When it comes to green travel smarts, consider booking an eco-friendly hotel. From solar powered energy to water-saving devices, hotels across the globe are doing their part to be environmentally sound and support ecotourism. Many properties use natural energy sources, embrace sustainable tourism practices, or purchase only environmentally-friendly products, such as green detergents for linens and soaps.
The Orbitz staff and its global team of hotel market managers have started the process of researching hotels with eco-friendly policies. Each property must complete at least one of the following:
Use a natural source of energy (i.e. wind, water, solar, bio-fuel)
Support an environmental organization with each hotel reservation
Use environmentally-friendly and safe products (i.e. detergents for linens, soaps, shampoos, etc.)
Use energy conserving devices (i.e. eco-friendly light fixtures/bulbs triggered by motion detectors, water-saving devices, water filtration systems and air filtration/purifiers)
Earned the ENERGY STAR®.
