Great location only 5 minute walk to the beach, staff very helpful and friendly, Cosy lounge bar with very good food.i would recommend this hotel as a very good base if your traveling around this area.
Our group played golf at Cruden Bay and the Kilmarnock Arms appeared to be the best place to stay. What a fabulous place! The staff was beyond welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious--both dinner and breakfast. The roaring fire in the reception area takes the chill off the day and offered a special place to try a few whiskeys from an EXTENSIVE list. The room was clean, warm and offered modern bathroom amenities.
Inside the Kilmarnock Arms Hotel you'll find two restaurants.... we had dinner in the Bistro (not the pub). Our food was outstanding. Both had soups, each delicious and piping hot. Braised beef short rib for our main was superb, and a generous portion as well. Cheese plate for dessert (all locally sourced) with a ruby port to top it off. We highly appreciated the staff's very considerate care concerning my wife's shellfish allergy. We'll be back!
Visited on a Sunday evening, was shown to a small table in an empty lounge with all the tables with reserved signs on them- but no customers. The decor is a real mish mash and very tired. There appeared to be no leadership and the hotel's policy of employing young staff, led to inexperienced and uninterested staff leaving customers waiting to be served at tables and bars. A particular member of staff pointed at the beer taps at the bar when I asked what type of draft cider did they serve. I asked for a gluten free menu and was told that she would find a list of what I could have. This resulted in the waiteress pointing to a few things on the menu and telling me they will change somethings to make it gluten free. When I asked about a couple dishes that possibily didn't have any gluten containing ingredients, the young lady was less than convincing about her knowledge of the menu and it's ingredients. Eventually we ordered 2 mains (chicken & beef) and they were very good quality. My main wasn't as described as what was on the menu, however I had been told there would be changes, the waiteress just couldn't be bothered to explain the changes. As the empty plates lay, we should have been considering a sweet and perhaps a coffee, however we left due to the lack of attention, atmosphere and ambience. It's a real shame that the kitchen can deliver quality food but nothing else is up to scratch.
Had a beautiful 1st class quality meal at the Kilmarnock arms with the family. Never fails to disappoint. lovely surroundings and great staff. Would certainly return and recommend. Thanks again Martin, Lucy and staff for providing such a great service..
Excellent small hotel. staff very friendly and helpful (nothing a problem), Would strongly recommend staying here. very nice food and local beach just a sort walk away from hotel over a wooden bridge, well worth the walk.
Lunch didn't start well...when we arrived at 1:55pm we were told we couldn't have lunch as the kitchen closes at 2pm! The rather surly member of staff then checked with the chef and disappeared...to be replaced by a friendly member of staff who was very happy to serve us! We had a good quality meal including monkfish, chicken curry and breaded chicken. It was well presented, and tasty, if a little pricey for bar food. £52 for three of us with just one drink, along with tap water seems high. However the hotel is close to a wonderful beach and Slains Castle (of Dracula fame) and the village is well worth a visit.
The hotel staff is lovely - helpful, kind and very friendly. However, if you're staying at the hotel DO NOT stay in Room #1. It is located over the kitchen so you'll smell exhaust from the kitchen the entire time (fried food smell) and it's super hot. There is a fan in the room but there is absolutely no air circulation but for the fan. We opened the window but given the room is an interior room and the kitchen is venting into that space it does nothing except to let in hot and smelly air. We asked for a room change but the hotel is full and most of the guests are staying for more than one night...we are not. However, hotel is charming, room is very clean and staff is very nice. We'd come again but would be very particular about our room.
I've been meaning to do this since my last visit but after another very good meal and service tonight they deserve a very positive review. The food selection and quality here is excellent and I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Really good location for the nearby world famous golf course too
We enjoyed a delightful meal. Very good gluten free option-no fuss! Generous portions. Very good friendly service. Will return! Local haddock was delicious burger and chips excellent. Verge panini went down very well. Gluten free batter on fish great per my daughter!
