Parador De Alcala4.0 out of 5.0

Having stayed in many Parador hotels in the past and been delighted with them all, the management of this property have an enormous task ahead of them to reach the standards normally associated with Parador. That needs to start with a complete shake up of the reception team who were unwelcoming, arrogant, unhelpful and dismissive. They need to recognise that they are not there as a favour to Clients... Our room was exceptionally hot even with the air conditioning set at 19 degrees and whilst we received chocolates by our bed on the first night, along with a sort of turn down service, this seemed too big an ask for the remaining two nights. Overall very poor and if I was looking to improve this product I'd start with the management team who certainly could benefit from 'Excellence' training.
Paradores is the best choice in Alcala de Henares, it is located in the center of the town. It has a parking and excellent service and facilities. Rooms are always clean and comfortable. It has also a nice restaurant and room service but there are also many restaurants around. I have stayed there many times for business trips.
The Parador was a nice hotel but one I feel is overpriced. There was no concierge service to help with booking tours or information on surrounding area. A big minus for me is there isn't any tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Grounds and rooms were nice and clean
Great hotel, beautiful architecture. It is worth staying for at least one night. Breakfast very international and the little town of Alcalá is more than just beautiful. I would certainly stay another time there.
It is on of the best paradores that we have ever been. It is modern but at the same time you can feel the history around. Really nicely designed and incorporated into the town. SPA is small but nice with good service. It is a pity that in some places you can already seen some signs of wear so the management should focus on small repairs in order not to loose the image of the hotel.
The service was perfect the hotel was a wonderful mix between old and new the rooms were peaceful and comfortable breakfast was delicious and dinner was a great experience the city of Alcala is beautiful
I like this hotel It is quite nice environment clean and great room and furniture Also breakfast is good and too many options The location of hotel is perfect Exactly in plaza cerfantise I think i will stay in it again or next time
It is a very beautiful hotel with spacious rooms and very modern furnishings. The rooms are very private s the windows look onto private or semi-private courtyards. The food at the restaurant across the street was not as good as expected, however the staff was very friendly and the physical restaurant is very pleasant. Some seats need to be lowered so short persons like myself can reach the floor and not feel like a child.
We have used Paradores many times in the past but this is one of the new modern hotels in the chain. Very minimalist. Check in was reasonable but for the first time ever we were not offered the complimentary drinks voucher, had to return and ask for it. The room was an accessible room on the ground floor and was massive. A very well thought out layout with the hangers on sticks so you could reach them from a wheelchair - brilliant. Also lots of draw space. In the bathroom there was a shower for wheelchair users plus a shower and bath for ambulant people. The only snag was that the bath towels were over the bath which is unreachable if you are in a wheelchair. Could have done with a grab rail by the accessible shower. I used the shower rod after having checked it seemed strong enough! The w.c. and bidet were in a separate room and provided with a good set of grab rails. The sliding door was very heavy. The labelling of the various light switches provided hours of fun as they bear little resemblance to what they actually control. Breakfasts were brilliant and the staff very helpful. A really good hot and cold buffet. We did not eat in the dining room but did have some excellent snacks in the bar area. The pool was closed but we explored and discovered that there is a massive roof garden up on top of the hotel. Not mentioned in the room literature at all. From the video footage it is normally approached from the pool area. There Is a lift down from the level 2 entrance for wheelchair but we didn't seek out the key. We had a very late flight from Madrid airport on the last day and asked the women who checked us in if we could have a late check out she hit a few keys and told us the hotel was full. We went onto the parador app and found they were still selling rooms so approached a more senior member of staff the next day and got a late check out foc for which we were most grateful. Apart from the sloppy front of house person other staff were most helpful and went out of their way to assist me. Worth checking some of the fire exits as the corridors on the ground floor are very serpentine. Nice to know where they are and also where they come out that may surprise you. The signs on the ceilings in the corridors seem designed to take you the longest way round. e.g. If you want the spa, my wife says it was brilliant, head to reception and then take that lift to level 2 and go to the far end of the building over the dining room - easy. Only bad point and dangerous is that the fire doors from the accessible room are split 50/50 and you can just get a wheelchair though. No chance to reach the upper "bolt" as the doors are so high. All the other fire doors are split 60/40. Come on get your act together it could be a matter of life or death. Other than that a brilliant hotel in a lovely location in the middle of the town and there is an awful lot to see.
This facility could double as an art gallery. It boasts large open spaces in an ultramodern atmosphere. Old and new have been blended to create a unique atmosphere. The layout is a maze-like configuration which can be quite confusing, to say the least! Our room was spacious with all the most modern of gadgets. It was quite hilarious to learn how to simply turn the lights on and off. The colour palate was very austere and needed some warm touches. The wood trim was lovely but very dusty. Throughout the hotel the wood needs care, a good waxing would help bring out the true beauty of the fine wood details. The architect should be complimented on his project and now the care of his work should be nurtured!
