Puebla Vacations
Your Puebla vacation
Legend has it that the angels built Puebla. However, the truth is that it was one of the first instances of Spanish urban planning based on the rectangular grid, a design used extensively during the colonization of the Americas. Over its first hundred years of existence, the settlement in the Cuextlaxcoapan Valley rose to become a major colonial city. There are several magnificent churches and other buildings from this early period that were once site for important events revolving around Mexico's history and are still an essential part of Puebla's charming downtown area.
As Puebla expands, the tremendous influx of new residents, along with the thousands of tourists visiting year after year, fill its streets with a vibrant big-city feel, but they have not affected the provincial atmosphere that stills reigns in places such as Los Portales, the downtown arches where inviting cafes and restaurants provide strollers a time to rest and have a drink, listen to some live music or simple engage in people watching.
Puebla, the flavor of the past.
Puebla has many cultural places to offer to its visitors. Magnificent archaeological sites such as Cholula, which has the largest pyramid in all of Mesoamerica (presently covered by a church); Cantona, considered to be one of the largest and most urbanized cities in pre-Hispanic Mexico with 12 ball courts (in just 10% of the discovered area, with one of the courts specifically made for children) and Yohualichan in Cuetzalan are just some these amazing sites.
One cannot leave out the beautiful colonial buildings found in Puebla's historic downtown area, that were named a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO with over 2,600 buildings marked as invaluable. A festival-packed calendar, delicious traditional cuisine and fine handcrafts make clear the centuries of culture that flourished in this region.
Puebla, the flavor of nature.
When you really need to get away from it all, retiring to the realms of nature can be just the thing. Puebla has many places where you can pitch a tent and sit and ponder for hours, accompanied only by a fishing rod and exerting yourself no more than to simply stretch out and worship the sun god. Suggested places? Metepec in Atlixco where you can see splendorous views of the sacred mountain Popocatepetl or La Hacienda de Chautla, just to name a few.
As you can see, Puebla is a unique choice for tourists interested in multi-destination trips. Its location makes Puebla a perfect choice to visit lovely nearby cultural cities such as Mexico City, Morelos, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala. These destinations offer a fascinating journey through various sites organized around the central theme of culture.
With such a tempting invitation, no one can resist the mesmerizing attractions of this state. It goes without saying that Puebla is the flavor of Mexico!
