Miami Gay and Lesbian Vacations

Your gay Miami vacation

Miami—rap stars, muscle beach dudes, gorgeous Latinas, Art Deco hotels, streams of European tourists, all under the swaying palm trees—is nothing less than one of the world’s great metropolitan scenes. Ocean Drive, the drag that fronts the sand in South Beach, is brimming with trendy outdoor cafes where posh cars roll on by. Sculpted gay bodies adorn the beach at 12th Street and Ocean in the latest swimwear. Gays are such an integral part of the scene you couldn’t imagine Miami without them—and Orbitz will get you there.

Why book on Orbitz?

  • Miss Richfield 1981 says it best in this video—not all travel sites are created equal. When you book on Orbitz, your travel dollars work harder. Here’s why:

    • We’re the ONLY leading travel agency with a perfect Corporate Equality Index Score from the Human Rights Campaign, with two GLAAD Media awards to boot.
    • We’re the ONLY leading travel site with filters for hotel reviews by other LGBT travelers.
    • We feature the top gay-friendly accommodations, including Best in Stay hotels and gay resorts.
    • We’re proud sponsors of many LGBT charities and events, year after year.
  • Miami gayborhoods

South Beach was once gayer than it is today, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find a lot LGBTers at the 12th Street beach and Haulover, Miami’s official nude beach. Downtown Miami, formerly a boring business district, is now home to luxury hotels and condos, as well as huge nightclubs, many of which have gay nights. The artsy Design District north of downtown is an area where gays have gentrified.

    Seeing the sights

Visit the grand Vizcaya Museum and Gardens (the past host of Thanksgiving’s gay circuit White Party) in north Coconut Grove; the Miami-Dade Cultural Center and eclectic Miami Art Museum; and the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum with its energetic collection of everything from propaganda posters to Art Nouveau furniture.

    LGBT Events

Miami hosts a slew of worthwhile gay and lesbian events, including the Winter Party in March, a LGBT film fest in late April, the hot lesbian Aqua Girl party in May, and the gay men of color party, Sizzle, a five-day event over Memorial Day weekend.

  • Throw in a cruise

The Port of Miami is the world’s busiest cruise-ship port, and many LGBT cruises leave from here to the Caribbean. If you want to experience both Miami and beyond, this is a great way to do it.

    Consider going in summer

Sure, Miami can be humid and possibly rainy in summer, but hotel prices are down, the crowds smaller, and you’ll feel much more like a local. And temperatures between winter and summer are not as different as in other parts of the U.S.

    Rent a scooter

If you’re staying in South Beach, rent a scooter to enjoy Miami’s great weather. Parking a car is a pain in South Beach, and you really won’t need one unless you plan to spend time off the island of Miami Beach.
