Aspen Vacations
Your Aspen vacation
The perfect winter escape is difficult to describe. With four distinctively different mountains, there is, quite literally, a lot of territory to cover. Add to that the excitement of the X Games, the kind of nightlife that has the potential to make you miss first chair and the kind of powder to make you get up for it anyway, and what you have is a destination beyond definition. The best that we can do is give you a glimpse of everything Aspen/Snowmass is and does - and invite you to come live it.

Best Time to Go
Aspen has a mild climate all year with summer beginning in July and bringing warmer temperatures. This is a great time for Aspen travel, but pack a light sweater since evening temperatures tend to be cool even on the hottest days. Winter is cold and snowy, with December, January, and February being the coldest. However, it is the most popular season for those who plan to ski. You will want to include Winterskol, the annual toast to winter in your plans if you come during that time. Autumn and spring are perfect times for Aspen vacations for a quiet visit.

Though founded as a silver mining camp in 1879, Aspen rebranded itself as a ski resort after World War II. Today it has some of the most expensive real estate in the United States and is an upscale playground for the rich and famous, making it difficult for visitors to leave without at least one celebrity sighting. Still, it’s a great getaway for those looking for family fun, mountain adventures and an escape into nature. Named after the region’s ubiquitous Aspen tree, the town is situated in the Rocky Mountains at the base of three peaks with several others nearby, including Snowmass, making it equally popular for mountain biking and hiking in summer, foliage viewing in fall and, of course, skiing and other snow-related activities in winter. Aspen doesn’t lack for luxury accommodations or gourmet restaurants, but there are affordable options as well. A not-to-be-missed treat for adults and children alike is a horse-drawn sleigh ride out to the Pine Creek Cookhouse. Those with seemingly unlimited funds can spend it all at high-end boutiques; others will be thrilled with the bargains found at multiple consignment shops. Discover Aspen’s history, Victorian architecture and cultural landmarks on a tour led by the Aspen Historical Society. Book early if visiting in summer, when the population of 6,000 nearly doubles for the Aspen Food & Wine Classic as well as for Aspen’s annual music, film and arts festivals. An intellectual mecca, too, the city is home to the renowned Aspen Institute, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and the Ideas Festival.
