Las Vegas Gay and Lesbian Vacations

Your gay Las Vegas vacation
Neon-lit, over-the-top Vegas is easily one of the most popular gay and lesbian travel getaways in the world. Despite the lack of a huge queer-specific infrastructure, the town is as gay as it comes, by its very nature. Tight-clad gymnasts are beautifully featured in every Cirque du Soleil show in town, feathered showgirls high-kick their heels, and the whole place feels like a cartoon of fabulousness – with Celine Dion and Cher ruling over the city's landscape.

Las Vegas highlights
-
The Sin City gayborhood
Vegas has no bona fide gay 'hood, although the "Fruit Loop" between Paradise and Swenson has a number of LGBT establishments. Although both travelers and locals lament at the lack of a huge LGBT scene in Vegas, the city is home to Krave, one of the largest gay dance clubs in the US.
LGBT events
Gay Las Vegas travel isn't complete without a stop at the parade. The city's pride event is in September, and the Big Horn gay rodeo in May, as well as gay pool parties held at mainstream resorts year-round.
Classic Vegas
There are so many shows and attractions and rides and restaurants in Vegas -- most of them centered on the Strip -- it would take a lifetime to see them all. The rejuvenated downtown Vegas is now alive with a pedestrian mall and the Fremont Street Experience.
Around the desert oasis
Drag yourself away from the casinos! The surrounding area offers some excellent outdoor opportunities, including hiking in Red Rock Canyon or the Valley of Fire State Park, kayaking at Lake Mead, gasping at the monumental Boulder Dam, or even skiing at nearby Mount Charleston.
Insider tips for Las Vegas gay travel
-
Avoid traffic -- don't drive
If you're staying on the Strip, which a majority of travelers do, you don't really need a car -- and traffic here can be bumper to bumper even at midnight! The Strip has an easy-to-use monorail system, and just walking along the larger-than-life boulevard is an experience in itself.
Tie the knot
Vegas makes for the classic quickie wedding destination. A number of smaller, campy chapels on the northern part of the Strip will perform same-sex ceremonies, as well as some of the larger Strip hotels.
Dress for the weather
Although everyone laments the summer heat (which is never that awful since most of tourist Vegas is experienced indoors), wintertime can be downright chilly in Sin City. Hotels close their outdoor pools, and it's been known to snow on the Strip! Be sure to pack a jacket if you're not going in summertime.
