wifi over the entire resort for two devices without having to constantly reconnect A FREE safe in your room that is big enough to put a laptop into A very comfortable bed! A high standard of furnishings FREE towels (but don't lose one or you can expect to pay for it) PLENTY of beds and parasols! And if in the unlikely event that you can't find either they will get them for you! Plenty of dispensers (with ice) for Coke, Coke Zero, Water, Fanta Orange, Lemonade, fruit juices, beer, wine, tea and coffee that you can help yourself with no limits instead of having to queue or have restrictions (the two drink only rule) This is in addition to the bars where friendly staff serve good measured quality drinks. Free 1.5 litre bottles of water available from reception, again with no limitations A mini fridge in your room that is big enough to put things in! A ceiling fan in the room Plenty of fresh food and snacks throughout the day that are constantly being replenished Good fresh food with a selection for everyone with no restrictions should you want to take some back to your room! A really enthusiastic 'Animación' (entertainment) team The bad bits: The indoor pool isn't heated at this time of year My wife says that the Spa treatments are not as good as you would get in the UK and are double the price. I treated my wife to 'anti-ageing' caviar facial (which cost a whopping €75) She said that the atmosphere was nice and the staff were very pleasant but the facial only lasted 45 minutes and was extremely basic so a big disappointment for the hefty price tag. All in all, this stay has only brought home to my wife and I how bad other places that we have stayed have done things. We would certainly return and can't recommend this hotel enough.

We stayed here over easter for 4 nights. Wished we had stayed longer. One of the nicest friendliest hotels we ever stayed in. The entire hotel was absolutely immaculate, we never saw any rubbish. We were a group of 5 - myself and husband, mother in law and two teenagers. Rooms - immaculate. Cleaners did a great job every single day. We had two rooms one with a sofa bed. Plenty of room in both. Free fridge and safe. Glorious pool views. Food - plenty of choice and all good quality. Two options for alternative dining - a grill and an Asian restaurant, we tried both but preferred the main dining room. Drinks - plenty of options, there was nothing we wanted that we couldn’t have. Soft drinks on tap were good quality and bottled water freely available from reception. Pool - again immaculate. Comfortable loungers and towels could be changed daily. Staff - made the holiday. All so friendly and approachable from the waiters to bar staff to reception. A particular shout out to Matteo and his team - the Grease show on the last night was very entertaining. Also Valerio who was always smiling. Finally the barman with glasses who made my mother in law smile every day! Location - quite a trek to the main beach. Fine this time of year but maybe hard work in summer. Some nice local shops that sell all you need. We got a taxi to Vilamoura (18 euros each way for 5 people) nice morning out but expensive and we were glad to return to our hotel. Would we return? 100%, everyone of us. Thank you Riu for a great holiday

We went here last June to take my Mum on holiday and found it to be very good indeed. Great rooms, food, facilities, pool, entertainment and couldn't really fault anything related to the hotel. The minor issue for us was the location as it wasn't quite to our taste so we spent most of our time in and around the hotel. The local beaches were excellent for some nice walks. really enjoyed the morning fitness classes and probably enjoyed the cocktails from the pool bar in the late afternoon

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel October last year. Everything was great, food lovely, rooms nice and spacious, staff friendly... If you expect 5 star hotel - this is not one of them, but it's easily a strong 4 star one (I'm only pointing this out, as Tui that we've travelled with had 5 stars on their website, hotel however states 4). I would definitely come back there HOWEVER there is one thing, that I think hotel management should strongly consider. There is a few tables outside of main restaurant, so we had part of our meals there as it was more pleasant. A couple of times there were people sitting next to us, smoking at the table, which was a big push off when you are a non-smoker and are having your breakfast. There is a lot of space outside of restaurant area, where people could smoke, so perhaps making a rule of not allowing smoking where other people eat would be a good thing to consider?

We travelled last year, was amazing. Swim up bar is fantastic! I loved it. Staff and food are amazing. Close to town, old town is a must to go see! Beaches are unbelievable! We will go back to Portugal and 100% this hotel.

Arrived to a welcoming drink, had to wait till room was ready, didn't mind rather it be cleaned to perfection than rushed!! Food overall great! However didn't like the oriental themed restaurant (can't please everyone!) however we were still hungry so went to the buffet restaurant for a second dinner! Drinks unlimited, there are watered down but what to do expect? Everyone cannot be on there heads all day everyday. Pool was cold but rather that than heated and not been able to cool down! Activities were great, caters for all. However, one downside was that the spa was quite disrespectful, felt very uncomfortable, as the employees were laughing while treating me and my partner.

This was my first holiday in Portugal and I was with my wife, daughter and grandson. For a family holiday his hotel ticked all the boxes. The checking in was painless, the receptionist was polite and efficient. We arrived early and were told that the room wasn’t ready. We were given a couple of hours to wait, but we were all given wrist bands so that we could use the facilities and eat and drink until the room was ready. The room was modern, spacious and clean. The only downside was we were above the dining room and were woken every morning by chairs being scraped across the floor. The swimming pools were very good, a large one with a swim up bar that held all the entertainment and sports and a much quieter smaller one, which was the one we used. The only down side was that neither were heated and were cold when you first got in. The dining rooms were the same as all the other riu hotels I have stayed at. The food was of a good quality but after a time became repetitive, but there was always something you would like. The only minus about the hotel was the entertainment venue for the evenings. It opened out onto a large outside seating area with lots of sliding doors. This meant that the hot air from outside went into the venue and made it uncomfortably hot. All in all a good hotel and I would recommend it to a family looking for a reasonably priced hotel of a good standard
