The ambassadors hotel is not 5 star accommodation and doesn't pretend to be. If you are after budget accommodation requiring a bed and a shower and don't intend to be in your room all day, the ambassadors hotel will fit the purpose. Clean sheets, shower and minor room amenities. The building is extremely old, so too are the rooms so don't expect much, but the place has an old world charm which we warmed to during our stay. Great staff, cold beer, cute beer garden and right accross from the tram.
They charge a $100 deposit when you check in and they should be the ones paying guests $100 to stay there. Receptionist was friendly and the building has potential, however "flea pit" is what came to my mind. It was a cheap deal but I have stayed in country hotels that were the same price, cleaner and better for ones health! The bed was comfortable and sheets clean! The smell of cigarette smoke wafts through the hallways, carpets are filthy as is the tea and coffee setting on top of the fridge, shower was hot and plenty of water but filthy shower curtain and paint peeling off the shower walls and mould growing happily around the edges. If I hadn't been so tired and it being so late in the day, I would have walked out and tried to find something else. Breakfast: stale bread that fell apart when I went to take a slice out of the packet! It is what it is, but the housekeeping department could pay a lot more attention to detail when cleaning. One does get what one pays for unfortunately,if one is on a budget then I think there are cleaner budget places to stay in Adelaide.
A short stay in a vintage style hotel, breakfast included although the only hot items were tea coffee etc and /or toast. Mostly cereals and some fresh fruit. The breakfast was adequate and the lady operating the venue was kind enough to start a little earlier to enable me to enjoy breakfast and not compromise an early departure. The accommodation, gained at a special price, was okay for a two night stay. The room and facilities were not quite the same as pictured on their website. The bed was, as so often the case, two large singles joined together to make a king double, the mattress seemed a little beyond its use by date, so a little soft but sleep did come eventually. The curtains of light material were held closed with a clothes peg! Arrived on Saturday afternoon and there were many noisy gatherings nearby til around 1am. The property is adjacent to popular bars, which if you want to go for a drink etc is a good thing! The bathroom was clean nothing fancy with good pressure and heat in the shower. The basin and walls though were showing signs of desperation for the need of renovating, Paint peeling off the tiles where a quick spruce up had taken place some years earlier. The usual bargain basement coffee and teas provided and a very quick kettle. If you prefer fresh milk rather than the little uht capsules then you need to buy some, shops are very close!!No sneezing from dust allergies, so the room I must say was clean, but,not five star clean. The elevator in this hotel is known by many locals. It must be from the 1920s, an amazing ride. There are stairs if you prefer a bit of exercise and you will know you are using them as most of the occupant will due to the loud creaking this includes the flooring, so persons moving about are quite clearly heard. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and are on hand 24/7. The main entrance is locked by 3 am most mornings until 5am, but, if you are out partying ring the doorbell and staff will let you in. TV (digital) is in the room but the signal often becomes interrupted. Doesn't matter, you are on holiday so get out and enjoy Adelaide. This is a budget hotel and to expect 5 star amenities would be foolhardy, definately 3 stars and you can feel secure in your surroundings. I would stay here again, on my own as I did last time.
The bathtub had a rust stain down to plug hole, bathroom walls were filthy and wall in bedroom appeared to have water damage with plaster and paint peeling off. The hotel appeared to not have anything don't since built. By the looks in the 1920/30s with the lift doors having to be opened and shut one after the other by hand.
Acceptable for the price if all you want is a bed and shower for a night. This is an old style building that is very run down. With a bit of effort and a lot of money it could be uplifted to a great hotel. The rooms are a good size and generally clean but very run down. The air conditioning is just a unit stuck in the window and is very noisy. Location is good as can be in the middle of Adelaide.
Took about 20 mins for my wife and I to find some one in the hotel who could check us in, we had to wonder around until we found someone...it was only mid-afternoon. Room was small and dirty, had no toilet paper when we arrived, the air conditioning was incredibly noisy to the point you couldnt sleep with it on...not great in the summer Very old Elevator stopped working. No one was around for us to check out paid a security deposit on check-in and was told it would go straight back onto my credit card when i checked out, this was not the case. I contacted the hotel a couple of months later asking them to reimburse me, they said it was a problem with my bank and not them. They then did not reply at all to my messages...had to raise a case with my bank to refund the payment. Pathetic, would not stay here again, even though it is in a great location
booked as part of a theatre deal , well room was small to say and in the basement along with the painters touching up the paint work. the on suite if you not skinny you wont be able to turn round in there , the shower need a good clean along with the taps. the room was adjoining the linen cupboard and we had to keep the curtain drawn or sit and look at towels etc . Breakfast less than average and staff on duty there looked as miserable as sin. first and will be the only trip to this hotel !!
Horrible! Room was filthy. Couldn't sleep aircon was noisy. Booked for 4 nights, stayed only for a night. We moved to another hotel. Its worth paying cancellation fee than staying for another 3 nights. Kudos to reception staff. She was pleasant.
Booked by booking.com, the details/ photos were totally misleading Took 10 mins to open the room door, no elevator. Totally full of fungus, carpet was old, stained, bathroom tiles were off. Old bed sheets, asked for a refund , didn't get any, left the hotel in 2 minutes. I can't believe this is Adelaide
Looking for a quite dinner out. I found myself at the Garden Bar of this hotel. Ambiance of this English 1900 style bar was charming with a fire place (in lit ) and dark wood paneling. The entertainment was a young Sporano vocalist singing well in a Kareoke style. She was complimentary to the atmosphere of the Bar. On the Bar menu I ordered Garlic Prawns. The dish was very nice except served 30 mins after order time and at tepid temp. 😨 The excuse was they 'couldnt ID who ordered' because the Bar member/ shift manager was in a break 😣 POINT: regardless, you never serve your food COLD. 5x🚫 This was the only dissapointing Mark in the whole 3 hours.
