We were greeted with a sewer smell when we arrived. Not pleasant! Rooms were very large and appeared newly renovated. Nicely located, within walking distance to all the sites. Reserved parking available. Breakfast was the most disappointing of our four days of traveling.
A very welcoming hotel in this attractive town with private car parking so your car is safe, lovely rooms and we had one of the upper rooms but did not think the small windows were a problem at all. We had a large ensuite bathroom which was beautifully appointed and the staff were excellent, well visit again.
Stayed there for one night and firstly the hotel itself looks nice but the moment you step in you will get a very bad smell of sewage hitting you, also the service is good but seem to be fake, the heater was not working in the entire hotel, the rooms are refurbished but not in a good way (Cheap carpet on the floor, the bathroom is very basic, and the comfort of the bed and linen is not up to standards). If you are planning to have a good night sleep, please book elsewhere as you will not be able to sleep, you can hear anyone walking in the corridors and above your head as it is not isolated. It is really not a good value for money. Just the location is great as it is close to everything.
I've stayed in several Best Western hotels in UK and they've been ok, but nothing special. This hotel was, however. We were driving from Calais to Lake Garda and chose Bourg for an overnight stop. The hotel is an imposing building, with a grand entrance and staircase, set on a quiet and leafy square in the middle of Bourg. We found it easy to park directly outside and received a friendly and efficient welcome. We'd asked for a quiet room and were given one at the back of the hotel which had a small balcony and everything one could want, including (for a French hotel) decent pillows! We ate at the restaurant in the hotel, which was good but quite expensive, but chose not to have breakfast as this seemed to be overpriced.
I stay since 10 years 2-4 times /year in Best Western Hotel le France in Bourg-en-Bresse. The hotel has been renovated during the last 10 years. It has some big nice double rooms with the windows facing Place Bernard, the fountain and the church tower will bells. There is a nice restaurant in the same building and there are also the Brasserie du Theatre and a few other restaurants a 5-10 minutes walk away. Aircondition and a small refrigerater for bottles were in the rooms I have slept in. Ask for a indoor parking if you need it, before you arrive it,s 10 euros. Otherwise there is a public paying parking outside the hotel. You may hear people walking in the corridors and you can hear noise from the rooms beside yours. The church bells and the fountain makes sounds in the daytime.
Had to extend my stay from 1 to 5 nights for health reasons. The staff was very nice, could not have been more helpful. The room at the back was basic but quiet and clean. Parking in the hotel is limited, but outside is very easy except on market days when the whole square turns into a souk. Very good breakfast. Good restaurant in the hotel
Once we found the hotel (due to major roadworks in the town center and many diversions) it was as expected. Secure parking for the bikes but despite requesting twin beds one room had a large double, no twins available so the receptionist offered to put an additional bed in the same room. No problem. Good breakfast, restaurant looked OK but a bit pricey so we explored the town centre, no bar as such but a few within an easy walk.
Beautiful classic hotel with lovely rooms in nice French provincial city. Except for the room doors and hallways, all seems original. Simply gorgeous. Stayed here a few times now. Not very suitable for smokers, as even de the window seals have no-smoking signs ... on the outside! Restaurant very good, but a little over-priced. Nevertheless,it suits the hotel.
This Hotel has the fairly unusual policy of pre-authorising your card on arrival for double the room cost, giving the minibar as an excuse, (even though in fact I did not have one in my room). They will then issue a closure ticket on departure, and charge you seperately for your bill. However in my case the 150 euro pre-auto stayed on my account for two and a half weeks after I left, which is obviously not ideal. Whilst I accept they may require a deposit, I recommend that anyone staying here proposes a forward payment for the room (more normal these days) and a cash deposit (cash machine 50m away) which apparently they will accept unless you want to risk the same issues. I brought up this to the Hotel receptionist on a return visit to Bourg en Bresse ten days later, only to be told it must be my fault or my bank's fault.. (which it is not I checked with my bank and Visa in the UK) I tried, but an unsatisfactory resolution results in my mentioning it here.. Now for the good news, I like this Hotel. I believe to get the best value it would be worth upgrading to the superior rooms as the smaller ones on the third floor and at the rear might not be up to expectations. My room was very pleasant overlooking the quietish parking area at the front. I particularly liked the fact I could lie in a foam bath whilst watching BBC world, a possible one off quirk of my room layout.. There is a small garage with good height for larger vehicles ie SUV's, and the Hotel is in the best location in town. Parking is quite busy so probably best to reserve a place. I did not use the restaurant, although it looks lovely, prefering to try the top tripadvisor Brasserie in town this time, which I thoroughly recommend. Look forward to returning to this good hotel, will just keep my card in my pocket next time..
We had an impromptu stop here as our travel plans were delayed. This hotel is a lovely very French imposing building on the main town square. Inside there is a beautifully tiled floor. Room was very spacious, spotlessly clean with a decent shower (albeit over the bath) and a very comfortable big bed. Staff were polite and helpful - the receptionist was particularly good as it was late when we landed. The whole stopover was so much better than the cheap motels that are the alternative! The town is pleasant with a market and excellent bakers serving good coffee just over the way.
