Went in August with all the family - 2 grandchildren and parents We had a delay going out - not ideal -thanks Monarch! but after arriving over 4 hours late the transfer was excellent by minibus complete with child seats and the hotel helpful but only one receptionist on at 1.30 am! Rooms were great very clean and tidy very large beds! The facilities are great for children especially junior are 3 pools and good activity team The food was good and quite varied we ate twice in the grill and onlce in the Asian for a bit more variety but the buffet was fine It did get a little busy after 8.00pm though We always ate early with the grandchilden so no problems at all. Nice Kids disco at 8.30-9..0 however the "adult" entertainment was not as good as we have had - not 5 star level. ie Karaoke - "the Voice" competition etc. Beach is a good 10 min away down 100 or so steps but we managed with 2 pushchairs and baby stuff so not too bad It is a very nice clean beach -Sunbeds and umbrellas available at a cost - 15 Euro for the day so be prepared .You can of course take your own Overall we had an excellent time and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our party consisted of 2 adults and a 14 year old, 6 Aug-13 Aug 2017. Upon arrival at 10.20am we were greeted with a glass of fresh orange at reception and the excellent check in staff member really set the tone for the week. We had read a few reviews prior to going and they were mixed, however those complaining about kids noise should in my view simply book an adults only as lo and behold kids do tend to enjoy themselves on holidays, and in and around swimming pools, and long may it continue that way.I quite like peace and quiet and it was nothing that bothered me. This is only the 2nd all inclusive we have been on, the last one being 12 months ago in Minorca. Summary: free wifi available in most areas except hotel room, excellent food, wonderful staff, (Nuno and Julian stood out among bar staff), entertainment staff excellent too. Entertainment in pool area, e.g. water aerobics, water polo, dancing act, etc etc. Good location with plenty going on outside within 5 mins walk. Really good that the pool bar had TVs showing live English football meaning no need to hunt for a sports bar close by. Room was fine albeit fridge wasn't particularly cold. Very clean. Sunbeds are a bit packed together but i put that down to number of people there in peak season Vs available land. Swim up bar was lovely to sit at and have a beer. Had a TV in our room but none of us had any need at all to turn it on. Evening entertainment was generally good and a lot better than one we went to last year, one night was a solo act who was very poor but other than that pretty good. Shame they don't do branded drinks like Deserano but not the end of the world. Cab to Vilamoura was 15 Euros and about 20 mins, nightmare getting back Friday night though at just after midnight, cab took an hour due to horrendous traffic with people going to 2 massive nightclubs outside Vilamoura. A suggestion for the hotel to consider. it seems pretty unnecessary to create a small negative by limiting the free wi fi to 2 persons per room, there were only 3 of us so it seemed petty to create a negative picture for something so trivial. All in all a throughly enjoyable holiday and very grateful to the excellent staff. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.
We visited in early august and many of the reviews already posted are spot on. I would agree this feels very much a good 4 star resort rather than the platinum rating given by Thomson. Functionally there is nothing wrong with this hotel, service and quality of food and drinks are very good. The only slight issue we had is aesthetics. The rooms are nice and clean but we stayed on the road side so no view at all. The pools are OK but too cold and the layout of sunbeds (although readily available) is very cramped and unattractive due to the sheer number of people and scale of the property. Same story with the restaurants, nothing wrong with the food or choice or even getting a table it just didn't feel very nice as far too many people. So almost great and certainly there are far worse all inclusive packages out there but if you like some quaintness/attractiveness about your hotel and amenities then this is probably not the place for you. In term of trips we did Thomson/tui splash and slide and the combined family fun date (safari and river cruise) and both were excellent days out so would highly recommend.
After reading a few bad reviews I was a bit apprehensive but no need lovely week nothing is to much for customers at this hotel food was lovely plenty of choice same with drinks lovely cocktails no kettles in room but you can get one at reception if you ask the animation team worked hard and put on brilliant entertainment every evening the hotel is spotless and we even got a tour from the roof all the way to the basement where the cleaners work from behind the bars and backstage where all the costumes Tec kept fasinating and made you see how hard all the staff work and again spotlessly clean the beach we went to was accessed by 150 steps but not anywhere as bad as I feared with my bad knee we found it better than the other beach that got quiet busy if any criticism about the holiday there was a lot of children and no quiet pool but then it was august school holidays and perhaps an oversight of mine when booking but as always a brilliant riu hotel as all the others we have been
Clubhotel Riu Guarana is a wonderful hotel, with staff to match. The rooms are very clean and well maintained and the staff whether it is the cleaning staff, staff at reception or staff serving behind the bar are very friendly and very helpful. Even though we didn't rate the food that much in the beginning over time it seemed to get a lot better. We enjoyed dining in the Asian restaurant and that is a must for anyone staying at the hotel. Everyone at the hotel puts in a tremendous amount of work and effort to ensure the hotel is spotless and that you are enjoying yourself. The hotel is located close to the beech and this really is an excellent place to visit, the morning and evening walks (or runs) are breath taking. If you are a scuba diver we recommend Indigo Divers, they are located 10 minutes (drive) from the hotel, staff and very friendly and helpful and the experience was very positive. Highly recommend this hotel, especially for families.
