Was the only choice in town for us ! The reception staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendlier ! My surname is Skene & they didn't bat an eyelid ! I wish I owned the place though ? Our apartment was top floor so the stairs were a pain but the result more then made up for it. Full lounge, kitchen, bathroom & separate bedroom, absolute luxury, quiet & comfortable. The breakfast was first class as well and the nice touch of an Honour Bar with a free drink each was old world class & charm ! Could not speak more highly of the stay and just wished it was longer ! Maybe next time ??
Stayed here for the weekend as we like to have the option of making our own meals while we're away. Found it easily but really struggled to find the car park! It would be useful to be able to download a map from the website, but sent my fiance it to pick one up from reception. With the map the car park was easy to find, and because it was away from the main road I felt comfortable leaving it parked there all weekend. The gentleman at reception was incredibly helpful, made sure we knew where we were going and explained everything fully. He also told us that we were entitled to one free drink from the self serve bar, which was a nice surprise. We've stayed at several apartment-style hotels and usually expect a single room with a kitchen at one end and a bed at the other, so it was great to find out this had four separate rooms, it felt like a proper little house! It had everything you could possibly need, including a freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. As we were only there for the weekend we didn't need to use these, but it was nice to have the option. Everything was very clean and well looked after, decor wasn't ultra-modern but it made it feel much more homely. Location was fantastic, only 5 minutes walk from the very centre of the city, but once you were inside you would never have known, very quiet and peaceful. We both said it was a shame we couldn't stay longer, we would definitely stay again.
Myself and 3 friends stayed at skene house holburn for one night in a 2 bed apartment. This was actually our 4th visit to skene house and I felt I must write a review this time as it was excellent as always. There is a few flights of stairs to climb to most of the apartments which may not suit everyone, but was no problem to us. The apartment itself had absolutely everything you could need! It was spotless, so well equipped, kitchen has everything even fresh milk for tea and coffee which was a small detail that we really appreciated. The apartment is quiet even though it overlooks union street. It is so central most of the bars and restaurants are only a short walk away. The reception staff were so friendly and helpful, we asked for a late check out at 12, which they were able to give us which was great after a night out in the city. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it, far better than other apartments available in the city centre. You also get a drink included from the courtesy bar at reception this was a great touch we loved it. Thank you for a fantastic stay.
This city centre apartment was large, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely. They have ample gated parking. I only stayed for 1 night, but this would be comfortable for a much longer stay.
We like the Skene House suites and return on most visits to Aberdeen. This visit was booked on the phone and it appeared that our preferences from previous visits had not been referred to in the booking process. We usually request a suite on the ground or first floor to limit the stairs to be climbed and we usually request a suite with a separate kitchen. When we arrived, we had been allocated a suite on the top floor but we asked for something lower down. We were then offered a suite which had the kitchen and bathroom on the floor below the rest of the accommodation, not suitable for nightime toilet visits. Next we were offered a suite with 2 bedrooms but it had a very small kitchen area off the lounge. Eventually we accepted a suite on the first floor which was ideal. Throughout this process the staff were excellent and did their utmost to get us settled in a suite which suited us. We had a very enjoyable stay once again. Having your own suite with lounge, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom gives total freedom to do as you please. My only reservations about Skene House Holburn is the access lane to the private car park which is narrow and has speed bumps all the way along. This has nothing to do with Skene House however as it is a public road. On this visit we had some issues with the cooked breakfasts. Food is cooked and placed in a heated container and guests help themselves to what they want. The plates are cold and the food was not kept very warm in these heated units (bain marie?). The kitchen staff are very accommodating however and will cook fresh items if asked. This may cause a problem however if a large number of guests ask for freshly cooked food at the same time. There is a large choice of items from the buffet if you don't want to try the lukewarm offerings. None of this would stop me from using Skene House in future. I have recommended Skene House to many friends and family members.
I have stayed at all three Skene facilities over the years and whilst they all have strengths this one at Holburn has emerged as my favourite. Very friendly and helpful staff great facilities and a brilliant location for access to the city and all its attractions. Breakfast is sufficient buffet style without being extravagant, only major factor for me is the stairs, as has been noted by others it's quite a climb if you get a top floor suite. Concierge available for baggage, if only he could have carried me up and down. At 60 after one of two times it becomes a challenge! Yes I would go back and ask for a ground or 1st floor apartment
Have stayed at Skene Whitehall many times over the last 4 years, also Rosemount. Skene Holburn the best by some measure. Decor OK inn other two, but Holburn fresher and far superior. Very similar set up but no contest!
This is my second attempt . Converted tenement building. No lift which we knew but did not know it was 4 long flights and that we were on the top. This was very hard work with an 80 year who had to sit on the stairs every now and again. Even the young people would not visit again .Scarey stairwell [Old tenement style] Would not trust children out on their own. Flats nice and clean but fridge on and off and leaking. Offered to put stuff in another fridge until we moved next day as we needed to stay a bit longer. New flat 2 down that was a bit of a help. However heating not working heaters put in . Gas company came next day.Guy said old boiler.Grand daughter hag gone to reception to collect new key and save us the journey.Would not give her the key until we had paid for breakfast in last flat even though they had credit card details and had added new flat 16 year old dug out her not very flush card and paid.Wehad the inconvenience of going to the bank to put the amount back for her. We will be watching carefully to see that it is not on our credit card as well.We heard about concierge but had no help when we arrived to a top floor.Breakfast was poor and we cancelled after 2 days as my husband at only 8 o'clock was left with one sausage a bit of bacon and some beans at the so called hot buffet. Eat in the place right opposite good deal.Told we should have said. ERR hang on there this your job and no we should not have to ask.Just poor service. We would not go back free and expect better in 2017.Staff poor.
Booked this online - last minute, needed somewhere to stay while visiting Aberdeen to see son at uni. This apartment hotel provided a comfortable, well equipped, reasonably priced flat for me, my husband, teenage son and the dog. Fresh milk, real coffee, lovely shower gel, great beds, car parking, it met our every need without costing a fortune. Great staff. A real find.
We do love the tenement style of aparthotel that Skene House do so well far superior to the tenement I was dragged up in decades ago, plus this one is opposite the Kirk where I was a sixer in the cubs, in the 50s. Free parking, bus stops all round, fully equipped with washing machine etc and you’re in the city centre. Friendly staff and they gave us a ground floor flat, on request.