hotel staff excellent. Special mention Carlos (waiter) and Ion (bar waiter) they are a credit to hotel. Management very active, walking around all day and evening speaking to guests, stayed in room 1020 from 11/06-22/06 did have a couple of issues and had said we would not go back but on the last day the management resolved and we were happy with the outcome. Thank you, would now definitely return. All hotel is very clean. Food is excellent you will never go hungry and there is a very good choice. while we stayed there was an issue with glass found in main pool, this was very quickly cleared by pool staff and lifeguard. One thing I will say is that in the daytime the staff were great at making sure no glass etc was taken near the pool but of an evening we saw many guests sat on sunbeds with glasses, now if they get drunk and glasses break then there is your issue. Never once saw staff advise that they needed to move as they had glasses. I believe this was happening because there was not enough outside seating for evening time. The hotel is in a lovely village and it was nice to go for a stroll in the evening, down the road you will find a lovely local bar called Pinoquios where the owner is exceptional. We only stay in Riu hotels around the world and this was our first time in Portugal and believe with a couple of minor improvements then this would become one of our favourite.
We visited this hotel in may and was given glass of orange juice on arrival check in was quick. This hotel is in quiet area and newly renovated. Rooms are lovely and clean We had a sea view/ pool view which was lovely. We travel with Thomson and was happy with the service provided. Welcome meeting was in the bar saloon and I must say was one of the best welcome meeting I been to. All the staff come on stage and introduce themselves and I felt this was the best way to get to know the staff and what they did. All staff including management were friendly. Angelo the thomson rep will mention a free local walkabout in the welcome meeting and its great if you go because he will show where the taxis, bus stop, pharmacy,Doctor, local bar, local restaurant, local shop are. He also show how to get the beach and yes there are two different beach's here one a small one and another you have to walk down 120 something step it's not that bad. You can walk along the beach and get to vilamoura if you wish but it is a long walk. Bus stop to get to albuferia/ vilamoura is a short distance away. To get to vilamoura it cost me 3.30 one way To get to albuferia it cost me 2.30 one way You can also get the free shuttle bus that takes you you to the algarve shopping centre. Ask reception for a free water bottle always gave us a bottle when we asked and we ask twice a day and there was never any issues. Plenty of sunbeds - never any issues. Food - We are vegetarian's and found the food to be good. There is something for everyone here. Pizza, chips, pasta, meat, fish, vegetables etc Everything is self service here and drink are good too. Entertainment team - work hard day and evening to provide excellent entertainment. Evening shows are top quality. We did go on thomson excursion - best of the west and loved it. You get to go to historic centre of Lagos - head to ponta de pieadade showing iconic rock formations. Finally going to sagres and cape Vincent. We also went to zoomarine which was amazing. Thanks again to Angelo for sorting this out. Thank you to all the staff for making this a great holiday for us. We went for 7 nights and would not hesitate to return to this lovely hotel.
We have just returned for 7 nights at this hotel and I would recommend it to friends and family. The hotel is set in a pleasant, safe feeling small town in a good central location for viewing the algarve. It is about 10 minutes walk from the beach. On booking we were under the impression the hotel is directly on top of the beach but this is not really the case. However do not let this detract from what is a lovely clean and safe, guarded beach in keeping with the algarve style. Hotel was very impressive, tidy and very clean, the rooms are well presented and maintained. Everything worked as expected and contrary to other reviews the aircon was effective. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful, equally the management are visible and approachable. The rooms facing outwards have the best view of the surrounding inland and any extra charge for sea facing rooms is unlikely to be worth it due to the distance from the sea. The pool is well looked after, extremely clean water and a nice size however it is too cold to just chill out in even in 30 degree heat and could do with being a few degrees hotter. There is no mad rush for sun loungers as there are plenty to go around. The other guest were generally friendly middle classes from all over Europe and the entertainment team are of a good quality despite this not really being my cup of tea I did enjoy some of the dancing and music put on which was of a good standard The drinks are of good quality the local very drinkable super bock beer is on tap. I also enjoyed the local wine, a wide range of big brand soft drinks are also on tap. The food is good but not amazing, towards the end of the holiday it became somewhat repetitive. There is always grilled meat, fish, Italian and wide range of salads etc that was of good quality, i never felt that there was nothing I liked the look off. There is normally a local stew or paella dish but found these to be bland in comparison with the real deal served across the algarve. The mostly cake based deserts were often dry and uninspiring. Overall I would describe the food as good but could be better, but far from bad and I never had a complaint about any of the food. On the whole I would recommend this hotel and am happy to call it very good. I would go back and with some very minor improvements it could be an absolutely excellent hotel.
This is a very good, well-run family hotel. The rooms are large with a good size bathroom. We travelled with Thomson/Tui and we understand their allocation of rooms is on the road side, and the balconies are in the shade. We could have changed room on request to a poolside room, but decided as it was so hot, we would prefer a cooller room. The food is good, and all the meals are buffet style as we were all-inclusive. It is possible to have a special meal in the Grill Room and the Asia restaurants. These too, are self-service and if the hotel wants to make them special, we felt they should have been served. In the Asia Restaurant, we asked for chop sticks and were given them. It would have been better if they were put out with the other cutlery, again to make the meal a little special. The swimming pool areas are very large, and there are enough chairbeds and umbrellas for everyone. There is a strict rule of no saving chairbeds, which works well. The hotel is well-located in the town, and there is enough in the town to make it interesting. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. We did two very good excursions through Tui, and our representative Mark was very helpful.
From start to finish every single bit of the holiday was superb even booked our holiday for next year there I would recommend this hotel to everyone and they will have the best time from food to beds amazing!!
